New Jersey Devils at Boston Bruins odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s New Jersey Devils at Boston Bruins odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Jersey Devils (24-37-5) face off against the Boston Bruins (41-20-5) Thursday at TD Garden. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Devils vs. Bruins odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Devils come to town on the heels of a 3-2 shootout win over the Montreal Canadiens Sunday. They were heavily favored, and the game shouldn’t have been that close. C Jack Hughes has led the charge with 5 goals and 2 assists in the last 4 games.

The Bruins were throttled 6-4 Tuesday by the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs. RW David Pastrnak scored his team-leading 38th goal of the season. He has 5 goals and 2 assists in the last 3 games.

Devils at Bruins odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 3:18 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Devils +205 (bet $100 to win $205) | Bruins -260 (bet $260 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Devils +1.5 (-112) | Bruins -1.5 (-108)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -108 | U: -112)

Devils at Bruins projected goalies

Nico Daws (8-8-0, 3.05 GAA, .900 SV%) vs. Linus Ullmark (20-9-2, 2.70 GAA, .909 SV%)

Daws was solid in his last start, stopping 31 of 33 shots in the Montreal win. It was a positive performance after allowing 4 goals apiece in 4 of his 5 previous games. This will be Daws’ first matchup against the Bruins.

Ullmark came on in relief Tuesday’s Toronto loss, and stopped all 7 shots he faced. He won his previous 3 starts and allowed an average of 2.0 goals in the stretch. He beat the Devils in January, stopping 23 of the 26 shots in a 5-3 home victory.

Devils at Bruins odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 4, Devils 3

Money line

The Bruins are heavily favored here — and rightly so. I like Boston in this spot.

C Patrice Bergeron has been quiet lately, and he’s due to break out down the stretch. However, with an ML price of -260, there’s no value here outside of packaging Boston in a parlay.

PASS.

Against the spread

Boston is an awful puck-line team at home as they’re 8-25. The Devils are 16-17 ATS on the road and 31-35 ATS overall.

Three of New Jersey’s last 6 losses have been by 1 goal, and the price isn’t too bad here.

Let’s go with DEVILS +1.5 (-112).

Over/Under

There are some trends leaning to an Over.

The Bruins have been decent the last 10 games with 3.3 goals per contest. The Devils are right there with them at 3.2 goals per game.

Both of their two earlier meetings this season cashed Over tickets.

The Over is 6-1 in the Devils’ last 7 games as underdogs.

The Over is 6-1-1 in the Bruins’ last 8 against Metropolitan opponents.

Let’s slightly LEAN OVER 6.5 (-108).

New Jersey Devils at Boston Bruins odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s New Jersey Devils at Boston Bruins NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New Jersey Devils (13-16-4) play the second of a two-game set on the road against the Boston Bruins (17-9-5) Tuesday with a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at TD Garden. Below, we analyze the Devils-Bruins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Devils at Bruins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:40 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Devils +160 (bet $100 to win $160) | Bruins -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Devils +1.5 (-185) | Bruins -1.5 (+150)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +115 | U: -140)

Devils at Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Mackenzie Blackwood (9-9-1, 2.82 GAA, .911 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Jaroslav Halak (7-5-3, 2.17 GAA, .919 SV%, 2 SO)

Blackwood was spectacular in Sunday’s game turning aside all 40 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season. It’s the second time he has had a shutout with 40 or more saves before turning 25 years old, and just two goalies have had more in the past 40 years. He has come alive lately with four wins in the past five outings.

Halak was the hard-luck loser in that 1-0 setback, turning aside 28 of the 29 shots he faced. He was beaten by only Kyle Palmieri. He has managed just three wins in the month of March in eight outings, with one loss in a shootout and one in overtime. The B’s have had a power outage in his games lately, providing just 23 goals of offensive support across his past 11 starts dating back to Feb. 12.

Devils at Bruins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Bruins 3, Devils 1

Money line (ML)

The BRUINS (-190) are a little more expensive than I like to play on a money line bet, and the fact they’re 0-4-1 against the Devils (+160) this season makes it even riskier. But the B’s are better than they have shown, and they’ll get it done against Blackwood and the Devils.

Boston also has not had an even-strength goal in five outings against New Jersey this season, and that’s certainly bound to change as well. It’s surprising it has lasted this long.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The BRUINS -1.5 (+150) are worth playing lightly, again, because they are due. In six of the past seven games they have won dating back to Feb. 21, the B’s have also covered the puck line. Roll the dice on Boston.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (-140) is worth a look, although it will cost you a little extra juice. The Under easily hit in Sunday’s matchup, and the Under is now an amazing 11-1-1 across the past 13 games for Boston. The Under is also 5-0 in the previous five meetings with the Devils this season, including a pair of 1-0 losses in the past two battles.

New Jersey Devils at Boston Bruins odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s New Jersey Devils at Boston Bruins NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New Jersey Devils (12-16-4) begin a two-game road set against the Boston Bruins (17-8-5) Sunday at TD Garden. Puck drop will be shortly after 5:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Devils-Bruins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Bruins and Devils are fourth and seventh, respectively, in the East Division but New Jersey leads the head-to-head season series 3-1 with the most recent victory being by a 1-0 score March 7 at TD Garden.

The Devils were just handed back-to-back losses by the Washington Capitals Thursday and Friday; they were outscored 8-3 in D.C. The Bruins have won three of their last four games, including a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres Saturday.

