Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola named to 247Sports Top Ten list

The Nebraska quarterback joins a list of the nation’s best.

Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola was ranked tenth on Clint Brewster’s top ten quarterbacks in college football rankings. The 247Sports analyst had him on a list that included the likes of Carson Beck, Quinn Ewers, and Shedeur Sanders.

Raiola’s college career is off to a solid start. Through two games, the quarterback has 423 yards and three touchdowns en route to a 2-0 start.

Raiola has had a solid couple of weeks. From being named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, to appearing on this list, the quarterback is getting his due. It would be fair to temper expectations for now, especially since it’s the beginning of the season. However, these accolades are certainly a step in the right direction.

Rhule won’t ‘ease’ Raiola into first game

Rhule was asked multiple times during his press conference on Monday about easing freshman Dylan Raiola into the game on Saturday, and the head coach said that would not be happening.

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule is making it clear he has no doubts about his starting quarterback. Rhule was asked multiple times during his press conference on Monday about easing freshman Dylan Raiola into the game on Saturday, and the head coach said that would not be happening.

“I’d rather lose the first game than the last game. So, we’re not going to ease into it. We’re going to play.”

Rhule explained that the entire playbook will be available when the Huskers take the field on Saturday.

“Dylan’s going to play. He’s going to play the plays. When we call drop back, he’s going to drop back, he’s going to go back there and take his drop, go through his progression. Just how we want him to play when he’s a junior, we’re going to start day one that way. We’re not easing into anything.”

Raiola will become only the second true freshman to start a game in the history of Nebraska football when the Huskers take the field against UTEP this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT on Fox.

A Nebraska high school quarterback will be walking on for the Cornhuskers. Senior quarterback Bode Soukup made the announcement on social media on Monday.

I am extremely excited to announce my commitment to play football and continue my education at the University of Nebraska! With that being said, I would like to thank Coach Rhule, Coach Satt, and Coach AD for this opportunity to embrace the walk-on tradition at the University.

In six games this season, the Blair High School quarterback has thrown for 1,048 yards and nine touchdowns. He will be the second QB who is a member of the class of 2024.

Soukup will join Bellevue West’s Daniel Kaelin as the only two signal callers in Nebraska’s upcoming recruiting effort. Find the reaction to the announcement below.

Who will Nebraska start at quarterback against Michigan

Who will be Nebraska’s starting quarterback when the Huskers take the field this Saturday against Michigan?

Who will be Nebraska’s starting quarterback when the Huskers take the field this Saturday against Michigan? Head coach Matt Rhule addressed the question on Monday afternoon.

“I play the guy I think gives us the best chance to win. It’s unique in that, I have a guy that was the starter, that couldn’t finish the game, really. And I have another guy that was the starter this past game that couldn’t finish the game. I have two quarterbacks that couldn’t finish the game. For me to sit up here on a Monday and say ‘this is what’s happening’ – this isn’t gamesmanship. Both guys do the same thing, really”

Rhule went on to say that his job is to make sure every quarterback on the roster is ready to take snaps should the need arise.

“My job is to get everybody ready. Chubba (Purdy) was going into the game as the number three, and he was down there at the end of the game, playing. We get Chubba reps. Everything we do is reps, reps, reps, reps, reps, reps, reps, because I don’t know who the hero is going to be this week. I don’t know who the hero is going to be next week. We just try to split the reps because we get so many reps because we’re always doing multiple drills. It’s the Nebraska way, and we do it, so that helps us, as opposed to most teams.”

Jeff Sims has thrown for 220 yards for the season with one touchdown and four interceptions. He’s also added 156 yards on the ground with one touchdown.

Heinrich Haarberg has 278 passing yards with four touchdowns on the season. He’s also added 272 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
