Cornerback Marlon Humphrey is the first Baltimore Ravens player to appear on the NFL Network’s “Top 100 Players of 2020” list. The All-Pro cornerback made the cut at No. 86. It’s his first appearance on the list, something he’s wanted for years.
While Humphrey making the list at all is a great thing, I can’t help but feel he’s still being underrated here. Humphrey played out of position last year, spending a lot of time in the slot instead of on the outside where he’s played his entire career. Humphrey also went up against some of the best wide receivers in the league last season, doing more than hold his own when challenged. Though it’s unclear how many cornerbacks will make the list, Humphrey firmly cemented himself as one of the top players at the position, and he’s still getting better.
Humphrey came down with three interceptions in 2019, adding to his two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and two fumbles returned for touchdowns. When targeted by opposing quarterbacks, Humphrey allowed a paltry 68.4 passer rating, besting his already impressive 69.1 passer rating from 2018. For his work last year, Humphrey earned his first Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro nominations. He’s now in line for a contract that could put him among the highest paid at the position.
The Ravens are tied for the most players to make the top-100 list this year, seeing seven make the cut.
