Running back J.K. Dobbins finished second in Comeback Player of the Year voting behind Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. Dobbins received three first-place votes.

Dobbins was the only finalist, but some other players and coaches did receive votes following the 2024 season.

Here’s a quick look at the Chargers receiving votes for major awards.

Most Valuable Player of the Year

Quarterback Justin Herbert received three fourth-place votes. Bills QB Josh Allen was the winner.

Comeback Player of the Year

Vikings QB Sam Darnold named finalist for Comeback Player of the Year

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold is a finalist for the NFL Comeback Player Of the Year Award.

Although his season ended sourly, Sam Darnold had a great season as the Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback. He completed 66.2% of his passes for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns, all career-highs. His performance could land him a postseason accolade.

The Associated Press announced its finalists for eight awards on Thursday. Darnold is among five finalists for the AP Comeback Player Of the Year award.

It was the first time in his seven-year career that Darnold was put in a position to start and succeed. The former No. 3-overall pick was traded to the Carolina Panthers after three up-and-down seasons with the New York Jets. He then joined the San Fransisco 49ers to back up Brock Purdy after playing only 18 games in two years with the Panthers.

Minnesota was intrigued with Darnold after he spent time learning from 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, one of the league’s best offensive minds. Kevin O’Connell built on that, helping get Darnold selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time.

The award winners will be announced on Feb. 6 during the 14th annual NFL Honors ceremony. FOX and NFL Network will air the event live at 9 PM ET.

Vikings coaching staff well represented in NFL Award nominations

Two Minnesota Vikings coaches are finalists for the Associated Press’ NFL awards.

The Associated Press announced finalists for its eight NFL awards on Thursday. A few Minnesota Vikings coaches are included after leading the team to a surprise 14-3 record in 2024.

As expected, Kevin O’Connell is among five finalists for the 2024 AP Coach Of the Year award. The third-year head coach helped Sam Darnold revitalize his career and had the Vikings one win away from winning the NFC North and hold the NFC’s No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

This is the second time O’Connell has been a finalist for the award. He was a finalist in 2022 after leading the Vikings to a 13-4 record in his first season. However, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll won the award after a 9-8 record in his first season.

Brian Flores is among five 2024 Assistant Coach Of the Year Award finalists. The Vikings defense was one of the league’s best, ranking fifth in points allowed and leading the league with 24 interceptions. This was done with talented but new starters across the defense.

The award winners will be announced on Feb. 6 during the 14th annual NFL Honors ceremony. FOX and NFL Network will air the event live at 9 PM ET.

Jared Verse is no longer the favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year

Jared Verse is losing his grip on the Defensive Rookie of the Year award after being the favorite for most of the season. Here’s who overtook him.

Jared Verse opened the season with the third-best odds to win Defensive Rookie of the Year, trailing only Dallas Turner and Laiatu Latu. He was a popular pick among analysts because of his tremendous fit with the Los Angeles Rams and his clear path to extensive playing time.

It didn’t take long for Verse to emerge as the favorite to win the award, taking over the top spot after just two weeks. He remained the betting favorite from Week 3 to 15 but with only three games remaining, he no longer has the best odds.

According to BetMGM, Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell has overtaken Verse as the favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year. It’s still an incredibly close race, but Verse’s grip on the award is slipping away a little bit.

As of now, Mitchell is +105 ($100 bet wins $105) to take home the hardware, while Verse is +135. Chargers standout Tarheeb Still has the third-best odds at +900, followed by Chop Robinson at +1000. Everyone else is +3500 or longer to win.

  • Quinyon Mitchell: +105
  • Jared Verse: +135
  • Tarheeb Sill: +900
  • Chop Robinson: +1000
  • Laiatu Latu: +3500
  • Cooper DeJean: +3500
  • Calen Bullock: +4000
  • Payton Wilson: +6600
  • Kamari Lassiter: +6600
  • Braden Fiske: +6600

Fiske’s odds have slipped in recent weeks after he climbed up the board, which is understandable considering he hasn’t had a sack or tackle for a loss in his last three games, recording just five total tackles in that span.

Verse’s production has slipped, too. He hasn’t registered a single sack or tackle for a loss in his last five games and he has just three QB hits in that span, all of which came against the Saints.

Both players are still having a tremendous impact for the Rams, but they’re not putting up the numbers that voters will be looking at.

DeVonta Smith is the Eagles nominee for 2024 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award

DeVonta Smith is the Eagles nominee for 2024 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award

The NFL released its 32 nominees for the tenth annual Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award on Wednesday morning. Since its inception in 2014, each NFL team has nominated one of its players for the award, which recognizes players around the league who exemplify outstanding sportsmanship on the field. The award honors the late founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pro Football Hall of Famer, Art Rooney Sr.

“Sportsmanship is the core of the game, the vanguard of public confidence, the keeper of game integrity,” said Troy Vincent, NFL executive vice president of football operations. “These Rooney Sportsmanship Award nominees exemplify the spirit of fair play and the values of respect, integrity, commitment to team, and resiliency at the highest level of competition.”

