The Saints are coming off a bye week following a 33-22 win at the Washington Football Team in Week 5. After losing at the Carolina Panthers in Week 2, New Orleans has won and covered its past two games on the road.

With QB Russell Wilson (finger) on the injured reserve list, the Seahawks had backup QB Geno Smith start his first game of the season in Week 7’s Sunday Night Football game at the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Seahawks lost 23-20 in overtime but covered the spread as 5.5-point underdogs and cashed Under tickets a fourth consecutive time.

The Saints (-220) will cost you more than two times your potential return. That’s just a little too expensive, especially for a road team in front of a boisterous and rowdy home crowd notorious for spurring on the home side.

AVOID and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

The SAINTS -4.5 (-105) are worth playing lightly. Even though Smith has held down the fort and kept the Seahawks in games lately, mistakes late in contests against the Los Angeles Rams and the Steelers have cost Seattle dearly.

If Seattle looks to take pressure off of Smith in the run game, it’s likely not going to happen. New Orleans ranks second in the NFL with just 79.0 rushing yards per game allowed, and it’s fourth in the league with just 18.2 PPG allowed.

Over/Under

The UNDER 41.5 (-110) is the play as the Saints have a suffocating defense, and the Seahawks are using their backup quarterback. The scoring drives will be few and far between as the defenses show out.

The Saints rank 10th in the NFL with 125.8 rushing yards per game, and they’ll look to keep chewing up big chunks of real estate on the ground while running the clock at the same time. Under bettors love running teams.

The Saints had their bye in Week 6. New Orleans defeated the Washington Football Team 33-22 in Week 5. QB Jameis Winston has 12 touchdown passes and only three interceptions through five games and their defense is allowing the third-fewest points per game in the league at 18.2 per contest.

The Seahawks are coming off a 23-20 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday night in Week 6. They are without starting QB Russell Wilson for the next three-seven weeks as he recovers from finger surgery. The Seahawks find themselves in last place in the NFC West, four games out of first.

Saints at Seahawks head-to-head

The two teams have only played each other 16 times in their history, as the Seahawks were in the AFC until realignment in 2002. The two teams are an even 8-8 against one another, although the Saints won the last two matchups in 2016 and 2019. Prior to that, the Seahawks won three straight.

Winston is 1-1 in two career starts against the Seahawks, although those games as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Seahawks QB Geno Smith started for the New York Jets in 2013 against the Saints and picked up a 26-20 win. He had 115 passing yards and did not throw a touchdown pass or interception in that game.
