New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Jersey Devils (16-9-2) will travel across the Hudson River to face the New York Rangers (13-9-1) Monday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Devils vs. Rangers odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

This first meeting of the 2024-25 season between these Metropolitan Division rivals comes at a tumultuous time for the Rangers, who halted a 5-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens Saturday.

On the flip side, the visitors are surging in second place in the Metro, despite falling short 6-5 to the first-place Washington Capitals Saturday. The Devils’ elite power play (1st in NHL, 33.7%) gives them a major advantage coming into this crosstown clash.

Devils at Rangers projected goalies

Jacob Markstrom (11-6-1, 2.62 GAA, .902 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Igor Shesterkin (8-8-1, 2.93 GAA, .913 SV%, 1 SO)

Both starting goalies have been confirmed as of publication.

Shesterkin’s potentially historically important contract year has not done much for his case to receive the most lucrative goaltending contract in history. The Russian has seen at least 31 shot attempts across his past 4 starts, all losses (13 goals allowed, .917 SV%).

Markstrom has struggled in his past 5 games (.881 SV%) but has won 3 of them, in part by being helped by a defense that has allowed no more than 28 shots in a game over that window.

Oddly enough, they’ve both at times been outplayed by their backups, with the Devils’ Jake Allen (5-3-1, 2.70 GAA, .907 SV%) and the Rangers’ Jonathan Quick (5-1-0, 2.03, .936) stealing the spotlight often from the No. 1 names.

Devils at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Devils 4, Rangers 2

Moneyline

Given that this is a road trip, the Devils’ ML price is lucrative enough to wager. New Jersey’s brand of hockey has looked crisper than the home club’s, especially while holding the NHL’s best power-play attack.

Even though the Rangers hold the league’s 2nd-best penalty-kill unit (87.7%), I side with a red-hot power play from the visitors to be the difference.

BET DEVILS (-130).

Puck line/Against the spread

While both teams sit below .500 ATS (Devils 13-14, Rangers 9-14), the sharp bet would lean heavily on the aggressive Devils’ side due to their superior defense.

The Devils rank 3rd with a 9.64 Expected Goal Differential (EGD), according to Moneypuck, and hold upside with a -6.04 Goals Above Expected, the 8th-unluckiest rate. Expect that fortune to swing in their favor; the Rangers rank 20th in EGD (-2.26).

BET DEVILS -1.5 (+200).

Over/Under

The Rangers have scored 4+ goals just twice in their past 10 games. Given that the Devils’ pressure should work well against this struggling New York offense, it’s difficult to trust the Devils to carry the load to top 6.5 goals on their own.

The listed prediction says the total will fall just short. Stick with that guidance.

BET UNDER 6.5 GOALS (-110).

New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The New Jersey Devils (31-29-4) head across the river to take on the New York Rangers (41-18-4) Monday. Puck drop at Madison Square Garden is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (NHL Network). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Devils vs. Rangers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Devils have become a longshot to make the playoffs (+560 at FanDuel Sportsbook) after dropping 4 of their last 5 games. New Jersey was defeated 4-2 by the Carolina Hurricanes this past Saturday, failing to score on 4 power play opportunities. LW Jesper Bratt, who leads the team in goals (22) after RW Tyler Toffoli was traded to the Winnipeg Jets, has not found the back of the net in 5 straight games.

The Rangers are +500 at FanDuel Sportsbook to win the Eastern Conference Final, behind the Florida Panthers (+290) and Carolina (+350). New York blanked the St. Louis Blues 4-0 at home Saturday as G Igor Shesterkin earned his 13th career shutout in his 200th game. LW Artemi Panarin enters Monday with 87 points, 5th-most in the NHL.

This is the 3rd game this season between these rivals. The Blueshirts prevailed in both meetings in Newark, earning a 5-3 victory Nov. 18 followed up by a 5-1 win Feb. 22.

Devils at Rangers projected goalies

Kaapo Kahkonen (6-20-3, 3.81 GAA, .895 SV%) vs. Jonathan Quick (13-5-2, 2.45 GAA, .916 SV%, 2 SO)

Kahkonen is projected to make his 1st start in a Devils uniform as G Jake Allen, also acquired close to the deadline, deals with visa issues. Kahkonen acknowledged his tough situation in San Jose, as his GAA is the highest among goalies who have played at least 30 games this season.

