The Detroit Pistons (1-4) welcome the New York Knicks (2-2) to Little Caesars Arena Friday. Tip is set for 7 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NBA odds around the Knicks vs. Pistons odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Knicks won 3-0 in 2023-24

The Pistons are coming off a 105-95 road win over the Philadelphia 76ers Wednesday, closing as a 4-point underdog. They have closed as an underdog in all 5 games and have covered in 3 straight after starting the season 0-2 against the spread (ATS). Detroit has struggled offensively, scoring score more than 105 points in just 2 of its 5 games. The Pistons are led by G Cade Cunningham, who is averaging 25.6 points per game (PPG).

The Knicks beat the Miami Heat 116-107 in their last game Wednesday, closing as a 1.5-point road favorite. They have closed as a favorite in 3 of 4  games and are 2-1 ATS when favored. The Knicks have scored more than 109 points twice in 4 games, but when they have hit that mark, they’ve tallied at least 116. New York has championship aspirations and is led by G Jalen Brunson‘s 22.8 PPG.

Knicks at Pistons picks and predictions

Prediction

Knicks 106, Pistons 101

Moneyline

PASS.

There’s no real rationale to take either side on the moneyline. The Knicks are the more short-handed side, but are a far better side. They aren’t worth a play as a significant road favorite. Avoid this play.

Against the spread

BET PISTONS +6.5 (-110).

The Pistons haven’t come out on top often this season, but they have been able to keep games close. They have been a single-digit underdog 3 times  and are 2-1 ATS in those. Detroit has lost by double figures just once this season.

The Knicks have a quality side, but could be without Towns and have traded off having an impressive performance and having a lousy one. They are coming off one of their more impressive wins, a 9-point road victory at Miami in which they closed as a 1.5-point favorite. That suggests they’re set up to disappoint.

Considering those trends, back PISTONS +6.5 (-110).

Over/Under

BET UNDER 217.5 (-110).

These teams play at among the slowest paces in the NBA. The Pistons rank 28th in tempo and the Knicks sit last (30th). Detroit is 1-4 O/U in its 5  games, having scored under 105 points in 3 games while allowing under 106 points 2 straight.

New York is 1-2 O/U in its last 3 games and has allowed 107 or fewer points in 2 of its last 3. With the style of play in mind for both sides, back UNDER 217.5 (-110).

Summer League: New York Knicks vs. Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s New York Knicks vs. Detroit Pistons odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The New York Knicks battle the Detroit Pistons Friday at the 2024 NBA Las Vegas Summer League. Tip from Cox Pavilion is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Knicks vs. Pistons odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Knicks have played 3 Las Vegas Summer League games so far and are 1-2. They are coming off one of the most thrilling games of the event, a 106-105 victory Wednesday over the Sacramento Kings in which 2nd-round pick  G Tyler Kolek dropped 21 points and 8 assists. New York has a 4-point loss to the Charlotte Hornets and 7-point loss to the Brooklyn Nets on its resume as well.

The Pistons are 2-1 through their 1st 3 games. They started off the event with a 13-point loss to the Philadelphia 76ers and have bounced back with a 14-point win over the Houston Rockets and an 8-point win over the Chicago Bulls. No. 5 overall pick Ron Holland II is the most notable name on the team and scored 17 points against Chicago on 7-of-20 shooting on Tuesday.

Knicks at Pistons picks and predictions

Prediction

Pistons 93, Knicks 88

Moneyline

PASS.

The Pistons are just too expensive to take on the money, but they have the better top-to-bottom roster and should be able to cover the spread. Look there for value.

Against the spread

BET PISTONS -2.5 (-112).

The Knicks defense has been one of the worst in the summer league, allowing 90 or more points in all 3 games. The Pistons, who have scored 80 or more in all 3, should be able to dominate offensively. Detroit has also been great at generating free throws, shooting the 7th-most per game (25.3) in the event.

While New York has been strong from 3-point range, it only shoots the 7th-fewest per game. Couple the different styles in play, and take the team that has scored more consistently and has defended more competently. Take PISTONS -2.5 (-112).

Over/Under

BET OVER 179.5 (-110).

The Knicks defense has been atrocious, but their offense has been one of the most efficient. They are averaging 93.7 points per game and shooting 48.8% from the field, having allowed 94, 92 and 105 on the defensive end.

The Pistons should be able to find their rhythm against a loose defense. The Knicks style of play lead to high-scoring games. With that in mind, back OVER 179.5 (-110).

Knicks at Pistons picks and predictions

Prediction

Knicks 111, Pistons 103

Moneyline

Even though I expect the Knicks to win on the road, PASS on the moneyline in this contest. Taking New York (-200) straight up wouldn’t be worth the risk considering the lack of a profit you’d make if it secures a victory.

Against the spread

KNICKS -4.5 (-120) appears to be the ideal choice in this game given the current state of these squads. The entire starting lineup for the Pistons is either out or questionable to play Tuesday.

