Los Angeles Rams at Arizona Game Preview

Why Los Angeles Rams Will Win

Enough is enough. It’s time to get this offense ramped up again.

It’s not like it’s been bad – it’s still fifth in the NFL in total yards – but it hasn’t been consistent enough on the ground and the passing attack hasn’t been as smooth as it should be.

Yeah, the Rams were great last week … against Jacksonville. They were great a few weeks ago … against Houston.

They haven’t been able to go off against the good teams, and that includes the 37-20 loss to Arizona in Week 4. However, the Cardinals can be run on. The Bears were able to do it a little bit last week and Carolina and Green Bay were able to rip off yards in chunks.

The combination of Darrell Henderson and Sony Michel have to get rolling right away.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 14

Why Arizona Will Win

The Cardinals got back up to speed with Kyler Murray returning for last week’s win over Chicago. Now they’re back for their first home game since mid-November.

The offense might still be the star of the show, but the defense has been terrific, especially when it comes to takeaways with four against the Bears and nine in the last four games.

In a shootout, it should come down to maximizing and extending every possession.

The Cardinals are great on third downs on both sides of the ball. The Rams aren’t, especially on defense.

NFL Week 14 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Arizona converted on 8-of-13 third down tries in the first meeting and the defense clamped down hard after the first quarter.

At home, this will be a blast of a back-and-forth offensive fight … and then the Cardinal D will clamp down hard in the fourth quarter.

Expect this to be as much fun as you’ll hope this could be for a Monday Night game.

All of the CFN NFL Predictions

Chicago at Green Bay Game Preview

Why Chicago Will Win

It’s not like the Bears have anything to lose.

The defense has been solid. It hasn’t allowed more than 300 yards in total offense since Halloween, the pass defense has been a rock, and the offense should be able to get the ground attack going a bit.

Forget about throwing the ball – the Bears just don’t have the pop – but Justin Fields is expected to be back in the mix, the running backs are solid, and the defense has to help slow things down to a crawl.

However …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 14

Why Green Bay Will Win

The Green Bay run defense has been fantastic.

You beat the Packers by attacking the midrange plays – they don’t give up big bombs, but they can be dinked and dunked on to death. The Chicago passing game just isn’t strong enough or consistently enough.

Green Bay just doesn’t screw up enough to give the Bears the breaks they’ll need. The Packer turnovers aren’t there, the offense should be more balanced with Aaron Jones back, and again, that run D is getting the job done – it hasn’t allowed 100 rushing yards in any of the last five games.

NFL Week 14 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

This might be the straw game.

The Bears are 1-6 in their last seven games – with the only win coming against Detroit – but losing to Green Bay once again would take the regime change up to a whole other level.

If it’s a Packer blowout, that could happen within minutes.

The Bear defense will fight the good fight and keep this close for a half, and then Aaron Rodgers will step up and the running game will do enough to keep the chains moving.

It won’t be anything gorgeous, but the Packers will get the job done.

Buffalo at Tampa Bay Game Preview

Why Buffalo Will Win

The defense is still the best in the NFL – at least statistically.

It might have had a few meltdowns – like against Jonathan Taylor and Indianapolis – and the pass defense stats are was skewed after the wind game against New England, but this really is a good, prideful group that’s going to want to make a statement here.

Tampa Bay was able to get back on track with a three-game winning streak, but it doesn’t have the steady ground game to do what the Patriots were able to.

Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones are great when they get their chances, but the O hasn’t hit 100 yards on the ground in four of the last five games.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 14

Why Tampa Bay Will Win

The Buffalo offense feasts off the cupcakes.

Oh sure, it’s great against the Jets and put up numbers early in the year against the bad teams, but it’s not getting anything out of the running backs and the turnovers are becoming a problem.

The Bills have given the ball up 12 times over the last five weeks and Tampa Bay’s defense is forcing a ton of mistakes with ten takeaways in the last four games.

It’s not like Tom Brady needs any help.

This won’t be about bombing away for 300 yards – this will be about the midrange passing attack that should mix it up, but …

NFL Week 14 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Can the Buffalo offense start to work again? It was good against the Saints and Jets, but it’s been flat since mid-October.

The secondary, though, should make up for it – it hasn’t allowed a 300-yard passing game all year and gave up fewer than 200 in five of the last six games.

The Bills will keep Brady from going off, but it won’t be enough. The Tampa Bay defense will hold up in the second half.

All of the CFN NFL Predictions

San Francisco at Cincinnati Game Preview

Why San Francisco Will Win

The defense is taking away the ball in bunches and the offense seems to have found enough of a groove to get by.

There’s no Elijah Mitchell this week – the star RB is banged up with an apparent concussion – but there should an okay rotation of backs to go along with a serviceable passing game. The improvement of Brandon Aiyuk is starting to matter.

