Net ratings, player totals for Florida football’s 2024 transfer portal activity

The Gators are in the middle of the pack in the SEC when it comes to the transfer portal net ratings.

The college football transfer portal is the cornerstone of the newest paradigm in college sports, allowing student-athletes to ostensibly move freely between programs similar to free agency in professional sports.

CBS Sports writer Brandon Marcello recently tabulated the net ratings and player totals for every Power Four team ahead of the 2024 campaign based on their results in the portal. Despite a solid showing overall in regards to addressing pressing roster needs, Florida is merely in the middle of the pack among its Southeastern Conference peers.

According to Marcello’s data, the Gators rank tenth in net rating gain in comparison to other SEC programs, butting up a score of 1.46. That breaks down into an average transfer rating of 89.27 with 15 transfers coming in while 24 left the Orange and Blue.

Other SEC schools in the rankings

The Texas Longhorns are at the top of the list, followed by the Missouri Tigers, Tennessee Volunteers, Ole Miss Rebels and Georgia Bulldogs in the top five, respectively. The Kentucky Wildcats, South Carolina Gamecocks, LSU Tigers and Auburn Tigers also rank ahead of Florida, respectively.

Florida’s 2024 season opener

Florida opens up its 2024 regular-season schedule in the Swamp against the Miami Hurricanes on Aug. 31. Kickoff time is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on ABC Sports.

Despite Struggles, Oklahoma Men’s Basketball team is far from the NCAA tournament bubble

Despite recent struggles, the Oklahoma Sooners are still in good shape to make the NCAA tournament.

The Oklahoma Sooners men’s basketball team has had an up-and-down go of it during Big 12 play. As things stand right now ahead of Saturday’s final conference Bedlam matchup, the Sooners are 18-8 overall and 6-7 in Big 12 play.

They’ve had opportunities to be better than their sub-.500 record. But such is life in the Big 12. Up 11 on Kansas one minute, suffering another disappointing loss the next.

And yet, the Oklahoma Sooners are still an improved basketball team from a year ago when they finished 5-13 in conference play and in last place. And despite the roller coaster ride they’ve been on in the toughest basketball conference in the country, Oklahoma is still on solid footing for to make the NCAA tournament for the first time under Porter Moser.

Even if they finish the season on a sour note, their strength of schedule will be enough for the Oklahoma Sooners to make the tournament. But let’s check in with where Oklahoma’s at in the latest NET ratings, RPI, and bracketologies from around the world of college hoops.

Saturday’s Georgia win doesn’t affect UF’s NET Ranking

Florida took down the Bulldogs in convincing fashion on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough for the team to rise in the latest NET Rankings.

Florida got back in the win column on Saturday with an impressive win over Georgia at home. The Gators were far from perfect, but the game marked a step in the right direction and, more importantly, allowed UF to avoid suffering a second Quadrant 3 loss on the season.

The victory didn’t do much to build Florida’s NCAA Tournament case, though. It remains ranked No. 30 in the NET, unchanged from where it was heading into Saturday’s game.

The Gators are a combined 5-1 in Quadrant 3 and 4 games, and the fact that they’ve managed to mostly avoid taking bad losses helps to counter the lackluster record, both overall and in conference play.

But UF is just 3-3 in Quadrant 1 opportunities and 3-2 in Quadrant 2 games. As long as Florida is struggling as much as it is against quality teams, it’s going to remain near the periphery of the tournament.

The Gators’ next two games come against Quadrant 1 opponents and it closes the season with a Quadrant 2 game against a Missouri team that is currently ranked. They’ll have plenty of opportunities to solidify their case, but for now, the Georgia win didn’t move the needle much.

Here’s where the latest college basketball NET ratings have Florida

UF has been in a sort of limbo both in the subjective bracket projections as well as in the objective rankings recently due to COVID.

The last time the Florida Gators men’s basketball team took the court was way back on Feb. 3, when then-No. 22 UF dropped a disappointing home loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks before the coronavirus made its second appearance this season.

Since then, three games have been postponed against the LSU Tigers, Tennessee Volunteers and Texas A&M Aggies, respectively, with the latter due to a COVID outbreak on the opposite team. As such, the Gators have been in a sort of limbo both in the subjective bracket projections as well as in the objective rankings, hovering in the upper-20s to lower-30s nationally over the past week across the board.

According to the most recent NET ratings released on Saturday, Florida sits at No. 28 in the nation, down from its previous spot at No. 25; this is an improvement over our prior update nearly a week ago in which UF sat at No. 30. As it stands, the Gators are currently 2-3 in Quad 1 matchups, 4-0 in Quad 2, 3-2 in Quad 3 and 1-0 in Quad 4 play.

