NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll – Oct. 19, 2023

Buford stays perfect atop NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Unbeaten Buford capped a 4-0 week with a pair of super-regional routs of Milton to move forward in the Georgia state tournament and remain No. 1 in the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll for a 12th straight ranking, dating to the final three polls of last season.

The (28-0) Wolves have been the top team all nine weeks of the 2023 season, outscoring their four most recent opponents by a combined 41-0 margin. The defending Georgia 7A titlist doesn’t play again until next Wednesday’s playoff matchup with Lownes.

No. 2 Holy Family (24-1) kept pace with two lopsided wins, and will compete in the state tournament this weekend along with the other four ranked teams from Colorado.

Gretna (32-4) continued to drop in the rankings after splitting two games late last week with fellow ranked team Millard North (28-6). The Dragons fell to 16th, one spot below Nebraska state champion Papillion-LaVista (29-8), which defeated Millard North, 10-3, in Monday’s Class A final and beat Gretna in the championship of the NFCA Kaiti Williams Memorial Leadoff Classic last month.

Top-10 Missouri schools Blue Springs South (25-2) and Washington (34-1-1) gained two more places apiece this week after securing district titles. Both have state quarterfinal games on Saturday, as does No. 12 Raymore-Peculiar (29-2).

Piedmont (39-3) is the new No. 8 team after winning its third-straight Oklahoma Class 5A state crown and fourth title in the last five seasons. The Wildcats closed the year in style, winning their final 25 games to score the most victories of any team in the state’s Class 3A to 6A.

The five Georgia squads in the rankings either won their super regional bracket or are still alive for a bracket title. Lassiter (27-1) and East Coweta (29-3) are both through to the next round, while Pope (28-3) would have to be defeated twice in its final to not move forward. Houston County (27-4) and East Paulding (24-5) both have playoff games later today.

State rankings submitted by the 2023 NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality, strength of schedule, and active NFCA membership. Five states — Colorado, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri — play a fall fastpitch schedule, while Iowa recently completed its summer season.

NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll – Oct. 12, 2023

Minimal changes to NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Unbeaten No. 1 Buford kept rolling and most everything else remained the same in this week’s NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The reigning Georgia 7A champion (24-0) Wolves defeated Collins Hill, 9-1 Tuesday, in their only action over the past seven days. Buford plays Dacula later today in a Region 8-7A contest, having defeated the Falcons by a combined 24-2 margin in their two earlier meetings.

A second loss in two weeks couldn’t keep Gretna on Buford’s heels any longer, as the (30-3) Dragons fell behind Holy Family (22-1) to the No. 3 spot. New No. 2 Holy Family rolled by Rocky Mountain, 16-3, in its lone game last Friday.

Oklahoma state titlist Caddo (39-2), which defeated Red Oak, 1-0, in last Saturday’s Class A final remains fourth, while Eaton (22-1), a 16-0 victor over Brush last Thursday, rounds out the first five.

Elsewhere, new No. 16 Arvada West (19-3) moved ahead of Columbine (19-4) among Colorado schools, and Iowa 2A state champion Regina Catholic (30-8) leapfrogged the Nebraska duo of Papillion-LaVista (25-8) and Lincoln East (29-8) into the No. 22 position.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Buford stayed undefeated and the top 10 teams were unchanged in the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The top-ranked and reigning Georgia 7A champion (23-0) Wolves won three more contests to extend their win streak to 30 games with a 15-0 rout of Central Gwinnett on Wednesday. Third-ranked Caddo (36-2) completed a 5-0 week, while No. 5 Eaton (13 games) and sixth-ranked Blue Springs South (16 games) are in the midst of long win streaks. Among Blue Springs’ triumphs was a second victory over No. 12 Raymore-Peculiar in the last two weeks, 3-1 on Monday.

Elsewhere, No. 22 Papillion-LaVista (23-7) returned to the poll after a week absence, and Broken Arrow dropped out after two losses over the past seven days.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two more victories kept Buford undefeated and the No. 1 team in the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll for a sixth straight week.

The reigning Georgia 7A champion (20-0) Wolves extended their win streak to 27 games with a 11-1 win over Dacula on Tuesday. Buford’s last defeat was a 1-0 playoff loss to Lambert in the Georgia Class 7A Super Regionals.

NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll – Sept. 21, 2023

Top five unchanged in NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The top five remained the same, with undefeated Buford still the No. 1 team in the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The (18-0) Wolves collected three more victories to stay first nationally for a fifth week, and eighth week overall dating back to last year. Buford defeated Mill Creek, 9-1, last Thursday to finish claiming both ends of a home-and-home series, then rolled past Walnut Grove, 8-0, and Central Gwinnett, 15-0, earlier this week. The Wolves travel to Collins Hill for their next contest later today.

Meanwhile, teams two through five went a combined 11-0 to keep pace. No. 3 Holy Family (17-0) is the only other unbeaten team left in the rankings, while No. 2 Gretna (21-1) and fifth-ranked Eaton (13-1) each sport one loss, and No. 4 Caddo (27-2) has two losses.

Washington (22-1-1) and East Paulding (19-3) round out the revised top 10, behind No. 6 Blue Springs South (17-2), seventh-ranked Houston County (14-2) and No. 8 Owasso (25-1-1).

Arvada West (15-2) is the lone newcomer this week at No. 12, replacing fellow Colorado school Horizon, which dropped out following an 0-3 week.

NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll – Sept. 14, 2023

No change at top in NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — There were plenty of changes in this week’s NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll, but not at the top, as undefeated Buford continued rolling along.

