Jets uniforms ranked NFL’s worst by Complex

Complex Sports has the Jets’ new uniforms ranked dead last in their ranking of all 32 new NFL uniforms for the 2020 season.

While the Jets’ new uniforms took some heat at the time of their unveiling, they aren’t as bad as some of the more recent releases this offseason. Compared to the Rams and Falcons uniform redesigns, the Jets got pretty lucky with their new look.

At least that’s this particular website’s opinion.

However, those at Complex Sports don’t agree. They ranked all 32 NFL uniforms for the 2020 season and the Jets came in dead last.

Here’s Complex Sports explanation for the Jets spot in their rankings:

The Jets have the worst uniforms in the NFL and it ain’t even close. Their new look, which debuted last season and should be compared to something you’d see up in the CFL or Saturdays in Conference USA, is unassailably awful. Seriously, the Jets are dressed like a bunch of amateurs every week except when they wear their all-black uniforms. That’s when they look like complete clowns since black isn’t in their color scheme. Never has been. Never should be. Nike can’t redesign this disaster fast enough.

Now, the Jets’ uniforms don’t stand a chance against those of the Chargers, Raiders, Saints, Steelers and Cowboys, which are ranked 1-5, respectively, on Complex’s list. Still, it’s a massive stretch to call the Jets’ uniforms the worst in the NFL. At worst, they should be ranked between 15 and 20.

When New York released its new uniforms in April 2019, it was met with a bit of disappointment from fans and critics alike after months of anticipation. Some viewed the build-up and marketing on social media to be better than the actual release of the uniforms themselves.

The Jets went with a new green called “Gotham,” with the two primary uniforms being green tops with white bottoms and white tops with green bottoms. For the first time in franchise history, the Jets released all-black alternate uniforms. Those were the uniforms met with the most opposition, but after a full season of wearing them, they began to grow on critics. The all-black design is a nice, clean look only worn three times a season and they’re perfect for primetime games under the lights.

New York’s uniforms should be looked at like the middle of the road uniforms they are. It is not an upgrade over the old look, which was an ode to the classic throwbacks worn by the Jets’ 1968 Super Bowl-winning team. Instead, these new uniforms try to capture the Jets of the late 70s to early 90s when kelly green was in fashion.

Despite what Complex says about the uniforms, the Jets can take comfort in the fact that they don’t have the worst in the NFL. A few teams ended that conversation pretty quickly this offseason.

Ex-Jets LB Darron Lee finds it ironic he never wore new uniforms he advocated for

Ex-Jets linebacker Darron Lee finds it ironic that he never wore new uniforms he campaigned for.

On the same day, Mike Maccagnan was fired and Adam Gase received the interim general manager title, the latter shipped Darron Lee to Kansas City for a sixth-round pick.

The Jets’ first-round pick in 2016 was sent packing with a logjam at inside linebacker. New York signed C.J. Mosley to pair with Avery Williamson, drafted Blake Cashman and added Neville Hewitt as depth.

Lee was traded to the Chiefs nearly a month after the Jets received new uniforms. Besides Jamal Adams, Lee was the biggest proponent of a Gang Green makeover, often taking to Twitter to advocate for an apparel change.

A fan of what New York ended up with, Lee never got the chance to don any of the three new uniforms.

“I never got to wear them. Talk about irony,” Lee told the New York Post. “I loved them. I’m glad the fans love them. I’m glad they can enjoy them.”

Regardless, Lee added that he has no hard feelings toward the Jets. They gave him an opportunity to win a Super Bowl despite not being a huge contributor to the Chiefs’ winning efforts.

Though he played in all 16 games in 2019, Lee rarely saw the field. He went from a starting-caliber linebacker in New York to being relegated to special teams duties in Kansas City. He started two games in the regular season and has been inactive for the first two rounds of the playoffs. That will likely be the case Sunday against the 49ers.

Still, Lee has a chance to win a ring while wearing red and yellow. That’s far more than he would have been able to say had he worn the Jets’ new uniforms in 2019.