The Gators are scheduled to face the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville on Tuesday if all goes to plan, as there has been no indication as of yet of the possibility of postponement. In the meantime, here is a look at the top 30 schools in the most recent NET ratings.

Gators slip again in NCAA college basketball NET ratings

The objective rankings have soured on the Gators and the recent NCAA NET ratings saw Florida drop a spot since our last update on Friday.

Florida Gators men’s basketball has taken a bit of a tumble recently after a disappointing home loss to an underachieving South Carolina Gamecocks last Wednesday, as well as their second bout with the coronavirus this season. Subsequently, both the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll and the AP Poll booted UF from their top 25 rankings this week.

The more objective rankings have also soured on the Gators, unsurprisingly, and the most recent NCAA NET ratings released on Sunday saw Florida drop a spot since our last update on Friday. However, UF inexplicably inched back up a notch since the previous NET update as noted in the ratings chart below.

As it stands, the Gators are currently 2-3 in Quad 1 matchups, 4-0 in Quad 2, 3-2 in Quad 3 and 1-0 in Quad 4 play. That Quad 3 record seems to be holding Florida back more than its three Quad 1 losses and suggests that the team is dealing with some letdowns against inferior opponents.

Here is a look at the top 30 schools in the most recent release of the NCAA college basketball NET ratings.

Gators take a tumble in latest college basketball NET ratings

Things seem to be falling back to Earth for the Gators after a discouraging home loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks on Wednesday.

[jwplayer i2uOkRbg]

After two weeks of some of the best basketball seen in Gainesville this season vaulted the Florida men’s basketball team back into the national spotlight, things seem to be falling back to Earth for the Gators after a discouraging home loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks on Wednesday.

Prior to the letdown in the O’Connell Center, UF had reached as high as No. 23 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll and No. 22 in the AP Poll, but it appears those rankings will not last long. Accordingly, the Gators have also fallen in the most recent update of the NCAA men’s basketball NET ratings, down seven spots from our previous update to No. 29.

Below are the top 30 schools in the nation according to the NET ratings released on Tuesday.

Florida takes a big step forward in latest NCAA basketball NET ratings

It has not been the easiest season for the UF men’s basketball but despite many hurdles, this team has proven this week that it won’t quit.

It has not been the easiest season for the Florida Gators men’s basketball team, but despite many hurdles, this team has proven that it will not quit this past week, notching a huge win against the top-10 ranked Tennessee Volunteers as well as the Georgia Bulldogs to claim their first winning streak since the start of league play.

Before the tides turned and the Gators returned to their winning ways, things were looking very grim in the NCAA’s NET rankings for UF, who dropped as far as No. 55. In the third iteration of the rankings, Florida began inching its way back up thanks to a win against the Ole Miss Rebels — though the following loss to the Mississippi State Bulldogs did little to help their cause.

So where do the Gators stand in the fourth NCAA NET ratings of the 2020-21 season? The answer is at No. 26, just four spots below where the team was in the initial release. The rebound is an extremely encouraging sign for a program that has been without its two star players in Keyontae Johnson and Scottie Lewis, as well as lost time for transfer Colin Castleton, who earned Co-SEC Player of the Week recently.

The Gators will host the Vanderbilt Commodores on Wednesday before taking on the West Virginia Mountaineers in the SEC-Big East Challenge Saturday. Vandy should pose few problems for Florida while the Mountaineers might give the Gators some trouble. If UF can pull out both wins, expect to see a much more bullish outlook from the numbers and the media next week.

Florida Gators take a precipitous fall in second NET ratings of the season

Florida men’s basketball team took a precipitous tumble in the second NET ratings of the season, which were published on Monday by the NCAA.

The Florida Gators men’s basketball team took a precipitous tumble in the second NET ratings of the season, which were published on Monday by the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

After starting off at No. 22 in the initial ratings released last week, UF fell 33 spots all the way to No. 55 in the nation after a pair of embarrassing losses to the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Kentucky Wildcats — both games they were favored by at least 3.5 points in, per BetMGM.

The Gonzaga Zags and the Baylor Bears unsurprisingly occupy the top two spots, respectively. The Southeastern Conference has three schools in the top 25 this week, with the Tennessee Volunteers holding strong to their No. 3 spot, while the Arkansas Razorbacks and LSU Tigers — the latter of whom provided the Gators with their most recent win — sit at No. 21 and 22, respectively.

The Michigan Wolverines at No. 4 and Iowa Hawkeyes at No. 5 occupy the final two spots in this week’s ratings.
