The Sixers hired Nick Nurse to be their next head coach, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Nurse compiled 227-163 record in five seasons at the helm for the Toronto Raptors, winning the franchise’s first NBA title in his first season as a head coach in 2019. Nurse was named the NBA’s Coach of the Year in 2020. The Raptors won five playoff series during his time in Toronto.

2023 NBA draft lottery: Twitter reacts to the OKC Thunder landing the No. 12 pick

The best tweets reacting to the Thunder staying at No. 12 in the 2023 NBA draft lottery:

The 2023 NBA draft lottery is over and the Oklahoma City Thunder landed at the No. 12 spot.

This shouldn’t be a shocker to anybody. The Thunder entered the lottery with an 85.2% chance of landing at the 12th spot. The Thunder now get an opportunity to add an additional lottery talent to their young core.

The Thunder also had the No. 12 pick in last year’s class and seleced Jalen Williams with it.

Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs won the Victor Wembanyama sweepstake, landing the first pick. The French phenom will likely begin his NBA career with the Spurs.

Let’s look at some of the best tweets reacting to the Thunder landing at No. 12.

NBA Twitter reacts to Sixers moving on from Doc Rivers after 3 seasons

NBA Twitter reacts to the Philadelphia 76ers moving on from Doc Rivers after three seasons on the job.

The Philadelphia 76ers will begin a new era when the 2023-24 season tips off. They will have a new voice in the head coach’s chair.

That was assured after the Sixers parted ways with Doc Rivers on Tuesday after three seasons that included a lot of winning, but three consecutive conference semifinals exits.

Rivers had a winning percentage of .653 and changed a lot about the Sixers during his time on the job. They earned the No. 1 seed in 2021 for the first time since 2001, and they won 154 games under his guidance while helping Joel Embiid take the next steps in his development.

There have already been a few names mentioned to replace Rivers, including assistant Sam Cassell who won two titles as a player in the league. It will be interesting to see who the Sixers choose to replace Rivers as they continue on their championship path.

NBA Twitter reacts to Nets’ Ben Simmons’ IG post about 76ers

NBA Twitter did not let Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons’ IG post about the 76ers losing Game 7 on Sunday slide.

Brooklyn Nets center Ben Simmons has been rehabbing ever since March when a nerve impingement was found in his back that prematurely ended his 2022-23 season. While he has been focused on his rehab so that he can be ready to participate in FIBA World Cup 2023 for the Australian National Team and in training camp for the Nets, Simmons has been consuming NBA playoff basketball.

Simmons, the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft out of LSU, spent a little over five seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers before being traded to Brooklyn due to some issues that Simmons was having with the team. Simmons withheld his services from Philadelphia during the 2021-22 season as he decided that he didn’t want to play for the franchise anymore due to how he felt that the organization contributed to his mental health issues.

Even though Simmons has left Philadelphia, he still gets booed whenever he plays in Philadelphia. The 76ers played the Boston Celtics on Sunday in Game 7 of their Eastern Conference second-round series and lost in an embarrassing fashion, 112-88. From the looks of it, Simmons was showing himself taking in the game:

NBA Twitter reacts to Jayson Tatum, Celtics beating Sixers in Game 6

NBA Twitter reacts to Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics defeating the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 6 to stay alive.

The Philadelphia 76ers had a chance to eliminate the Boston Celtics in Game 6 at home on Thursday and advance to the Eastern Conference finals. They led the series, 3-2, after an impressive road win in Game 5, and they were looking to bury the Celtics.

However, this Boston team has seen every playoff scenario, and it put that experience to good use on Thursday. The Celtics staved off elimination with a 95-86 win over the Sixers to force a winner-take-all Game 7 in Boston on Sunday.

Celtics star Jayson Tatum, who was 1-for-13 from the floor through the first three quarters, took over in the fourth. He was 4-for-5 from deep in the final frame and outscored the Sixers by himself 16-13 in the quarter.

Joel Embiid had 26 points and 10 rebounds. Tyrese Maxey had 26 points, and James Harden had 13 points on 4-for-16 shooting for Philadelphia.

NBA Twitter reacts to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s All-NBA first-team berth

Let’s look at the best tweets celebrating SGA’s biggest individual accolade yet.

The league announced all three of its All-NBA teams on Wednesday, and Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander made the first team.

