Pete Carroll: Tight end Colby Parkinson ‘is going to be a factor’

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll believes tight end Colby Parkinson will be integral to the offense in 2021.

The Seattle Seahawks’ tight end room looks fairly solid ahead of the 2021 season. Will Dissly and former Los Angeles Rams tight end Gerald Everett are the most notable names, but Seahawks coach Pete Carroll recently sung the praises of tight end Colby Parkinson.

Carroll said via NBC Sports Northwest’s Joe Fann that Parkinson will be an integral piece of the offense this season, citing his height and catching ability among other things.

“Colby is going to be a factor,” Carroll said. “There’s nothing to keep him from being a factor. At 6-foot-7, you know he’s got a target that’s just obviously unique. He’s got great hands. He’s a natural catcher. His catching range is as normal as it can be. He can use it all. He gets off the ground well, too, when he has to. He’s a really bright player. He’s picked stuff up.”

Parkinson played in six games last year, but only recorded two receptions for 16 yards on two targets averaging 0.3 receptions per game. However, he let the time he missed motivate his training this offseason, particularly with the strength program.

“Because of the time he missed on the field with us, he really dove into the strength program, and he just pumped up,” Carroll continued. “He’s better now than he was at the end when he became active with us at the end of the year.”

Steve Raible identifies his favorite call of his play-by-play career

Seattle Seahawks announcer Steve Raible said his favorite play call of his career was the announcement of the team’s Super Bowl victory.

Seattle Seahawks play-by-play announcer Steve Raible recently identified his favorite radio call of his career. It was none other than his announcement that the Seahawks won Super Bowl XLVIII.

“12s, they’re bringing the trophy home, your Seahawks — Super Bowl 48 champions!”

Raible told NBC Sports Northwest that it was not the most important play, but the most fun moment.

“That’s the most fun call I’ve ever had. It wasn’t a play, but it was the exclamation to that night,” Raible said. “That was the moment we could all celebrate and boy we sure did.”

Everyone knows what happened the following year, but this was the finest moment in Seahawks’ franchise history and will be remembered in the Emerald City for eternity.

Reliving this moment will hopefully give Seattle fans something positive to recall as everyone patiently waits for the reopening of professional sports and the start of the 2020 NFL regular season.

Seahawks plan to move DK Metcalf around more in 2020

The Seattle Seahawks plan to move star wide receiver DK Metcalf around the formation more in 2020 now that they know his capabilities.

The Seattle Seahawks are looking to utilize wide receiver DK Metcalf in numerous ways in 2020, following his breakout rookie season.

Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer stated that Metcalf will be moved around the formation more often, now that they are aware of his full range of abilities.

“The No. 1 thing that we know is that we can move him around and do different things with him,” Schottenheimer told NBC Sports Northwest. “He kind of got stuck at the ‘X’ receiver last year. This year we know we can move him around quite a bit more. There are so many more routes he can run. He’s proven he can get behind people.”

Schottenheimer said Seattle can attempt new plays that play more to Metcalf’s strengths, and that this has the potential to significantly benefit the offense in the near future.

“I just think the flexibility of moving him around and introducing some different route concepts that we can kind of get him up to speed on will complement the things that he’s already put on film,” Schottenheimer continued. “It will be an incredible, incredible advantage for us as we head into next season.”

A pivotal moment for Metcalf was his performance in the Seahawks’ wild-card game against the Philadelphia Eagles, in which he recorded seven receptions for 160 yards and a touchdown, setting the NFL postseason rookie record in the process.

“The night was stolen by D.K.,” Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said in his postgame press conference. “He just had a phenomenal night. Showed you what he’s capable of looking like. He’s had a great season in his rookie year, but to have a night like that, first time ever in the playoffs, it’s spectacular. He’s doing stuff that it’s hard to imagine anyone else doing. So we’re excited about that.”

With his tremendous debut season in the books, the sky is the ceiling for Metcalf as the Seahawks look to get him even more involved in 2020.