The Knicks are 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 matchups with the Pistons. On top of that, New York is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 road meetings with Detroit.

Over/Under

With the Pistons likely being shorthanded, UNDER 225.5 (-115) is where I’m leaning in this game. While New York is 15th in offensive rating, Detroit is 25th.

The Knicks have gone Under in each of their last 5 games against a team with a losing home record. The Under is also 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between the Knicks and the Pistons in Detroit.

New York Knicks at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s New York Knicks at Detroit Pistons NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Knicks (24-25) travel to the Motor City Saturday for an 8 p.m. ET game against the Detroit Pistons (14-34) at Little Caesars Arena. Below, we analyze the Knicks-Pistons odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

New York has slid to seventh in the Eastern Conference after losing three in a row (0-3 against the spread), including a 99-96 beatdown at home Friday by the Dallas Mavericks. Prior to this skid, the Knicks won three straight and are now 4-4 straight up in their last eight games (3-4-1 ATS).

Detroit boat raced the Washington Wizards 120-91 as a 1-point home favorite Thursday for its second win in the past three games. The Pistons are just 3-5 straight up in their last eight games but covered the spread in five of those contests.

The Knicks are 2-0 straight up and ATS in the season series with the Pistons—winning both games by double digits—heading into their final regular-season meeting.

Knicks at Pistons: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Knicks 102, Pistons 96

Money line (ML)

This is a game the KNICKS (-125) need as they fight for playoff positioning in the East and have back-to-back road games against the Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics coming up next week.

That being said, this is clearly a “trap game” for New York, which explains this game’s pricing.

The Knicks hammered the Pistons earlier this season and nearly 90% of the money bet is on New York (according to Pregame.com), yet bookmakers are making the Knicks’ money line cheaper.

It makes sense given how poorly New York has played recently, but the Knicks have been a great bet this season against bad teams.

According to CleaningTheGlass.com, which removes garbage time stats, New York is 15-7 overall with the third-best ATS margin (plus-5.1 points) vs. teams in the bottom-10 of points per 100 possessions differential.

“LEAN” KNICKS (-125) for a half-unit.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS since New York’s money line is only 10 cents on the dollar more expensive than Knicks -1.5 (-115).

Over/Under (O/U)

This Knicks-Pistons game should be a “rock fight” as Detroit and New York are tied for 23rd in offensive rating.

Also, bookmakers know how bad New York’s offense is and how locked in defensively the Knicks are under first-year head coach Tom Thibodeau.

Still, New York is 18-31 O/U for the season and has played to the Under in eight of its last nine games.

BET UNDER 201.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Detroit Pistons at New York Knicks odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Detroit Pistons at New York Knicks NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Knicks (18-18) host the Detroit Pistons (10-25) Thursday at Madison Square Garden for a 7:30 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we analyze the Pistons-Knicks odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Detroit snapped its 3-game losing streak last night in a 129-105 win over the Toronto Raptors as 7.5-point road underdogs in a game that was marred by COVID-related absences. The Pistons are 2-6 overall and 3-5 ATS in their previous eight games.

The Knicks were crushed by the San Antonio Spurs 119-93 Tuesday, which ended New York’s 3-game win streak. However, newly acquired Knicks guard Derrick Rose missed Tuesday’s game because of an inconclusive COVID-19 test.

Otherwise, New York is 7-3 overall and ATS in the last 10 games, including 109-90 beatdown of Detroit Sunday as 1-point road favorites. The Knicks have won and covered three straight against the Pistons.

Pistons at Knicks: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Knicks 112, Pistons 98

Money line (ML)

PASS because New York is the right side, but the Knicks (-275) is too steep of a price for a straight-up win.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The KNICKS -7 (-110) pummeled the Pistons last weekend, and Detroit’s leading scorer, and Most Improved Player frontrunner, Jerami Grant had a team-high 21 points on an inefficient 7-for-19 shooting performance.

Well, Grant is questionable, and if I’m reading the tea leaves, I’d assume the Pistons are going to sit Grant out their final game before the All-Star Break because what’s the incentive of playing him?

Detroit’s season is all but over while New York is flirting with a postseason berth and has to pile up wins against losing teams because of a tough second-half schedule.

Also, Grant’s absence would mean the Pistons will be without three starters, and they have far bigger injury concerns than the Knicks, who are deeper in the first place.

TAKE KNICKS -7 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

Slight lean on the OVER 207.5 (-110) because the market has steamed this total down from a 210.5-point opener, which is a half-point off of my projected total.

According to Pregame.com, nearly 90% of the cash is on the Under in this spot and the market isn’t moving on new information the oddsmakers don’t have. Over the long haul, if you fade 90% of the betting public, you’ll win money as a sports gambler.

BET OVER 207.5 (-110) for a half-unit.
