Husker named Big Ten Freshman of the Year

A Nebraska women’s basketball player has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

A Nebraska women’s basketball player has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Natalie Potts earned the honor on Tuesday morning from the conference’s coaches.

Potts has averaged 10.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for the Cornhuskers. The Missouri native was named to the conference’s All-Freshman Team and was an honorable mention All-Big Ten.

She was joined on the Freshman team by fellow Cornhusker Logan Nissley. Nebraska will continue their season on Thursday afternoon in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.

The Huskers will face the winner of Northwestern and Purdue. Tip-off from Minneapolis is set for 2:00 p.m.

Husker basketball player named first-team All-Big Ten

A Nebraska women’s basketball player has been named a member of the All-Big Ten first-team.

A Nebraska women’s basketball player has been named a member of the All-Big Ten first-team. Alexis Markowski earned the conference honor on Monday evening.

Markowski has averaged 15.8 points and 10.7 rebounds per game for the Cornhuskers this season. She is one of three Big Ten players to average a double-double during the regular season, joining Wisconsin’s Serah Williams and Illinois’ Kendall Bostic.

This is the first All-Big Ten first-team honor for the Lincoln, Nebraska native. She was named second-team All-Big Ten in 2022 and 2023 and was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2022.

Joining Markowski in postseason honors is senior guard Jaz Shelley. The Australian was named second-team All-Big Ten team on Monday. Shelley averaged 12.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists a game.

Nebraska will continue their season on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.

Two Nebraska women’s basketball players earned All-Big Ten recognition from the coaches and media.

Two Nebraska women’s basketball players earned All-Big Ten recognition from the coaches and media. Jaz Shelley and Alexis Markowski were named to the two All-Big Ten teams on Wednesday afternoon.

Last season, Shelley was a first-team All-Big Ten selection after averaging 14.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 6.2 assists on the season. The Moe, Australia native, is also a member of her country’s national team.

Markowski is a two-time second-team All-Big Ten selection. Last season, she averaged 11.9 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.

The Nebraska women’s basketball team will participate in the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Media Day at the Target Center in Minneapolis on Monday, Oct. 9.
