Cowboys News: Roster moves, surprises, power rankings coming out of bye

From @ToddBrock24f7: The bye-week reset finds the Cowboys looking good on the injury front and in the power rankings; two practice squad players are released.

The Cowboys seem to be taking full advantage of the bye-week reset. On the first day back to work, the team opened up two practice-squad spots with a pair of cuts. They announced encouraging news on the injury front and even climbed a few spots in the power rankings despite not strapping on a helmet. We’ll look back at the good and bad surprises that the first one-third of the season brought to Cowboys Nation, and we’ll look ahead at the key factor that could help the team gain some ground in the East over the next one-third.

Elsewhere, we’ve got a look at DaRon Bland’s continued rise at cornerback, why Markquese Bell is creating his own label, the key figure in Neville Gallimore’s turnaround, and the unlikely designer behind some of the trendiest cleats in the Cowboys locker room. All that, plus Dallas’s top competition in the division makes a major move, and one ex-Cowboy set to return for a rematch is going through a rough patch. Here’s the News and Notes.

Cowboys News: Defense under microscope, what’s the team’s biggest need?

The discourse around Mike McCarthy as the play-caller, strong grades for the Dallas defense and a deep dive into the origin of ‘Coach Prime.’ | From @cdburnett7

The bye weekend has arrived for America’s Team, but there’s still plenty to unpack. With the trade deadline looming, how will the Joneses approach this team, especially given the rare aggressiveness they showed in the offseason. Cornerback continues to be a talking point, and it’s no surprise because sustaining success without Trevon Diggs is no easy task.

The good news is that Dan Quinn’s defense is delivering, with many earning high grades for their strong start to the season. On the other side of the ball, head coach Mike McCarthy continues to make headlines for his performance as the new play caller. The growing pains are still there, and ultimate success hinges  on McCarthy and the offense finding their rhythm. More on McCarthy’s showing so far, the story of Deion Sanders before he became Coach Prime and more in the latest News and Notes.

Cowboys News: Dez courts Davante, club works out 8 free agents

From @ToddBrock24f7: A 6-time Pro Bowler’s frustrations with his current team has Cowboys salivating, plus looking ahead to Week 8’s game vs the improved Rams.

A quiet bye week still brings personnel moves in Dallas, as a divisional rival has poached some depth off the Cowboys’ practice squad and Mike McCarthy’s crew brings in a batch of free agents for a look-see heading into the second half of the season. But at least one Cowboys icon is thinking much bigger; he’s made a public plea to a six-time Pro Bowler who’s reportedly frustrated with his current team.

Plenty in Cowboys Nation are ready to skip ahead to Week 8, meanwhile, to keep up the momentum from Monday’s win. We’ll look ahead to the Rams and their suddenly-red-hot quarterback… but could the stork call their head coach call away from the sideline? Speaking of the sideline, we’ve got audio from the electrifying win over the Chargers, an inside look at how Trey Lance is using every opportunity to ramp up in his new offense, and a temperature reading on Michael Gallup as he moves forward after an ice-cold performance. All that, plus who to root for while the Cowboys are off, which Cowboys will be sporting additional colors when they come back, and will Romo Magic translate to… the pickleball court?

Cowboys News: D-line gets props, Parsons rips double standard, Dak under microscope

From @ToddBrock24f7: Micah, D-Law, and Osa earn kudos for their Week 6 performances, Mike McCarthy says the scrutiny of Dak Prescott is unlike any he’s seen.

While the first 24 hours after a win is a time to replay the game’s biggest moments and splashiest highlights, the next 24 tend to allow a deeper dive into the unsung heroes, finer details, and little things that really made the difference. In this edition of News and Notes, we turn our attention to three brilliant performances turned in along the Dallas defensive line, why Dak Prescott’s scrambles may be the key to everything in 2023, and how Luke Schoonmaker may have turned in the biggest play of the night on Monday.

Elsewhere, how Brandin Cooks’s patient approach to the season also helped CeeDee Lamb to a stellar stat line, where Dallas stands in the power rankings heading into the bye week, and Micah Parsons’s latest war of words with… well… everyone. We’ve also got news from the owners’ fall meeting, including a revised schedule for head coach interviews and a big-bucks extension for commissioner Roger Goodell.

Cowboys News: Jerry agrees with fan takes, Micah Parsons an Olympian?

From @ToddBrock24f7: The Cowboys owner disagreed on Mike McCarthy’s “safe” field goal call; Parsons wants to represent the USA on the Olympic flag football team.

It wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win. That seems to be the prevalent mood in Cowboys Nation heading into the team’s bye week. The break comes at a good time, it seems, considering that the Cowboys have some major tinkering they need to do in all three phases of the game if they hope to be a contender 12 weeks from now. We’ll recap what went right at SoFi Stadium against the Chargers in Week 6, like the offense stumbling onto a blueprint for success and the defense running their own race and coming up big in a photo finish. But we’ll also dive into the latest clock management crisis, something that had Cowboys fans seeing red Monday night.

Elsewhere, the team’s rookie kicker is on the brink of setting an NFL record, Micah Parsons may be setting his sights on Olympic gold, and one insider explores the idea of Dallas pulling the trigger on a trade before the deadline. We’ve also got disturbing news on what happened to a former Cowboys star after an argument on the basketball court, a reason to tune in for the Thanksgiving Day halftime show, and how this weekend’s results changed the landscape of the NFC playoff picture. That’s all ahead in News and Notes.