But it’s the defense that has to win this. It’s been able to come up with multiple takeaways in each of the last four games with three last week against Seattle in the tough loss. Cincinnati was sloppy against the Chargers with four turnovers in last week’s loss, Joe Burrow has a bum finger, and …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 14

Why Cincinnati Will Win

The Bengals should be able to get it back after a strangely overconfident performance against LA.

The run defense is grown into a force – it hasn’t allowed 100 yards since early November – and Joe Mixon and the ground game should start to work again.

Seattle hasn’t been great on the ground against anyone, but it was able to pound away on the 49ers last week. Star with the rushing attack, get Ja’Marr Chase involved early, and all should be fine. But …

NFL Week 14 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Really, can Burrow let it rip?

He’s more than tough enough to handle the discomfort of his injured finger, but can it all physically work? Yeah, he’ll be okay.

San Francisco won’t be able to run well enough and the Bengal turnover issues of last week will chill out.

New York Giants at Los Angeles Chargers Game Preview

Why New York Giants Will Win

Saquon Barkley’s ankle just doesn’t seem to be able to get him moving, but if he and the running game were to ever get going, this would be the time.

The Charger defensive front held up shockingly well in the blowout win over Cincinnati, and it managed to stuff Najee Harris and Pittsburgh a few weeks ago, but it’s allowing a whole lot of rushing yards this year.

Mike Glennon isn’t totally awful – maybe.

He’s a veteran NFL quarterback who can at least step in and get a passing game up to close to 200 yards, but his running backs have to take over in a hurry.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 14

Why Los Angeles Chargers Will Win

Yeah, Glennon is that bad. At least he was against Miami.

He threw for 187 yards but with three picks before getting hurt. The Chargers have been wildly inconsistent, but the defense took the ball away four times last week against the Bengals and it’s got the offense to put this away fast.

The Giants have a hard time moving the chains and they’re not scoring – they haven’t hit 14 points in any of the last three games. They’re getting points off of takeaways, and that’s not good enough if the Chargers are careful with the ball.

NFL Week 14 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

The Chargers haven’t been careful with the ball.

They’ve given it away five times in the last two games and should be good for a few mistakes in this. The Giants, though, will have bigger turnover problems.

There won’t be the explosive element that New York needs, and there won’t be enough of a running game to take advantage of all the leaks on the Charger front.

All of the CFN NFL Predictions

Detroit at Denver Game Preview

Why Detroit Will Win

Break up the Lions.

Just how much will that one win over Minnesota matter? Detroit have lost close game after close game – and tied one against Pittsburgh – and then it finally broke through last week.

Can that be enough to start something positive?

Denver’s offense has hit a snag, wooing 17 point or fewer in four of the last six games with stalls and turnovers last week against Kansas City. The Lions have just enough in place to keep throwing, and the running game should be okay for stretches, but …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 14

Why Denver Will Win

It’s Detroit. It’s not allowed to have nice things.

Just when the team finally gets a win and has something happy to enjoy, it gets hit with a flu bug.

No, the Denver offense isn’t going off, but the ground game hasn’t been all that bad over the last month. It’s able to rip off yards in chunks and coming up with the occasional big play, and it should have a few of those against a Lion defense that has a hard time holding up.

NFL Week 14 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Yeah, the narrative will be all about the tragic loss of former Bronco star WR Demaryius Thomas with a ceremony at the beginning of the game.

That will certainly set the tone, but it won’t be the reason for a Denver win.

Detroit is hurting to go along with its illness issues, and it’s going to have even more problems with the Denver ground attack as the game goes on.

Seattle at Houston Game Preview

Why Seattle Will Win

Houston isn’t exactly humming on all cylinders.

It’s a lost year with the goal to figure out what the team really has in Davis Mills going forward – hint: it’s got a great prospect with zero help to see what he can actually do – but there’s no running game, the downfield passing attack is lacking, and scoring 14 points or fewer in seven of the last ten games isn’t a plus.

141 yards of total offense in a shutout at home to the Colts last week wasn’t the lowest point of the year, but it wasn’t far off.

Seattle just has to take the opportunities that are there and not press. That might go against everything Russell Wilson and the passing game are about, but keep running on the league’s worst run defense, keep the chains moving, and all will be fine.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 14

Why Houston Will Win

Give Mills a chance to do something.

The Texans were able to beat Tennessee with five takeaways, and Seattle has had a few turnover issues over the last few games. They need the mistakes to flow, but they also need Mills to take his shots on the NFL’s worst pass defense.

Everyone gets fat on this group – the Seahawks have allowed 210 yards or more on everyone.

Houston might not have the receivers to air it out, but while Seattle has to be conservative, No. 10 has the O have to let it rip.

