New Orleans Saints vs Atlanta Falcons Game Preview

Why New Orleans Saints Will Win

Where are the guys? Where’s the talent on Atlanta?

It’s an interesting mix of players full of youth and potential, but it might take a little bit.

There’s not going to be much of a Falcon running game to worry about when Marcus Mariota isn’t taking off, and the defense that allowed the fourth-most points in the NFL now gets a revamped Saint attack that added a – maybe – healthy Michael Thomas and Chris Olave to the receiving corps.

The defense has the secondary to clamp down on the mediocre Falcon receivers – at least until Drake London gets going – and again, there’s not enough of a running game to make up for it. However …

Week 1 CFN NFL Expert Picks

Why Atlanta Falcons Will Win

Don’t be stunned if Mariota is dangerous.

He’s got the experience and ability to at least keep the chains moving, and he’s going to have to pull a few rabbits out of the hat to keep things moving.

On the other side, the Falcons need to get the pass rush going right away. The Saint offensive front is questionable going into the season – it’s fine, but not amazing – and the running game might not be there if Jameis Winston isn’t finding ways to spread the short-range passing game around.

There’s one problem …

Week 1 NFL Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Atlanta isn’t really going to have much of a pass rush.

New Orleans might not be all that flashy, but it’ll be effective enough offensively to go along with a nasty defense that’s going to hammer down on anything Atlanta tries to do through the air.

The Falcons will have a few nice moments helped by three interceptions, but the offense won’t do enough to capitalize on the chances.

Why New Orleans Saints Will Win

The Saints were able to dominate the matchup a few weeks ago, allowing just three field goals in a 24-9 victory at home. Taysom Hill is doing just fine doing what he does at quarterback – he’s not going to be Aaron Rodgers, and that’s okay – and the defense continues to be dominant.

The Saints lead the NFL in both rushing scores and fewest rushing touchdowns allowed. It hasn’t given up more than 100 yards on the ground in the last six games and forced 13 takeaways in the last five.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Atlanta Falcons Will Win

The offense picked it back up fast after that clunker against the Saints.

As bad as the offense was two weeks ago, that’s how good it was in a dominant 43-6 win over the Raiders – and it was without Todd Gurley and Julio Jones.

The running game still isn’t likely to work, and there won’t be five takeaways, but the defense has seen Hill once – this might be like a baseball team seeing a pitcher the second time through the order – and Matt Ryan and the passing game need to be merely very good. The Saint defensive stats are skewed after playing Denver in last week’s disaster.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

QB Taysom Hill, New Orleans
So far, so good. He might not throw for enough yards to help you out, and he hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass so far, but in his two starts he has over 40 rising yards in each, and he ran for two touchdowns in both games. He’s the option now on the goal line – good for him, a killer for Alvin Kamara.

What’s Going To Happen

Atlanta will be better at home this time around. The New Orleans defense will still be an issue, and there still won’t be any running game, but the Falcons will make Hill throw – that will be a problem.

New Orleans will grind its way to a win, but it’ll be a tough fight.

Prediction

Saints 24, Falcons 20

Moneyline (?)

The Falcons (+220) are home underdogs but the number is lower than it should be following the Week 10 upset. The SAINTS (-278) are getting a higher number than they should.

Atlanta is just 1-4 at home and coming off a 35-22 embarrassment at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Saints are 4-1 on the road and they beat the Carolina Panthers 34-31 Sunday. Take the visitors, though a $10 bet for the outright win will return a profit of just $3.60.

Against the Spread (?)

The FALCONS (+6.5, –110) are being spotted a touchdown at home and the hook is key here as they’ll need to stay within six points for the cover. The Saints are 7-4 against the spread overall, but cover by an average of just 0.6 points per game.

Back the home side with a backdoor cover keeping them within six points in defeat.

Over/Under (?)

Take the UNDER 49.5 (-106). The number is the highest on the three-game Thursday slate. Each of the last two and four of the last five head-to-head meetings fell short of that number. New Orleans is 6-5 against the Over/Under but falls an average of 1.3 points shy of the projection. Atlanta is 4-7 and falls one point below the projections on average.

Saints-Falcons odds: New Orleans heavy favorite over Atlanta on Thanksgiving

The New Orleans Saints enter as the heavy favorite over the Atlanta Falcons during their Thanksgiving Week 13 NFL matchup.

[jwplayer 13LaLriA]

The New Orleans Saints (9-2) host the Atlanta Falcons (3-8) during Thanksgiving Day action of Week 13 of the NFL regular season. The game is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 28, at 8:20 p.m. ET at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and can be watched on NBC. The Saints, despite losing 26-9 to this Atlanta team just three games ago, enter as the very heavy favorite, according to odds from BetMGM.

The Saints (-278) are 6.5-point favorites against the spread (ATS) over the Falcons. New to sports betting? With a spread of -6.5, that means the Saints need to not only beat Atlanta, but they need to win by at least seven points for an ATS wager on them to cash.

Special NFL Thanksgiving Prop Bet!

BET $1, WIN $200 (in free bets) at BetMGM in New Jersey if any NFL team scores a touchdown Thursday, Nov. 28th, 2019. Bet now!

Feeling an upset? A $10 wager on the Falcons (+220) would pay $22 in profit should they win outright. Meanwhile, a $10 wager on the Saints to win outright returns a profit of $3.60.

The Over/Under on the Saints vs. Falcons game has been set at 49.5, which is the highest of all the Thanksgiving Day games, with a -110 price on both sides for this Week 13 NFL matchup.
