Rutgers football: Nikolai Bujnowski enters the transfer portal

Nikolai Bujnowski has entered the transfer portal after committing to Rutgers football in April.

After joining Rutgers football in early April, Nikolai Bujnowski announced over the weekend that he will not be joining the program.

In January, Bujnowski entered the transfer portal after two seasons at Virginia Tech. Bujnowski played for Paramus Catholic and then joined the Hokies as a Preferred Walk On (PWO) as part of their 2020 recruiting class.

He spent a total of two seasons with Virginia Tech. As a freshman, he took a redshirt and then during his second season he was a member of the scout team.

On Sunday, he took to social media to post a message. The simple yet thoughtful message was an appropriate way to signal the re-opening of his recruitment:

Coming out of the portal in April, Bujnowski told Rutgers Wire that Boise State and Pittsburgh were also showing interest.

Nikolai Bujnowski on Rutgers football commitment: ‘Being able to represent New Jersey for me is huge’

Coming out of the transfer portal from Virginia Tech, Nikolai Bujnowski breaks down why he chose Rutgers football.

Nikolai Bujnowski committed to Rutgers football on Saturday afternoon as the Scarlet Knights add another offensive lineman to a unit that has upgraded its overall talent the past couple of recruiting cycles.

In late January, Bujnowski announced that he was leaving Virginia Tech after two seasons at Blacksburg. The former standout offensive lineman at Paramus Catholic, he joined the Hokies as a Preferred Walk On (PWO) and part of their 202 recruiting class.

He spent two years with Virginia Tech, taking a redshirt his first season and then participating as part of the scout team his second season with the ACC program.

Now Bujnowski returns to New Jersey with the chance to make an impact at Rutgers.

“I chose Rutgers for many different reasons. First reason was I loved the coaching staff. (Coach) Schiano is someone who I can tell cares about his players and everyone was so genuine,” Bujnowski told Rutgers Wire on Saturday night.

“Rutgers is also close to home which is always a plus to be able to see family when I have some time off. I did not visit any other schools physically but many coaches reached out.”

Boise State and Pittsburgh were programs that had reached out Bujnowski as well after he entered the transfer portal.

A return to New Jersey was important for the center, giving him a chance to now represent his home state.

“Being able to represent New Jersey for me is huge. Growing up a Jersey kid, there’s always a chip on your shoulder and the nature of how competitive it is what makes football so exciting for me,” Bujnowski said.

“To be able to compete at the highest level of college football while repping New Jersey is something that I will always hold close to my heart.”

Transfer portal: Nikolai Bujnowski commits to Rutgers football

Rutgers football lands a commitment from Nikolai Bujnowski.

Rutgers football got a commit out of the transfer portal on Saturday with center Nikolai Bujnowski joining the program.

Bujnowski had committed to Virginia Tech as a Preferred Walk On (PWO) as part of the 2020 recruiting class. From New Jersey, he played his high school football at Paramus Catholic.

He was a redshirt as a freshman and did not see any action in 2022 as a sophomore. In late January, Bujnowksi entered the transfer portal.

He was listed by Virginia Tech as 6-foot-1 and 310 pounds.

According to 247Sports, at Paramus Catholic, he was being recruited by Harvard, Penn State, Rutgers and Yale.

On Saturday afternoon, he posted about his decision to join Rutgers.

The addition of Bujnowski is a nice lift for the offensive line as the unit continues to go through its own rebuilding effort under new positional coach Pat Flaherty.

Bujnowksi now becomes the second addition to the offense for Rutgers football out of the transfer portal. Talented wide receiver Nysiem Brantley committed to the Scarlet Knights in January.
