As Nebraska moves closer to the start of the 2023 season, the Huskers have finally released their team depth chart. With the release, we now have a better idea of what the first-string defense will look like.

This season sees Nebraska adopt a 3-3-5 defense under new coordinator Tony White. He learned the defense under Rocky Long, considered one of the significant influences on the modern spread defense.

White’s defenses have developed a reputation for their aggressive blitz packages and unorthodox alignments. This won’t be head coach Matt Rhule’s first time with the new base defense, either. He used the 3-3-5 during his time at Baylor.

As Nebraska moves closer to the start of the 2023 season, the Cornhuskers have finally released the first look at their team depth chart. At first glance, the biggest surprise continues to be the running back position.

Gabe Ervin Jr. is listed as RB1, with junior Rahmir Johnson listed in the second position. Last season’s leading rusher, Anthony Grant, is listed in the third spot.

Head coach Matt Rhule has cited turnovers for Grant’s spot on the depth chart.

“When the ball is in his hands, Anthony is elite running the football. Anthony has put the ball on the ground too much. No matter how talented you are, if you fumble the football, you can’t play for us. We’re going to continue to work with AG. He’s had a good camp up until the last couple of days when he’s sort of turned the ball over.

Nebraska is looking for its first 1,000-yard season since Devin Ozigbo did it back in 2018. You can find the entire first string offense listed below.