The (15-0) Wolves won four more games to stay the big dog nationally for a fourth week this season, and seventh week overall dating back to last year. Buford, who just beat Mill Creek, 16-5, on the road on Wednesday, will play the Hawks again later today — this time at home.

The next two teams each moved up one spot after Caddo dropped back-to-back games last Friday at the Dale-Tecumseh Tournament.  New No. 2 Gretna (18-1) avenged its loss earlier this season to Papillion-LaVista in the championship game of the NFCA Kaiti Williams Memorial Leadoff with a 4-1 victory over the No. 20 Monarchs in Monday’s Metro Conference final. Meanwhile, Holy Family (15-0) went 6-0 this past week to stay unbeaten and move up to No. 3.

Caddo (23-2) slipped two places to fourth after a pair of one-run losses to Purcell and Tecumseh, but managed to stay ahead of big movers Eaton (12th to fifth), Turner (ninth to sixth), Blue Springs South (13th to seventh) and Houston County (14th to eighth), who combined to go 14-0 over the past seven days.

Elsewhere, No. 14 Riverdale Ridge (12-2) returned to the rankings after a week’s absence. The Ravens’ only losses this season are to No. 3 Holy Family and fifth-ranked Eaton.

A pair of Nebraska schools — Lincoln East (15-2) at No. 15 and Millard North (12-4) at No. 19 — and Missouri’s Rock Bridge (12-4) at No. 21 round out the four new poll teams this week.

NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll – Sept. 7, 2023

Buford bolsters No. 1 position in NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Unbeaten Buford won three more games this week to strength its position as the No. 1 team in the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The (11-0) Wolves allowed just one run combined while scoring 31 in victories over Central Gwinnett, Collins Hill and Wesleyan. The top team in the rankings for a third week this season — and sixth consecutive poll dating back to last year — has Dakula up next later today.

The next two teams swapped places, with still-perfect Caddo (19-0) leapfrogging Gretna (13-1) for the second slot. The Dragons’ only loss in a 6-1 week came Saturday to new No. 20 Papillion-LaVista (9-4) in the final of the NFCA Kaiti Williams Memorial Leadoff Classic. Caddo, meanwhile, added six more victories to its season ledger.

Holy Family (9-0), Seward (8-0), Horizon (10-0) and East Paulding (13-1) all gained one place, ahead of unbeaten poll newcomer Grandview (5-0), Turner (17-2) and Columbine (9-1) in the top 10.

Perennial Missouri powers Blue Springs South (7-2) and Washington (9-1-1) are the other two teams making their 2023 ranking debuts, at Nos. 13 and 17, respectively.

Buford remains No. 1 in NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25

NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll, Aug. 31, 2023

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — For the fifth week running, and second consecutive week to start the season, unbeaten Buford is the No. 1 team in the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The (8-0) Wolves, who defeated Mountain View, 4-3, last Thursday, return to action later today against Central Gwinnett. Buford went 32-1 and claimed its 11th Georgia High School Association championship — and first in their current classification — last season.

Gretna (7-0), the last team before Buford to hold the top spot, heads into this weekend’s NFCA Kaiti Williams Memorial Leadoff Classic title defense as the No. 2 team. The Dragons gained two places this week following triumphs over perennial Missouri power Blue Springs South and crosstown rival Gretna East.

The shuffling of the top five continued with Oklahoma’s Caddo (13-0) moving up from fifth to third, and Colorado schools Columbine (8-0) and Holy Family (7-0) slipping from second and third, respectively, to fourth and fifth. Newcomers Seward (7-0) and Horizon (7-0) round out an unbeaten first seven that is a combined 57-0 so far this season.

The other newcomer in this week’s poll is Colorado’s Riverside Ridge (5-1), which is coming off a 2-0 loss to unbeaten No. 11 Eaton on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, No. 8 East Paulding (12-1) improved its position by eight places this week after four wins, while two losses dropped Owasso (19-2-1) from sixth to 16th.

NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll, Aug. 24, 2023

Buford opens No. 1 in NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Reigning state 7A titlist Buford opens this year’s NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll exactly where it finished last season — in the No. 1 position.

The (7-0) Wolves, who were 32-1 and claimed their 11th Georgia High School Association championship — and first in their current classification — last November, have won their first seven games of the 2023 season by a 68-2 margin. Both runs Buford has allowed so far came in a 12-2 triumph over Walnut Grove on Aug. 14. The Wolves host a region game against Mountain View later today.

Meanwhile, Colorado’s Columbine (3-0) also starts ranked where it finished last season (second) after scoring 14 or more runs in each of its first three contests. The Rebels rolled past Rock Canyon, 14-3, on Tuesday, and have Fruita Monument up next on Friday.

Fellow Colorado school Holy Family (6-0), Nebraska’s Gretna (5-0) and Oklahoma’s Caddo (6-0) round out a perfect top five. Those three have outscored their opponents by a combined 158-26 through their first 17 games, averaging 9.3 runs per contest. In all, the first 10 teams in the poll are undefeated.

Elsewhere, No. 11 Turner (15-1) has been tearing it up in Oklahoma, winning its last 11, and all five ranked Iowa teams are state titlists, including repeat champions Regina Catholic (30-8) and Winterset (28-12). No. 21 North Linn (39-6) recently wrapped up its summer season with an Iowa Class 1A crown, which is the third state title in the last five years for the Lynx, who were Class 2A champs in 2019 and 2021.
