Why New Orleans Will Win

The Saint secondary might be the best in the league, or close to it. The whole defense is fantastic with the parts – helped by the addition of Malcolm Jenkins – to keep the Buccaneer passing game from getting into a consistent groove. Overall, the two teams are similar in overall talent, but the Saints are just a wee bit better on the lines, a lot better at running back, and are fully formed on defense while Tampa Bay is still just putting it all together.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

He’s only been fantasy-good once in the last four years – of course, he was out all of last season – but will the time off rejuvenate him? How much will he be used in the red zone, and how much attention will he get with so many concerns about the Tampa Bay receivers? One big game wouldn’t mean he’s back to his old form, but there’s no way Brady doesn’t try feeding him at least one score.

What’s Going To Happen

Get ready to have a whole lot of fun. Both quarterbacks will roll for over 300 yards, both defenses will come up with just enough stops to keep it from getting ridiculous, and in the end, it’ll come down to one final drive. Brady will get the ball last.

Why Los Angeles Will Win

Joe Burrow, meet Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. The Chargers have a whole slew of issues and concerns, but the pass rush is going to be fantastic from the start. As good as Burrow is expected to be, it’s going to be hard to show it off behind a mediocre offensive front that should be better, but will need time to jell. That’s not going to happen against this Charger defensive front.

Why Cincinnati Will Win

It’s not like the Chargers have anything special on the offensive line, either. The passing game will be competent with Tyrod Taylor throwing to a good group of receivers, and Austin Ekeler is an okay back, but can they get any time to work? The defensive front might be Cincinnati’s most improved area, and the secondary should be a bit better after bringing in a few key reinforcements.

Always a great fill-in when Melvin Gordon wasn’t able to go, now Ekeler is the well-played No. 1 back with the pressure of the running game all on his shoulders. The Chargers have the defense, and they have a decent passing game, and now it’s up to Ekeler to round out everything else.

What’s Going To Happen

The Charger defense will take over in the second half. The Cincinnati offense will be Joe Mixon-heavy as much as possible, and it’s not going to force Burrow to play hero ball, but he’ll be under pressure all game long.

The offensive line should now be in place to make the running game a killer. the Browns have the 1-2 rushing punch of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, and after working on the offensive front through free agency and grabbing Alabama’s Jedrick Wills in the draft, and now it’s time to bash away.

Why Baltimore Will Win

The Cleveland linebackers are going to be a bit of a work in progress. They’re not bad, but they’re going to count on a combination of draft picks, new parts, and questionable veterans to get a whole lot better. Trying to deal with Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore running game isn’t the way to tune up.

Is this when he starts to break out as a Brown? He wasn’t awful last year – 74 catches with four touchdowns – but he was a fantasy team killer. Now he’s had a year with Baker Mayfield, and now it’s time to be an elite fantasy No. 1 guy. It starts right away.

What’s Going To Happen

It’s going to be a really, really good game. Cleveland’s defensive front will hold up well enough to keep Jackson from taking off for big chunks of yards, and Mayfield will have a terrific opener against an elite defense. Baltimore will bounce back quickly, but it’s going to press too hard out of the gate, and the Browns will play loose and effective.

There’s no more Raider-like wide receiver than the flash of lightning that’s Ruggs. Can he be a bit of a volume-catcher, or will he be a home run hitter who comes up large in leagues that value yards per catch? He’ll be targeted for at least two long bombs.

What’s Going To Happen

There might be a slew of changes with the Oakland-to-Las Vegas franchise, but few teams underwent a bigger overhaul than Carolina. New head coach Matt Rhule knows what he’s doing, but this is a young team that’s going to need time. The Raiders aren’t going to do anything crazy. They’ll run effectively, control the clock, and they’ll get the few big plays needed out of the improved receiving corps.

The Football Team’s offensive line should be more than okay. It’s not going to dominate the Philadelphia defensive front, but it should be able to hold its own. The defensive line has the upside to be terrific, too, with the addition of Chase Young upgrading an already solid front four. If Haskins is just okay, Washington should be able to at least hang around.

Adrian Peterson has been released, and Derrius Guice is done after alleged off-field incidents in his past. Gibson is a flash of lightning out of Memphis who’ll work behind a decent Washington line, but the pressure is on to take the pressure off Haskins from the start.

What’s Going To Happen

Washington will be good enough on the lines to hang around, but Philadelphia’s defense will hold when it has to, and a healthy Carson Wentz will rise up and be sharp with the fan base wanting to see what Jalen Hurts can do. It’ll be a good-looking performance for the Eagles.

How much of a runner will he be? Bill Belichick has made no secret about how much he wants to add more of a rushing element to the quarterback mix after seeing what Lamar Jackson has done to be a game-changer. Newton isn’t going to be Jackson, but the offense will have another dimension that hasn’t been there in decades.

What’s Going To Happen

Miami will be competent. It’s not going to be a total disaster, but it won’t get the offense going well enough to overcome a New England defense that’s going to be strong from the start. Newton won’t be Brady-sharp, but the offense will be creative, the line will take over, and Game One post-Brady will be a success.
