How many games will the New England Patriots win in the 2020 NFL season? We look at BetMGM‘s projected win total and the Over/Under odds, while looking back at the 2019 season and key offseason roster changes.
New England Patriots’ 2019 season
The Patriots got off to a red-hot start last season, winning their first eight games behind a historically dominant defense. They understandably stumbled against the Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs, but their loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 17 was alarming.
After going 12-4 in the regular season, New England was upset by the Tennessee Titans in the first round of the playoffs, 20-13. The Patriots were only 8-8-1 ATS last season, and if not for an outstanding defense, they likely wouldn’t have won more than 10 games.
New England Patriots’ 2020 offseason changes
The Patriots roster was ravaged by departures this offseason, beginning with QB Tom Brady in free agency. TE Rob Gronkowski was traded to Tampa Bay after sitting out last season, and LBs Jamie Collins and Kyle Van Noy left as free agents, too.
LB Dont’a Hightower and S Patrick Chung opted out of the 2020 season, as did FB James Develin and five others. They added S Kyle Dugger and LB Josh Uche early in the draft, but this offseason was more about departures than arrivals in New England.
Late in the process, the Patriots did add QB Cam Newton, which was by far their biggest signing.

Projected wins: 9.5 / OVER: +105 / UNDER: -125
The Patriots are going to look very different this season without Brady and key defenders, but they still have WR Julian Edelman, a decent offensive line and a secondary that features CB Stephon Gilmore. The division isn’t terribly difficult, either, even with the Dolphins and Bills on the uptrend.
Two games against the Jets are very favorable, but there are no other easy games on the schedule. They’ll face the daunting NFC West, the likes of the Ravens and Chiefs, all without their future Hall of Fame quarterback.
Still, I think Bill Belichick will find a way to make it work and win at least 10 games as he has in each of the last 17 years. Bet the OVER (+105).