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver was nominated for this prestigious award. His extraordinary leadership and sportsmanship have been evident throughout this season as he helps out the younger guys on defense while still putting up great numbers on the field.

Current NFL player’s votes determine the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award winner. The winner will be announced during NFL Honors and receive a $25,000 donation from the NFL Foundation to a charity of his choice.

Since 2014, no Philadelphia Eagles and two wide receivers (Matthew Slater and Larry Fitzgerald) have won the award.

Saquon Barkley’s NFL MVP odds jump following Eagles 37-20 win over Rams in Week 12

Saquon Barkley now has the third best odds to win the AP NFL MVP Award following Eagles 37-20 win over Rams in Week 12

The Eagles fans took over SoFi Stadium, and Saquon Barkley ran into the thick of the NFL MVP race with an electric 255-yard rushing performance in Philadelphia’s 37-20 win over the Rams on Sunday night.

Barkley’s explosion included touchdown runs of 70 and 72 yards, and his 255 yards are the ninth-most in an NFL game in league history. Barkley shattered LeSean McCoy’s record of 217 yards in a game (2013 Snow Bowl vs. Lions) with his 72-yard run that acted as a knockout punch.

“He’s the best in the league. He’s the best at what he does,” Quarterback Jalen Hurts said in his postgame interview with Barkley standing across from him. “He’s a bad man.”

In the latest BETMGM odds, Barkley has the third-best odds behind Josh Allen (+150) and Lamar Jackson (+220).

Barkley’s 1,392 yards now lead the NFL, with Derrick Henry still to play Monday night against the Chargers, sitting at 1,185. Barkley has five games with 140+ rush yards and 1+ rush touchdown in 2024, which is the most in the NFL.

Even more important, Barkley is on pace to shatter LeSean McCoy’s Eagles’ all-time single-season rushing record (1,607 in 2013).

Rams rookie Kamren Kinchens named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after 103-yard pick-six

Rams rookie Kamren Kinchens was named the top defender in the NFC for Week 9 after his historic 103-yard pick-six

Kamren Kinchens had himself quite the day on Sunday and he’s earned national recognition for his performance against the Seattle Seahawks. The Los Angeles Rams rookie picked off two passes in the team’s overtime win in Week 9, including a 103-yard pick-six to give the Rams a 20-13 lead in the fourth quarter.

On Wednesday, Kinchens was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 9, a high honor for the rookie safety out of Miami. Both of his interceptions came in the red zone, not only keeping points off the board for the Seahawks, but putting points up for his own team by returning it for a touchdown.

His 103-yard return was the longest pick-six in Rams history and is also the fourth-longest ever in the NFL. Among rookies, it’s the longest return in the Super Bowl era, which dates back to 1967.

Kinchens has had an up-and-down rookie year thus far, going through some growing pains as a first-year player, but Sunday’s game was unquestionably his best yet in the NFL.

Kinchens is the second Rams player to win Defensive Player of the Week this season, joining Cobie Durant, who won it in Week 7.

Detroit Lions players keep racking up awards, with Kalif Raymond, Jahmyr Gibbs and Jared Goff all being honored this week

Clear off the mantles, because there is some fresh hardware that needs a home for a few Detroit Lions players.

In the wake of Detroit’s 52-14 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 8, the awards keep coming in for some Lions. Wideout Kalif Raymond earned the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his standout performance on punt returns.

He’s been joined by running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who did something no Lions player has ever done before. Gibbs captured the FedEx Ground Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.

But wait, there’s more!

Quarterback Jared Goff earned the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for October. He’s the first Lions QB to ever win that honor.

Jack Fox named Week 3 NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Jack Fox wrapped up a strong week by taking home some hardware. The Lions’ punter was named Week 3’s Special Teams Player of the Week.

Fox was a key piece in Detroit’s 20-13 win Sunday over the Arizona Cardinals. Four of his five punts were inside the 20 and he averaged 49.4 yards per punt.

For the season, he has eight punts inside the 20 and is averaging 49.5 yards per punt with a net average of 44.0. Fox’s 68-yard punt Sunday currently marks as the second longest of the season. Ryan Rehkow of the Bengals had an 80-yard punt in Week 1 against the Patriots.

Here’s how Brock Purdy, 49ers fared in MVP and other NFL post-season awards voting

Here’s how the voting shook out for all the NFL post-season awards the #49ers were involved in:

The 49ers were well-represented in the NFL post-season awards given out at Thursday’s NFL Honors ceremony. Kyle Shanahan, Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey were all up for awards, but only one of them took home hardware.

McCaffrey won the Offensive Player of the Year award after leading the NFL in rushing and scrimmage yards, and tying for the league lead in touchdowns. McCaffrey and Purdy both lost out on the MVP award, while Shanahan was passed over in Coach of the Year voting.

How close did they come to winning awards though, and which player unexpectedly received votes?

Here’s how the voting went for each award per the APs Josh Dubow, with first-second-third place votes counted, followed by their total points:
