NBA Twitter reacts to Sixers’ Joel Embiid winning 2023 MVP award

NBA Twitter gave its best reactions to Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid winning the 2023 MVP award.

Philadelphia 76ers star big man Joel Embiid finally has his big moment. After being the runner-up in the MVP race to Nikola Jokic in both 2021 and 2022, the big fella takes home the award in 2023 after another dominant season to lead the Sixers to a ton of success on the floor.

On the season, Embiid led the league in scoring at 33.1 points per game on ridiculous 54.8% shooting, 10.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.7 blocks per game. He threw the Sixers on his back on plenty of occasions, and he scored at least 50 points in a game three times, including scoring a career-high 59 against the Utah Jazz in November.

Embiid is a very deserving MVP winner and he has taken his game to another level this season. He is the reason the Sixers are in position to contend in the Eastern Conference.

Mac McClung, NBA Twitter react to Sixers’ Game 1 win over Celtics

Mac McClung and NBA Twitter react to the Philadelphia 76ers knocking off the Boston Celtics in Game 1 on the road.

The Philadelphia 76ers picked up one of the more improbable wins anybody will see when they knocked off the Boston Celtics, 119-115, on the road to take a 1-0 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals. There was no Joel Embiid to save them in this one, so they called on The Beard.

James Harden delivered one of the best playoff performances he has ever had when he dropped 45 points on 17-for-30 shooting with six assists. He drilled the go-ahead 3 over Al Horford with 8.4 seconds left to lift the Sixers to the win. He was fantastic all night long to ensure Philadelphia earned the win.

Tyrese Maxey added 26 points, and Tobias Harris contributed 18 points and five rebounds. De’Anthony Melton had 17 big points off the bench, and Paul Reed had 10 points and 13 rebounds.

NBA Twitter reacts to the Nets’ season-ending loss in Game 4 to the 76ers

Here’s how NBA Twitter reacted to the Nets losing Game 4, ending their season.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets hosted the Philadelphia 76ers at Barclays Center on Saturday for Game 4 of their first-round series and lost 96-88. Philadelphia has swept the season series 4-0.

For the Nets, Spencer Dinwiddie had 20 points and six assists while Nic Claxton had 19 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks. Mikal Bridges had 17 points and Cam Johnson had 11 points.

For the 76ers, Tobias Harris had 25 points and 12 rebounds while James Harden had 17 points and 11 assists. Tyrese Maxey had 16 points and De’Anthony Melton had 15 points off the bench.

In the first half, Brooklyn took advantage of the absence of Joel Embiid by having more success driving to the basket and racking up points in the paint. Without Embiid in the game, Brooklyn was able to switch up its defensive coverage by playing more straight-up and making Philadelphia have to earn its buckets. Nic Claxton had 15 points.

In the second half, Brooklyn ran into familiar issues with being unable to score on a consistent basis, especially in the third quarter, and having trouble rebounding the basketball. Over the course of the game, Brooklyn allowed Philadelphia to grab 15 offensive rebounds that led to 25 second-chance points. The Nets’ season ended in a disappointing way that showed the work that the team has to do in the offseason.

The Philadelphia 76ers secured their first sweep of a seven-game series since 1985 when they knocked off the Brooklyn Nets, 96-88, in Game 4 on Saturday afternoon. They did so despite being without Joel Embiid due to a right knee sprain. They advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals for the third consecutive season.

The Sixers received big contributions from Tobias Harris and Paul Reed. Harris led the way with 25 points on 11-for-19 shooting with 12 rebounds. He was really the only Sixer who could get into an offensive rhythm. Reed had 10 points and 15 rebounds while getting the start in place of Embiid.

Along with those big contributions, the Sixers received 17 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds from James Harden. Tyrese Maxey had 16 points and eight rebounds. Though they combined to shoot 10-for-38, they found ways to contribute. De’Anthony Melton scored all 15 of his points in the fourth quarter.

For the Nets, Mikal Bridges had 26 points and five assists while Spencer Dinwiddie had 20 points and seven assists. Nic Claxton had 18 points and Cam Johnson had 17 points.

Embiid fell and Claxton stood over him which made Embiid kick Claxton. Embiid was called for a flagrant one foul while Claxton was whistled for a technical foul.

After that altercation, the game finally got under control, but Philadelphia showed that they could handle the double-teams on Embiid. Once again, the 76ers made a living on second-chance points and points off turnovers along with Brooklyn having trouble scoring consistently.

In the second half, Brooklyn got back into the game with an early run. The Nets were able to show that they can play winning basketball in the second half as they took advantage of a hobbled Embiid. However, things took a turn with 8:48 left in the fourth quarter when Claxton was given his second technical foul for staring at Embiid after a dunk. Claxton was ejected from the game and from there, Philadelphia finished the game on a 21-10 run.