Devils at Bruins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 11:55 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Devils +170 (bet $100 to win $170) | Bruins -200 (bet $200 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Devils +1.5 (-155) | Bruins -1.5 (+125)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Devils at Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Mackenzie Blackwood (8-9-1, .904 SV%, 2.98 GAA) vs. Jaroslav Halak (7-4-3, .915 SV%, 2.25 GAA)

Blackwood allowed 4 goals on 22 shots in Thursday’s loss to the Capitals. It snapped a personal three-game win streak in which he posted a .942 SV%. He has faced Boston three times this season and is 2-0-1 with just 5 goals allowed on 92 shots.

Halak last played Thursday and allowed 4 goals on 21 shots in an overtime loss to the New York Islanders. He has played an increased role this month with Tuukka Rask sidelined and has posted a .926 save percentage and 2.08 goals against average over seven games while going 3-2-2.

Devils at Bruins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Devils 2, Bruins 1

Money line (ML)

The DEVILS (+170) are worth a shot at plus-money with the lead in the season series and with the Bruins on the second half of a back-to-back.

Blackwood will shake off the Thursday loss and return to the form of his recent win streak against a Bruins squad he has held at bay this season. Fatigue is a growing concern for Halak, who has played as many games this month as he did in January and February combined.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The DEVILS +1.5 (-155) offer a much better return for the outright upset, but they also carry enough value with the goal of insurance in the event of a loss.

Four of their last seven losses were played within a single-goal margin, and their one loss against Boston this season went to a shootout.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (-105) is the top play in this game.

Both starting goalies have played well in the season series and all four head-to-head games thus far played to a total of 5 or fewer goals.

New Jersey Devils at Boston Bruins odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s New Jersey Devils at Boston Bruins NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New Jersey Devils (7-11-2) travel to meet the Boston Bruins (13-5-3) Sunday for a 5 p.m. ET puck drop at TD Garden. Below, we analyze the Devils-Bruins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Devils at Bruins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Devils +200 (bet $100 to win $200) | Bruins -250 (bet $250 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Devils +1.5 (-145) | Bruins -1.5 (+120)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +100 | U: -120)

Devils at Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Aaron Dell (0-2-0, 3.72 GAA, .877 SV%) vs. Tuukka Rask (8-3-2, 2.56 GAA, .902 SV%)

Dell has appeared in just three games with two starts. He was sharp in his second start against the New York Islanders Tuesday, allowing just 2 goals on 20 shots in a 2-1 loss at home.

Rask hasn’t faced the Devils since the Jan. 14 season-opener in Newark. He allowed 2 goals on 22 shots in a 3-2 shootout that evening. He has allowed 3 or fewer goals in three of his past four outings, and he was superb Wednesday in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Washington Capitals while stopping all but one of the 28 shots he faced in regulation and overtime. He is 3-0-1 with a 2.35 GAA and .903 SV% in four outings at TD Garden.

Devils at Bruins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Bruins 4, Devils 1

Money line (ML)

A straight bet on the Bruins (-250) will cost you two and a half times your potential return. While backing the B’s with Rask between the pipes seems like a sure thing, over the long haul it is a losing betting strategy or everyone would be doing it.

PASS.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The better value is backing the BRUINS -1.5 (+120) to win by at least 2 goals at plus-money. The B’s covered the puck line easily in a 5-1 thrashing of Washington Friday, and they have covered the puck line in each of their last three victories after four straight one-goal wins from Feb. 3-12.

On the flip side, the Devils have lost each of their past two outings by at least 2 goals, and four of their past six setbacks have been by 2 or more goals.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (-120) is the play in Boston home games, going 4-1-1 in the past six appearances for the B’s at TD Garden. The Under is also 3-0 in the previous three meetings between these combatants this season.

New Jersey Devils at Boston Bruins odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s New Jersey Devils at Boston Bruins NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New Jersey Devils (5-3-2) visit the Boston Bruins (10-2-2) Thursday for a 7 p.m. ET puck drop. Below we analyze the Devils-Bruins NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Devils at Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Mackenzie Blackwood (3-0-1, 1.92 GAA, .948 SV%) vs. Tuukka Rask (6-2-1, 2.51 GAA, .906 SV%)

Blackwood returned to the crease Tuesday for the first time in nearly a month due to COVID-19. He picked up right where he left off, stopping 37 of the 39 shots he faced in a 5-2 win at Madison Square Garden against the Rangers. He’ll get a much bigger test on the road against the B’s. It will be his third appearance against Boston, and he handled himself well in both previous outings. He allowed two goals on 37 shots in a 3-2 shootout loss Jan. 14, and he stopped 27 of 28 shots in a 2-1 overtime victory Jan. 16.

Rask has faced the Devils once this season, stopping 20 of 22 shots in the 3-2 shootout win opposite Blackwood Jan. 14 in Newark, N.J. Rask saw his three-game win streak snapped last time out at N.Y. Islanders, yielding four goals on 42 shots.

Devils at Bruins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Bruins 3, Devils 2

Money line (ML)

The Bruins (-225) will cost you more than two times your potential return. While that looks like a good play on paper for the red-hot B’s, the Devils (+190) played them tough in each of the two previous outings. It’s risky business, so look to the spread instead. PASS.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The DEVILS +1.5 (-150) are actually a pretty decent play on the puck like. Rarely, if ever, do I suggest the underdog, but New Jersey has played two one-goal games against the B’s so far. And each of Boston’s past four victories have been by just one goal, so consider betting New Jersey lightly plus a goal-and-a-half.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (-110) is the way to be in this outing. Both of the previous outings, with Blackwood in the crease, hit the Under. The teams combined for just eight total goals in the first two games in this series. Look for Rask and Blackwood to toss up plenty of donuts in this one, too.