Cowboys News: Real talk on Dak, McCarthy; defense ‘flushing’ 49ers beatdown

From @ToddBrock24f7: It’s time for some honest, hard discussions about the Cowboys’ QB and head coach. The D is moving past Week 5, with help coming at LB.

It’s important to not overreact to a brutal loss like the one suffered in Santa Clara last Sunday. But it’s also not smart to gloss over the lessons that loss may impart. There are suddenly difficult questions being asked about both Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy, with all of Cowboys Nation now having to truly wonder: just what are we doing here?

The defense, for its part, is moving on to the Chargers, but last week showed clearly that if Micah Parsons isn’t going to turn in a superhero performance every week, the rest of Dan Quinn’s unit needs to step up in a big way. Elsewhere, the ex-players-turned-TV-analyst crowd has now come for CeeDee Lamb (but Lamb has clapped back), the Cowboys look to be adding yet another first-round draft pick (to replace one of their own), and we’re taking an early look at the 53-man roster (knowing it will change before Monday).

All that, plus the turf-versus-grass war rages on, a longtime Cowboys star could be headed to the Big Apple, George Kittle’s custom shirt could end up costing him a pretty penny, and the Cowboys will make a wardrobe change when they take the field at SoFi. Here’s all the News and Notes.

Cowboys News: All eyes on Prescott, Parsons still beefing with 49ers

From @ToddBrock24f7: Dak is back under the microscope, Micah Parsons’s war of words with the 49ers continues, and what the Texas Rangers can teach the Cowboys.

Dak Prescott is once again taking fire after an ice-cold performance in San Francisco. While his track record against the 49ers doesn’t bode well for even getting out of the NFC postseason bracket, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gave his quarterback a big vote of confidence on Tuesday. All this as a former opponent took a cheap shot at No. 4 on TV… and then social media reminded him of the last time he met Prescott on the field. The smack talk didn’t end there; Micah Parsons is in a war of words with several 49ers players two full days after the game went final.

Elsewhere, we’ve got injury updates, a deeper dive into the moments- both good and bad- that made up the Week 5 loss, and why Dan Quinn is faced with a real problem in potentially trying to replace Leighton Vander Esch. All that, plus the Chargers’ top rushing threat says he’ll be back to face Dallas, and the timely lesson the Cowboys could stand to learn from… the Texas Rangers?!? Here’s your News and Notes.

Cowboys News: Vander Esch’s prognosis, Lamb’s frustration, Turpin’s glimmer of hope

From @ToddBrock24f7: Week 5’s loss was costly for the Cowboys in more ways than one. Multiple players may be headed for IR; one could practice this week.

Week 5’s brutal loss ended up costing the Cowboys in more ways than one. We’ve got the latest on the injuries suffered by multiple key players; two Cowboys stars could be heading to IR shortly, and another could be done for the year, but one has a chance to practice this week ahead of the team’s return trip to the California coast.

Meanwhile, we’re dissecting the San Fran fiasco with full analysis, including the biggest plays, the photos that tell the story, and how it unfolded for fans online. We’ll bring you what the principal characters had to say, from Dak Prescott’s admission to Micah Parsons’s denial, what Dan Quinn hopes is the lesson learned to why Mike McCarthy is happy about one of his biggest playmakers being fed up. All that, plus Dallas takes a dive in the power rankings, and how the big game played with TV audiences and in-person fans. News and Notes has it all…

Cowboys News: How to beat 49ers, encouraging injury report, special special teams

From @ToddBrock24f7: A possible blueprint for how to win in San Francisco, Dak takes responsibility, and the Cowboys get positive updates on the injury front.

The latest injury report has encouraging news for Cowboys fans heading into their biggest game yet and maybe one of the most important of the 2023 season. As Dallas prepares to welcome the offensive line they’ve been waiting a year and a half for, one Cowboys insider does a deep dive into the stats and comes up with a solid plan for handing the 49ers their first defeat of the season.

Meanwhile, the players speak on the significance of this early-October showdown, Dak Prescott takes responsibility for how the last two meetings ended, and we learn what Trey Lance has been sharing with his new team about his old team’s tendencies. All that, plus a look inside the Cowboys backfield, how Mike McCarthy uses all that GPS info, John Fassel’s special relationship with his guys, and how cheering on the Cowboys last week at AT&T Stadium gave one couple the gameday souvenir of a lifetime. News and Notes, coming right up.

Cowboys News: Unsung heroes, hype for 49ers, fear? No.

From @ToddBrock24f7: Don’t forget about these under-the-radar stars from the big win over New England, plus pumping up Week 5, and pumping Trey Lance for intel.

Week 5’s visit to San Francisco is shaping up to be a showdown of NFC powers, but the Cowboys come with a few question marks. When, for instance, is the red-zone offense going to start clicking? And what if one of the most dominant offensive linemen in the the game can’t go yet again? And can the run defense be as good as they were in their three wins when it’s Christian McCaffrey coming across the line? Sunday night won’t need much hype, but Jerry Jones is providing it anyway.

Meanwhile, Dallas has added practice squad depth at a position of need, Cowboys coaches talk about what they saw early on from DaRon Bland that made him a draft-day steal, and Terence Steele shares the heartfelt story of how he learned to face the kind of adversity that renders football pretty unimportant. All that, plus a few last looks back at the big win over the Patriots, how Cowboys players graded out in Week 4, and what the Dallas coaching staff is hoping to get from Trey Lance this week in regard to his former team. News and Notes; here we go…
