Nevada at UNLV: Three things to know

  1. Nevada beat Wyoming 37-34 in overtime last week in the opener for both MWC programs. The Wolf Pack let a 28-13 lead at the end of the third quarter slip away as the Cowboys stormed back in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Wolf Pack QB Carson Strong finished with 420 passing, including a 9-yard TD pass to Romeo Doubs in the extra period for the victory.
  2. The Fremont Cannon, awarded to the winner of Nevada-UNLV game, has gone to the Rebels in each of the past two seasons. However, Nevada leads the all-time series 18-10, with the Wolf Pack winning 11 of the previous 15 meetings.
  3. UNLV fell 34-6 at San Diego State in the debut of new head coach Marcos Arroyo, as nothing seemed to go right. The Rebels totaled just 186 total yards of offense, and 80 rushing yards, while coughing up 424 total yards with 287 rushing yards.

Nevada at UNLV: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Nevada 36, UNLV 19

Money line (ML)

PASS. Nevada (-477), mostly impressive against Wyoming last week, have lost two in a row to UNLV (+350). As such, it isn’t a good idea to post nearly five times your potential return.

Against the spread (ATS)

NEVADA (-13.5, -110) heads into this rivalry game looking for a more complete performance. Yes, it won last week at home against a solid Wyoming team. However, the Cowboys lost their starting quarterback after three plays, fell behind, and scratched back. The Wolf Pack allowed Wyoming back into the game, and that’s a concern. However, Nevada is still the bet here, as UNLV looked awful in San Diego.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 59.5 (-115) is a worth playing based on UNLV’s dismal performance in its opener. Nevada scored a lot of points last week, but it was at home. In the past 11 as road favorites, the Pack have hit the Under eight times, while going 27-10 in their past 37 as a favorite.

Wyoming at Nevada odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Wyoming Cowboys at Nevada Wolf Pack sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Wyoming Cowboys and Nevada Wolf Pack meet at MacKay Stadium in Reno, Nev., for a 7 p.m. ET Mountain West kickoff Saturday in the season opener for both. Below, we analyze the Wyoming-Nevada college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Wyoming at Nevada: Betting odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 5:50 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Wyoming -189 (bet $189 to win $100) | Nevada +155 (bet $100 to win $155)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Wyoming -4 (-115) | Nevada +4 (-106)
  • Over/Under: 50.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Wyoming at Nevada: Three things to know

  1. The Cowboys of Wyoming are expected to be among the challengers to Boise State at the top of the Mountain West thanks to QB Sean Chambers and RB Xazavian Valladay, who rolled up a conference-best 1,265 rushing yards in 2019. The offensive line is an experienced group, which will keep them each whole.
  2. Nevada has made strides under head coach Jay Norvell, and is expected to make a move to challenge for a conference title. QB Carson Strong is one of the league’s top signal callers, and RBs Devonte Lee and Toa Taua provide veteran leadership in the backfield.
  3. The Cowboys love being favored on the road. They’re 5-0 ATS in their past five as favorites away from home, and they have covered four in a row in this series, too. The Wolf Pack were no match for the Cowboys in Laramie last season, as Wyoming blasted Nevada 31-3.

Wyoming at Nevada: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Wyoming 27, Nevada 20

Money line (ML)

WYOMING (-189) is just a little more expensive than I’d normally like to spend, but with its road history, it’s a worthwhile play on the money line. This team has a tremendous O-line and a stud running back, who led the conference last season.

Against the spread (ATS)

WYOMING -4 (-115) hammered Nevada last season in Laramie. The Cowboys will look to get the run game cooking early in this one. The Wolf Pack have experience returning, but their offensive line is a bit suspect and they had difficulty running the ball a year ago. That will be the difference in this game.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 50.5 (-110) is a good play here. Both of these teams relied upon defense last season. The Under went 5-2 in the final seven for Nevada, and the Under is 12-3-1 in Wyoming’s past 16 on the road. The strong run game of the Cowboys is a friend to Under bettors, as it produces long, sustained, clock-eating drives.
