5 big takeaways from Patriots’ season-ending 17-3 loss to Jets

Here are 5 big takeaways from what may have been Bill Belichick’s final game with the Patriots

In what very well may have been Bill Belichick’s final game leading the team, the New England Patriots lost to the New York Jets in Foxborough on Sunday for the first time in 15 matchups between the two teams.

Snowy and windy conditions throughout led to the kind of old-school football that Belichick would likely revel in. The quarterbacks of both teams combined for just over 150 passing yards while New York fed running back Breece Hall over 30 carries to dominate the ground game.

Moreover, field goals made up the only scoring in the contest until a late-game Jets touchdown put New York two scores ahead of New England with just a few minutes remaining in the contest.

Here are five big takeaways from the 17-3 loss.

3 big takeaways from Patriots’ 15-10 win over Jets

Here are 3 big takeaways from New England’s ugly win over the Jets

A win is a win, no matter how poor.

On a rainy Sunday afternoon in East Rutherford, N.J., the New England Patriots took on the New York Jets in a contest to determine last place in the AFC East.

The conditions determined the gameplay. Both teams combined for just over 500 total yards, and the Jets were limited to just 38 yards rushing between running backs Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook.

Ultimately, in the battle of strong defenses versus mediocre offenses, the Patriots prevailed 15-10, though not in a convincing fashion.

Studs and Duds from Patriots’ 10-3 win vs. Jets

Rehashing the Patriots’ studs and duds from Week 11.

The Patriots faced off against the New York Jets on Sunday in a largely uneventful game where the defenses stole the show.

Neither team scored in the first quarter, then both hit field goals in the second to bring the score to 3-3 going into halftime. After the half, there was no more scoring until New England rookie Marcus Jones returned a punt 84 yards to the house with only six seconds left in the game.

The score ended up being the only touchdown in the game and the first score that had taken place in over half an hour of in-game time.

Here are some studs and duds from the 10-3 victory.

4 big takeaways from Patriots’ 10-3 win vs Jets

Here are some big takeaways from the boring Patriots-Jets game that came with an electric finish

On a windy November Sunday in Foxborough, the New England Patriots and New York Jets combined for 17 punts in a game that featured little to no offensive action for the first 59.5 minutes.

While New England’s offense was able to move the ball up and down the field all game long, they were never able to capitalize on their scoring opportunities. The Patriots’ defense, in turn, suffocated a Jets offensive unit that was only able to net two yards of offense in the entirety of the second half.

The culmination of these factors led to a 3-3 game throughout most of the contest. However, Patriots rookie cornerback Marcus Jones scored a touchdown on the final play from scrimmage – a punt return with only 6 seconds left – to win the game for New England 10-3.

Here are four takeaways from the game.

Here are 3 big takeaways from New England’s hard-fought win over the Jets

If the New England Patriots needed a game to put their quarterback controversy to rest, this one was most certainly not it.

While starting quarterback Mac Jones performed admirably in his first full game back from a high ankle sprain, his play still left much to be desired. Jones threw for 194 passing yards and a touchdown, but he also recorded an interception and almost nearly a pick-six on a pass that was called back for a roughing the passer penalty.

Despite Jones’ inconsistent play, the Patriots were able to take down a Jets team that came into the matchup on a four-game winning streak. Here are three big takeaways from the victory.

Breshad Perriman is Jets Wire’s Week 9 Player of the Game vs. Patriots

Perriman was the Jets’ leading receiver with five catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns.

The Jets finally got all their playmakers on the field at once for the first time all season in Monday’s 30-27 loss to the Patriots. Breshad Perriman made the most of it.

Perriman was the Jets’ leading receiver with five catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns. It was the best game of his young Jets career, so he gets Jets Wire’s Player of the Game for Week 9.

Perriman’s most notable play was a 50-yard touchdown catch from Joe Flacco in the second quarter. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, that completion had a catch probability of 26 percent.

Perriman’s second touchdown catch was a thing of beauty, too. He completely crossed up his defender and had a wide-open, 15-yard touchdown late in the third quarter.

The Jets’ top receiver has had trouble staying on the field this season. Perriman missed a few games early in the season with an ankle injury and then missed last week’s game against the Chiefs with a concussion.

When Perriman has been on the field, had not been very productive. Before Monday’s performance, Perriman’s best game came against the Dolphins when he had eight catches for 62 yards. Perriman now has 16 catches for 219 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Monday showed how different the Jets offense looks when they have all three of their starting wide receivers on the field. With multiple playmakers, it opens up the field drastically and Perriman made the most of his opportunities.

We’ll see if that carries over into the Jets’ next game against the Chargers following their bye week.