The last time Quick saw the ice was back on Feb. 25 in a 4-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Among goalies who have played at least 20 games, the 38-year-old future Hall of Famer sports the highest high-danger save percentage in the league (.857).

Prediction

Rangers 4, Devils 2

Moneyline

BET RANGERS ML (-138).

The Devils have blocked the 4th-fewest shots in the league this year, which could be problematic if they go down a man, as the Rangers feature the 5th-best power play unit (25.87 PP%). It may not offer a ton of solace after last year’s early exit against this young Devils team, but the Rangers should skate to a 3rd straight win over New Jersey.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

Rangers D Adam Fox is dealing with an illness and is considered a game-time decision, which could hinder a New York blueline already without D Jacob Trouba. Expect New Jersey, which has just a 6.6% chance to make the playoffs according to Moneypuck.com, to put up a brave fight but fall just short at MSG.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6.5 (-120).

Expect New Jersey’s power play to continue to struggle if it gets the man advantage, as the Rangers boast the 5th-best penalty kill (83.33 PK%). With Bratt struggling offensively and the team’s leading goal scorer gone, C Jack Hughes may have a difficult time generating a ton of good opportunities to put the puck past Quick.

New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers Game 6 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s New Jersey Devils vs. New York Rangers Game 6 odds and lines, with expert NHL picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Jersey Devils and the New York Rangers face each other in Game 6 in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals Saturday. The Devils lead the series 3-2. Puck drop from Madison Square Garden is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ABC/ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Devils vs. Rangers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Rangers posted victories in the first 2 games on the road, scoring 10 total goals in the pair of wins. The New York offense has dried up in Games 3 through 5, posting a total of just 2 goals.

The Devils allowed the 10 goals in the first 2 in the series, but head coach Lindy Ruff switched up his goaltender from Vitek Vanecek to rookie Akira Schmid. The tendy change has been golden, as New Jersey has allowed just 2 total goals in the past 3 games, while lightning the lamp 9 times.

The Over cashed in the first 2 games of the series, but the Under has connected in each of the previous 3 outings. The underdog is 4-1 in this series, with the favorite cashing only in Game 5.

Devils at Rangers projected goalies

Akira Schmid (9-5-2, 2.13 GAA, .922 SV%, 1 SO – regular season) vs. Igor Shesterkin (37-13-8, 2.48 GAA, .916 SV%, 3 SO – regular season)

Schmid has gone from an unknown rookie to most casual fans, to the next potential star goaltender in just 3 games. He stopped all 23 shots he faced in a pivotal Game 5, posting his first-ever NHL playoff shutout, and just the 2nd one of his career.

Shesterkin allowed 3 goals on 42 shots in Game 5, but he has been getting zero offensive support in the past 3 outings. He is 2-3-0 despite a sparkling 1.75 GAA and .938 SV% in this series.

Devils at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 3, Devils 2

Moneyline

The RANGERS (-125) are a solid play on home ice, as New York looks to stop the bleeding in front of its raucous crowd.

Schmid has been a breath of fresh air for the Devils (+105), but I just don’t trust a rookie in an elimination game against an experienced tendy like Shesterkin. The former Vezina Trophy winner will lift the Rangers, single-handedly, to a victory in this game, staving off elimination for now.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Devils +1.5 (-250) means you need to risk 2 1/2 times your potential return. That’s just too much risk for not enough reward. Over the long term, it’s a poor betting strategy, even as part of a multi-team parlay ticket.

PASS.

Over/Under

The UNDER 5.5 (-130) is the lean, as Shesterkin has been on fire for the entire series, and Schmid has been a brick wall since he has entered the chat room.

The Under is 5-2 in the past 7 Conference Quarterfinals games for New Jersey, including 3-0 in the past 3 outings.

The Under is 4-0 in the past 4 games at MSG for the Rangers, too, while cashing at a 9-2-1 clip in the past 12 games when playing on a day of rest, too.

New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Jersey Devils (21-5-1) and New York Rangers (14-10-5) meet Monday at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (NHL Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Devils vs. Rangers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Devils lost 6-4 at home Friday against the New York Islanders, and New Jersey is 2-1-1 in its last 4 games. That’s still pretty good, but New Jersey is starting to show some signs of cooling a little after its 13-game winning streak.

New York is on a 3-game win streak, outscoring the opposition 13-6 during the span, including road wins over the Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights. The Rangers lost 5-3 loss in their last meeting at MSG against the Devils on Nov. 28.