NFL Week 14 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Seattle is struggling too much to score, but it’ll be able to keep the production going well this week.

It’s going to rumble with a decent rotation of backs, and the defense will stop the disastrous Houston ground game.

Mills will get his yards to keep the team in the game, but the offense will stall late.

Atlanta at Carolina Game Preview

Why Atlanta Will Win

Carolina has a turnover problem.

Cam Newton helps the Christian McCaffrey-less running game, but the passing attack has taken a hit – Carolina hasn’t hit 200 passing yards in any of the last eight games – but the real problem is with the mistakes.

The Panthers have given it up eight times over the last four games and 18 times in the last nine.

Atlanta needs the help.

It only got one takeaway in the 19-13 loss in the first meeting on Halloween, but the situation has changed with Newton now under center. Load up against the run, and have a shot. but …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 14

Why Carolina Will Win

Atlanta’s passing game has gone bye-bye.

Matt Ryan came up with a few yards late against Tampa Bay, but they didn’t mean much.

The running game will try pounding away a bit – Carolina’s run defense is gettable – but it’s not strong enough to matter. Ryan has to be great, the Atlanta offense has to find some more downfield pop, and it’s just not there.

The Falcons only gained 213 yards of total offense in the first meeting, and it’s not going to be easy to crank up a whole lot more than that against a Panther D that doesn’t allow downfield plays.

NFL Week 14 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Atlanta just doesn’t have the offense.

Carolina might be a bit of a mess, but it’s had a week off and should crank up enough defensive production to force Newton and the offense to not have to take any big chances.

The Panthers won’t turn over the ball enough to give the Falcons the breaks they’ll need.

Dallas at Washington Game Preview

Why Dallas Will Win

It’s all about getting the running game going with the Cowboys.

Dak Prescott and the great receiving corps might be able to bomb away – and no one gives up more pass touchdowns than the Football Team – but Ezekiel Elliott and company get going, everything works.

Tony Pollard is questionable at best, and it remains to be seen if Elliott really will finally be off his pitch count and can turn into a workhorse again, but Dallas is 7-0 when running for 100 yards and 1-4 when it doesn’t.

Yeah, statistically Washington has been great against the run, but it hasn’t faced a whole slew of teams that can pound away.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 14

Why Washington Will Win

What is Washington doing that’s so right on this four-game winning streak? It’s not making a whole lot of mistakes.

Taylor Heineke has slowed with the turnovers, the team is taking advantage of its opportunities, and it’s been just that much of a slight edge that’s allowed the Football Team to win close game after close game.

Washington is 0-5 when it turns the ball over multiple times, and 6-1 when it doesn’t.

There’s that, and there’s the ground game that’s working really, really well. Antonio Gibson and the backs are rumbling – the WFT has hit 110 rushing yards or more in five of the last six games and …

NFL Week 14 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

The Dallas run defense is having issues.

The secondary gives up a ton of yards – for all the interceptions and big plays it comes up with – but the defensive front is the problem, allowing over 100 yards in each of the last seven games after only giving up that many once in the first five games.

Granted, its a knee problem and not a shoulder, but …

Do you really believe Zeke is 100% and ready to Dalvin Cook up through his injury? Probably not.

Washington is playing too well right now.

New Orleans at New York Jets Game Preview

Why New Orleans Will Win

The Jets still aren’t scoring.

They’re last in the NFL in scoring, yards, and things aren’t getting a whole lot better – the O hasn’t hit 270 yards in either of the last two games and now they’re going against a run defense that allows a league-low 3.6 yards per carry.

The Saint backfield isn’t lighting it up, but it seems like it’s finally starting to settle in a bit. Taysom Hill is now as much of a full go as possible through a slew of injuries, and really and truly it might be when Alvin Kamara gets back into the rotation with a knee injury.

Just get to 20 points, and that should be enough to get this done. However …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 14

Why New York Jets Will Win

The Saints can’t stop screwing up, and again, the offense isn’t blowing up.

Hill was a turnover machine in the loss to Dallas, a few weeks after Trevor Siemian was a turnover machine in the loss to Philadelphia – eight giveaways over the last three games.

The Buffalo defense shut the Saints down to a dead stop, Dallas allowed just 17 points, and there’s not enough of a dangerous downfield passing game for the Jets to worry.

Somehow grind out a few early points at home, make Hill and the Saint O press, and good things should happen.

NFL Week 14 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

The Jets should be okay and competitive at home, but this is the fourth date in MetLife in the last five games and they lost the previous three.

However, the weather isn’t going to be awful for the dome-based team – in the 50s and no worries of precipitation – the Jets are too banged up in the backfield and receiving corps, and the Saint defense that’s been struggling for a few weeks should be able to take over after a close first half.