Gilgeous-Alexander enjoyed the best season of his career. He averaged 31.4 points on 51% shooting, 5.5 assists and 4.8 rebounds. He earned his first All-Star berth, finished No. 2 in Most Improved Player voting and was top five in MVP voting this season.

The 24-year-old was the face of the league’s biggest overachieving team. The young Thunder finished a win shy of a playoff berth after going 40-42 in the regular season — a much better record than what most projected for OKC heading into the season.

Let’s look at some of the best tweets celebrating Gilgeous-Alexander’s biggest career accomplishment.

NBA Twitter reacts to Joel Embiid, Sixers defeating Celtics in Game 5

NBA Twitter reacts to Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers defeating the Boston Celtics in Game 5 on the road.

The Philadelphia 76ers earned one of the biggest wins in recent franchise history on Tuesday when they defeated the Boston Celtics, 115-103, in Game 5 of their semifinal series. They lead the Celtics, 3-2, in the series and are one win away from advancing to the Eastern Conference finals.

The Sixers received big nights from up and down the roster. Joel Embiid delivered 33 points, and Tyrese Maxey had 30. James Harden added 17 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. Tobias Harris added 16 points and 11 rebounds. Danuel House Jr. hopped off the bench and poured in 10 points while PJ Tucker did the little things to get it done.

The Sixers bothered Jayson Tatum and held the Boston star to 11-for-27 shooting from the floor and 3-for-11 from deep. Al Horford was 0-for-7 from deep and the Celtics shot just 39.8% from the floor.

NBA Twitter reacts to James Harden, Sixers beating Celtics in Game 4

NBA Twitter reacts to James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers knocking off the Boston Celtics in a thriller in Game 4.

The Philadelphia 76ers were in trouble on Sunday when they played host to the Boston Celtics in Game 4. The Sixers were going to be in either a 2-2 tie heading back to the TD Garden or they’d be staring down elimination. Sunday was essentially a do-or-die moment.

They almost let it slip away. Philadelphia led by 16 in the second half but made numerous mistakes that allowed the Celtics to take a 105-100 lead with 2:03 left. It looked like it would be another missed opportunity for the Sixers.

Then, their future Hall of Famer came to the rescue. James Harden had 42 points on 16-for-23 shooting, and he forced overtime with a tough floater and then he ended up winning the game with a triple in overtime. The Sixers earned a 116-115 overtime win and Joel Embiid had 34 points and 13 rebounds in support.

NBA Twitter reacts to James Harden, Sixers falling to Celtics in Game 3

NBA Twitter reacts to James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers falling to the Boston Celtics in Game 3 of the semifinals at home.

The Philadelphia 76ers returned home to the Wells Fargo Center as their Eastern Conference semifinal series shifted to South Philly. They were able to knock off the Boston Celtics in Game 1 on the road to steal the home-court advantage and were now looking to stay hot at home.

Instead, the Celtics walked away with a 114-102 victory to take a 2-1 lead in the series. Boston had six players score double-digits led by 27 points from Jayson Tatum and 23 points from Jaylen Brown. They out-rebounded Philadelphia 13-6 in the fourth quarter to put a halt to any rally the Sixers had in them.

MVP Joel Embiid had 30 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks as he had himself a very solid night. However, James Harden struggled as he shot just 3-for-14 and 2-for-7 from deep for 16 points, 11 assists, and six rebounds. He also had five turnovers on the night.

NBA Twitter reacts to Celtics running away from Sixers in Game 2

NBA Twitter gave its best reactions to the Boston Celtics running away from the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 2 at home.

The Philadelphia 76ers had a chance to take a 2-0 series lead before the Eastern Conference semifinal shifted to the Wells Fargo Center for Game 3 on Friday.

They welcomed Joel Embiid back to the lineup in Game 2, but the Boston Celtics used a huge 35-16 third quarter to knock off the Sixers, 121-87, and even the series at 1.

The Celtics were 20-for-51 from deep while Philadelphia shot 6-for-30. The Sixers had a tough time really finding any rhythm, and it cost them. Jaylen Brown had 25 points and Malcolm Brogdon had 23 for Boston.

Embiid understandably looked a bit out of rhythm. He had 14 points on 4-for-9 shooting, but he had five blocks. He did a really good job of protecting the rim and making an impact there.

James Harden shot just 2-for-14 for 12 points after he scored 45 in the Game 1 win. Tobias Harris had 16 points and seven rebounds and Tyrese Maxey had 13 points.