Devils at Rangers projected goalies

Vitek Vanecek (12-2-1, 2.30 GAA, .916 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Igor Shesterkin (13-4-4, 2.50 GAA, .917 SV%, 1 SO)

Vanecek is starting to show some cracks in the armor, as he has allowed 3 or more goals in 3 of his last 4 outings. That includes his 35-save, 5-3 win against the Rangers Nov. 28 at MSG. He is 1-0-1 with a 3.32 GAA and .877 SV% in 3 starts in December.

Shesterkin is on a 3-game win streak, and he has allowed just 2 total goals in the last 2 outings in Las Vegas and Denver. In 4 December starts, Shesterkin has a 3-0-1 record, 2.17 GAA and .933 SV%.

Devils at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 3, Devils 2

Moneyline

The RANGERS (-110) are a solid play as short ‘dogs at home. Yes, the Devils have been on fire lately, but New York has actually been playing better since flipping the calendar from November to December.

New Jersey has won a ridiculous 11 in a row on the road, while cashing in 10 of the last 12 against Eastern Conference teams. However, the Rangers are 9-2 in the last 11 meetings against the Devils, while going 4-1 in the last 5 meetings at MSG.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Rangers +1.5 (-280) will cost you almost 3 times your potential return, which is just too much if you require some insurance. If you like New York, just play it straight up on the puck line for a much better value.

PASS.

Over/Under

UNDER 5.5 (+115) at plus money is worth a roll of the dice. Vanecek has been playing well most of the season, while Shesterkin has been on fire lately, showing signs of his Vezina form.

While the Over has dominated in recent seasons between these rivals, the Under is 9-3-1 in the last 13 games overall for the Devils, and 5-1 in the last 6 on the road. The Under is 12-4 in the last 16 for the Rangers against Eastern Conference foes, too.

Vitek Vanecek (10-2-0, 2.05 GAA, .923 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Igor Shesterkin (10-3-3, 2.49 GAA, .914 SV%, 1 SO)

Vanecek let in just 1 goal on 38 shots in a victory against the Capitals last time out Saturday, and he has won 10 of his last 11 appearances. He has also allowed 2 or fewer goals in each of his last 5 starts.

Shesterkin allowed 4 goals on 32 shots in a loss against the Edmonton Oilers, snapping a 4-0-1 run in his previous 5 outings. He has dropped 2 of his last 3 outings against Eastern Conference foes.

Devils at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Devils 3, Rangers 2

Moneyline

The DEVILS (-110) have been on fire this season, and showing no signs of a prolonged skid.

It has checked off all the boxes for success, posting 3.7 goals per game (GPG) to rank 3rd in the NHL, while taking 36.7 shots on goal (SOG) per outing, ranking 2nd in the league. The only thing the Devils do not do well is hit on the power play, cashing in at just 19.7%, good for 23rd.

Defensively, New Jersey is 2nd in the NHL with just 2.2 GPG allowed, while ranking 4th on the penalty kill at 82.4%.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Devils +1.5 (-210) will cost you more than twice your potential return, and that’s just too expensive.

AVOID.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-135) might be the best play on the board.

We covered New Jersey’s numbers, but New York ranks just 18th with 3.0 GPG, and 8th with 2.8 GPG allowed. It’s especially solid on the penalty kill at 80.3%, ranking 11th in the league. With solid goaltenders at each end, we’ll have low-scoring game.

New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Jersey Devils (19-30-5) travel to meet the New York Rangers (34-15-5) Friday at Madison Square Garden. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Devils vs. Rangers odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Devils have alternated wins and losses over their last four games, and they enter this affair off a 4-3 loss at the Columbus Blue Jackets Tuesday. Jersey is 4-6 in its last 10 games and is next-to-last in the Metropolitan division.

The Rangers are coming off a quality 5-3 win over the St. Louis Blues Wednesday, which snapped a two-game slide. They are in third place in the division and trail the Carolina Hurricanes by 6 points.

  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: +100 | U: -125)

Devils at Rangers projected goalies

Nico Daws (3-2-0, 2.79 GAA, .909 SV%) vs. Igor Shesterkin (26-6-3, 1.98 GAA, .940 SV%, 3 SO)

Daws came back to earth by allowing four 4 on 31 shots against the Blue Jackets Tuesday. He had rolled with 73 saves on 76 shots in the previous two games. This will be a big test for the 21-year-old German.

