The Monday night matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams is set to be a hotly contested game with huge implications for the NFC West standings. Despite their slight lead, the Rams are far from a lock to run away with the division, and depending on the outcomes of games played on Sunday, could need a win to stay in first place.

We chatted with Niners Wire editor Kyle Madson this week and asked for his assessment of San Francisco’s season at this juncture. Here are the answers he gave us:

49ers agree to 5-year deal with FB Kyle Juszczyk

The first significant free agent domino fell for San Francisco on Sunday when fullback Kyle Juszczyk agreed to a five-year, $27 million deal to stay with the 49ers.
Last season Juszczyk posted a career-high six total touchdowns, including four receiving scores to tie a career best, and two rushing touchdowns to set a new career high.
In all with the 49ers he’s hauled in 102 receptions for 1,080 yards and seven touchdowns, and rushed 35 times for 132 yards and a pair of touchdowns
