Here are the contract details for Christian Kirk and Brandon Scherff

Here are the figures for two of the Jaguars’ newest free agents Christian Kirk and Brandon Scherff.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ front office went on a shopping spree to kick off the tampering period of free agency on Monday like they were playing Madden’s franchise mode with the salary cap option turned off. Jacksonville signed a whopping six free agents like wide receivers Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, offensive guard Brandon Scherff, and linebacker Foye Oluokun, to name a few.

However, this isn’t a video game, and the Jags still have to play by the NFL’s rules. It wasn’t clear what Scherff’s and Kirk’s contract figures were at the time their agreements were reported on Monday, but they later became available before Day 1 of the tampering period ended.

Spotrac reported that the former Washington Commander guard’s contract is for three years, $45.5 million with $30 million guaranteed. His cap hit is significantly lower in 2022 than in the last two years at only $7.7 million. In 2023, the figure jumps up to $20 million and then $21.5 million during the final year of the agreement.

Kirk’s contract is structured similarly to Scherff’s. It was reported that the former Arizona Cardinals receiver would have a contract for four years worth up to $84 million, but NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted that the actual deal is $72 million in base value with $37 million guaranteed. His cap hit in his first year is $7.5 million then becomes $21.5 million in the last three seasons.

It’s still a massive deal for Kirk because Spotrac had his market value projection at $11.8 million and he now makes $9.2 million more annually than that figure. His new deal makes him the eighth-highest paid wide receiver and is currently tied with Kansas City’s Tyreek Hill in average annual value.

The Jags will have to wait and see if he ever lives up to his contract’s billing.
