Broncos interested in being Jaguars’ opponent for 2022 International Series

The Broncos’ acting owner Joe Ellis is campaigning for his team to play the Jaguars in London this season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are scheduled to face all four AFC West and NFC East teams this season. The Denver Broncos, who the Jaguars are slated to host this season, are campaigning to face them in London.

Broncos president/CEO Joe Ellis, who is acting as the franchise owner until a sale is completed, indicated at the NFL owners meeting in Florida this week that he would like to play in London this fall.

“I’d love to see us [play there],” Ellis said Monday. “We play the Jaguars. We’ll see if that becomes a possibility. I don’t know right now for sure. But I’ve expressed interest on behalf of the team. Coach [Nathaniel] Hackett is bullish on it, George [Paton] is bullish on it, Russell Wilson is bullish on it. We’re lobbying as hard as we can.”

Denver volunteered to play the Atlanta Falcons in London during the 2020 season, which later came to fruition. However, the game was moved stateside due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This news most likely makes the Broncos the favorite to be the Jaguars’ opponent in Wembley Stadium this season.

The league’s full international schedule will be released when the complete schedule is announced in late April or early May. The NFL is scheduled to play international games in Germany and Mexico. The Jaguars’ London game has historically been held in October.

The Jags’ record in the United Kingdom currently is 4-4. If they were to play the Broncos there this season, they would be up against a franchise who they’ve split the all-time series with (7-7).

U.S. men’s national soccer team star and Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic was at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Sunday to watch the New York Jets take on the Atlanta Falcons in one of the NFL’s international games.

Pulisic lives in the London area and his Premier League club, Chelsea, are based just 10 miles from Tottenham, where the NFL plays several games each season.

Pulisic was born and raised in Hershey, Pennsylvania, a little less than three hours west of East Rutherford, New Jersey, where the Jets play at MetLife Stadium. Despite their struggles, the Jets are Pulisic’s favorite team.

The USMNT have a World Cup qualifying match against Panama in Panama City on Sunday evening but Pulisic stayed behind with his club in England to continue rehabbing from an ankle injury during the international window.

Adding insult to injury, the Jets lost to the Falcons 27-20 with Pulisic in attendance on Sunday.

Pulisic should be recovered in time for the next international window in November that will feature a USMNT home match vs. Mexico in Cincinnati, Ohio. As for the Jets, they now have a bye week before going on the road to face the New England Patriots in Week 7.

Jets vs. Falcons Week 5 injury report: 6 players ruled out for London game

The Jets and Falcons will be without some key contributors when they meet up in London.

The Jets and Falcons will be without some key contributors when they meet up in London.

The good news is that the Jets expect to have WR Elijah Moore and CB Brandin Echols back after both cleared concussion protocol. The Jets will also make use of undrafted rookie TE Kenny Yeboah for the first time, as they are short at tight end.

Gang Green won’t have S Marcus Maye either, but that was expected. The plan is for him to return after the Week 6 bye.

Below, you can see the full injury report for the Jets and the Falcons, who have ruled out a total of six players.

Atlanta Falcons will play London matchup in 2021

It was announced Thursday afternoon that the Falcons will play a home game in London in 2021.

On Thursday, the Atlanta Falcons confirmed they will be playing at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London this upcoming season. The team was set to play a home game in London in 2020, but all international games were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic last season.

The matchup will count as a home game for the Falcons in 2021, and while the opponent has yet to be declared, it won’t be an NFC South team, per ESPN’s Michael Rothstein. Here is the list of possible opponents.

  • New England Patriots
  • New York Jets
  • Washington Football Team
  • Detroit Lions

The last time Atlanta played in London was in 2014 when the team lost to the Lions after a second-half comeback by Detroit.

Kareem Jackson says Broncos should be ‘first in line’ to play in London in 2021

Broncos safety Kareem Jackson wants to play in London next season.

In response to COVID-19, the NFL has announced that all games in 2020 will be played in the United States. Before the coronavirus pandemic, the league was planning to play two games in Mexico and four games in England this fall.

The Broncos were expected to face the Falcons in London this season but that game will now be played in Atlanta. Denver safety Kareem Jackson tweeted that he was “sick” about the news.

The Broncos haven’t played in England since 2020. Denver fans across the pond are eager for the team to return to the United Kingdom.

Next year, the Broncos will have a road game against an AFC South opponent who finishes in the same place in their respective division.

So if Denver and the Jaguars both finish second in their divisions, they will be scheduled to play in 2021. That game could be a candidate to be played in London. The Broncos are also scheduled to face Jacksonville on the road in 2022.

Denver’s finalized schedule with dates and times will be announced on Thursday. We already know who Denver’s 2020 opponents will be.

Poll: Will you purchase season tickets now that the Jags have 8 home games?

Monday afternoon the Jacksonville Jaguars came out to confirm the reports that they would be gaining two home games for the upcoming season. With the coronavirus pandemic causing concerns the NFL ultimately decided to cancel the international series entirely, giving those who were set to be the home teams for the NFL’s games in London and Mexico City games back.

As a result, the Jags announced a “Back to Football” season ticket flex plan for 2020 with a full slate of eight regular season home games (and two preseason games), a first since 2011. The flex plan consisted of several features including a seven-month payment plan, a two-year payment plan, full refunds for all season ticket holders before the 2020 season, and more.

This comes after Shad Khan announced that the Jags would be playing an additional game in London as they were already obligated to play one game a season there after signing a multi-year international series deal. His decision to have two games in London didn’t exactly sit well with fans, so gaining the games back is a silver lining for the fanbase — although these certainly aren’t the terms they wanted them back on.

In the reactions post we did when the additional London game was announced, almost nobody agreed with the move, but now that the Jags have their 2020 games back, we’d like to know you will be purchasing season tickets? Let us know in the poll below and feel free to comment as well.

Broncos won’t play Falcons in London this season

The Falcons won’t get an international game against the Broncos in London this fall. Instead, the game will be played in Atlanta.

The Denver Broncos will not face the Atlanta Falcons at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England this season. Instead, the Falcons will host the Broncos at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

In response to COVID-19, the NFL announced Monday that all 2020 games will be scheduled to be played in the United States. The league had been planning to schedule two games in Mexico City and four games in London before the coronavirus pandemic.

“After considerable analysis, we believe the decision to play all our games domestically this season is the right one for our players, our clubs, and all our fans in the US, Mexico and UK,” NFL Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy and Growth Officer Christopher Halpin said in a statement.

“We greatly appreciate the support of our governmental and stadium partners in Mexico and the United Kingdom, who all agree with this decision, and we look forward to returning for games in both countries in the 2021 season.”

If the Broncos had traveled to face the Falcons in the U.K., it would have been considered a “road” game for Denver. The Broncos haven’t played in England since 2010, when wide receiver Brandon Lloyd caught seven passes for 169 yards and a touchdown in a 24-16 loss to the San Francisco 49ers at Wembley Stadium. There were 83,941 fans in attendance for that contest.

Denver’s complete 2020 schedule has not yet been announced but we do know which teams the Broncos will play this fall. The NFL’s schedule is expected to be announced later this week.

Daily Mail: NFL not expected to play international games in 2020

The NFL is not expected to schedule international games this year, according to a London-based newspaper.

The NFL is not expected to announce international games when the 2020 schedule is released later this week, according to a report from the Daily Mail, a London-based newspaper.

It’s unclear if the Daily Mail got word of the NFL’s plans early or if the paper is merely reporting based on speculation.

The Denver Broncos were expected to play in Atlanta Falcons in London this fall before COVID-19 turned sports — and international travel — upside down. Now the status of that international game is uncertain.

In response to the Daily Mail‘s report, a Broncos source told The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala that the team has “not heard from the league one way or the other” about the status of the NFL’s international schedule.

If the international schedule goes on as planned, the Broncos will likely have a “road” game against the Falcons in England. If the NFL decides to keep all games stateside, Denver will travel to Atlanta for the contest.

Calais Campbell hoping 2 London games will give Jags advantage over opponents

Calais Campbell believes two games in London will be tough, however, it could also put the team at an advantage.

While the fans have sounded off (mostly negatively) about the Jacksonville Jaguars’ decision to move two games to London, the players on the current roster didn’t speak out on the matter. However, after doing an interview on Sirius XM Radio, Calais Campbell broke that silence as 2020’s trip to London will be his fourth.

As expected, the veteran admitted the trip would make things tough on the team but also added that it could give the Jags an advantage over whoever  the Jags face across the pond.

“It’s one of those things where it’s gonna be tough,” Campbell said to SiriusXM NFL Radio. ‘It’s gonna be a situation where you’re gonna be in a new place — we’ve been there before, we have some familiarity with it — it’s gonna be a little bit tougher. I hope that whoever those teams we play, we get an advantage over them.”

Campbell is right, if there is any good to come from this situation it’s that the Jags are familiar with the routine of traveling to London. Sure, that hasn’t been the case in their last two games in London against the Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans, but those were two playoff caliber teams. Simply put, maybe they could have more success this time around if it’s a team that isn’t nearly as talented, or perhaps one that is coming off a week against a tough opponent.

As for the second game, the Jags could be at an advantage because they would have their initial trip over with while that might not be the case for the opponent. The key to playing in London is all about routine. That already puts the traveling team at a disadvantage as the Jags will be waiting in London. The opponents, however, would be on an irregular schedule.

While the Jags lost to the Texans during their last trip to London, maybe they should hope for two divisional games in the United Kingdom, which is unlikely. After all, they need every advantage they can get in a crucial year for the franchise.

Arthur Blank thinks Falcons will play Broncos in London this fall

The Falcons are expected to play against the Broncos in London, England during the 2020 NFL season.

In an interview with United Kingdom-based talkSPORT at NFL Honors on Saturday, Falcons owner Arthur Blank told Oliver Wilson that he thinks his team will face the Broncos in London, England next season.

“I really couldn’t be happier that we’re going back,” Blank said. “We had a weird ending to the last game [in London] — we lost on the last play of the last game against the Lions but we’re still looking forward to coming back.

“I think we’re playing against the Broncos — I think, from what I’ve heard — but I’m not sure. So we’ll see. We’re excited about it.”

Broncos president/CEO Joe Ellis has been campaigning for an international game and he made it clear during his end-of-season press conference last December that his team wants to play in England.

“I’m basically begging to get it because I think it’d be very good for us to play there,” Ellis said, adding that the contest would be played Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Denver last played in London in 2010, a 24-16 loss to the 49ers. The NFL will announce its 2020 international schedule later this offseason.