Shesterkin was touched for 3 goals in his last outing, which hasn’t happened since January. Talk is ramping up that he’s not only the leading Vezina award chase, but he’s a front runner for the Hart trophy as well. Shesterkin dominated the Devils last season with a 4-1-0 record, 1.54 GAA and .948 SV%.

Devils at Rangers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 4, Devils 2

Money line

The RANGERS (-180) feel safe here at the lofty price tag. New York won the first meeting 4-3 in November via a shootout, and it has won seven in a row against its neighbors.

Shesterkin is also likely to be angry and motivated after allowing 3 goals in his last game to raise his league-leading 1.98 GAA.

Against the spread

The RANGERS -1.5 (+140) is a little risky since the offense has only carried them to three 2-goal wins in the last 10 outings. They’ll likely need an empty-netter late, but it’s worth a half-unit try.

Over/Under

Lean slightly to the UNDER 6.5 (-125) here.

The Under is 24-7-1 in the Rangers’ last 32 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400. The Under is 5-1 in the Rangers’ last six as a home favorite; 5-0 in the Rangers’ last five against the Eastern Conference; and 4-0 in the Rangers’ last four games following a win.

Analyzing Sunday’s New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Devils are coming off a 5-2 beating from the visiting Boston Bruins Saturday in the front end of the back-to-back, snapping a three-game win streak. New Jersey has scored two or more goals in five straight outings.

The Rangers topped the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-3 on the road Saturday. New York has won its last two at home, including a 4-3 win against the Florida Panthers Monday, dealing the Panthers their first regulation loss.

Devils at Rangers projected goalies

Mackenzie Blackwood (2-0-1, 2.00 GAA, .945 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (1-1-1, 4.11 GAA, .865 SV%)

Blackwood has won back-to-back starts, including a 42-save shutout Thursday against the visiting New York Islanders. He topped the Florida Panthers, stopping 35 of the 38 shots he faced in a 7-3 win, in the start prior.

Georgiev has struggled, while Igor Shesterkin has been red-hot. Head coach Gerard Gallant said Shesterkin was being considered for both starts this weekend, but after the red-hot goalie was bowled over in the third period in Columbus, the plan may change.

Devils at Rangers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Devils 4, Rangers 3

Money line

The DEVILS (+130) have won just twice in their last seven games when playing on no rest, but in a Blackwood-Georgiev goaltender matchup, the arrow is pointing squarely in favor of the visitors.

While the Devils have dropped six in a row against the Rangers, the road team has connected in seven of the last nine meetings in this series.

Against the spread

The Devils +1.5 (-210) will cost you more than two times your potential return for the insurance, and that’s not a recommended play. If you like New Jersey, just play it straight up.

PASS.

Over/Under

The OVER 5.5 (-130) is the top option on the board in this game. When these two Metro NY teams hook up, a lot of goals are sure to follow. The Over is 17-5-5 in the past 27 meetings in this series, including 7-1-1 in the previous nine at MSG.

Blackwood is expected to start Tuesday’s game after giving his team a chance to win in each of the first two outings against the Bruins. He was on the short end of a 3-2 shootout loss Thursday, stopping 35 shots, and he helped his team to a 2-1 win in overtime against the B’s on Saturday in Newark. This will be his first road start of the young season.

Georgiev turned aside all 23 of the shots he faced Saturday against the Islanders in a 5-0 victory, his first career shutout. He went 1-1-0 with a 2.05 GAA, .943 SV% and one shutout against the Devils last season.

Devils at Rangers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Rangers 3, Devils 2

Money line (ML)

The RANGERS (-150) are a good play on home ice with Georgiev in the crease. He looked sharp in his first outing, and he was hard on the Devils last season, too. In addition, the Devils are just 1-4 in their past five skates at MSG, with the favorite 8-3 in the previous 11 overall in the series.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Rangers -1.5 (+180) have the potential to score goals in bunches, but Blackwood has been tremendous in the crease and a win by more than one goal is a risky proposition. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 6 (-120) is the way to go. Yes, the sample size is super slim, but Georgiev pitched a shutout in his first start of the season, and he had a shutout last season in two starts against the Devils. And Blackwood is letting in fewer than two goals per game. Plus, the Under 5-1 in their final six as a road ‘dog last season, while the Under is 6-1 in the past seven for the Blueshirts as a home favorite.
