The Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks meet Wednesday in the 2024 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Tip-off from Thomas & Mack Center is set for 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN/ESPN+). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Lakers vs. Hawks odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Lakers kicked off their 2024 NBA Summer League with a 99-80 loss Friday to the Houston Rockets, who are led by No. 3 overall pick G Reed Sheppard. L.A. followed that up with an 88-74 loss to the Boston Celtics Monday. F Dalton Knecht, who L.A. selected at No. 17 in June, led the way with 19 points but was just 7-for-21 from the field. G Bronny James finished 1-for-5 in 25 minutes.

Atlanta, which didn’t play in either the Salt Lake City Summer League or California Classic, opened its summer league play with a 94-88 loss to the Washington Wizards Friday. Atlanta’s opener featured this year’s top 2 picks in Hawks F Zaccharie Risacher, who went No. 1 overall, and Wizards C Alex Sarr. Risacher ended his summer league debut with 18 points and 3 triples. The Hawks then lost to the Spurs 79-76 Sunday. The 19-year-old foward ended with 11 points on 1-of-7 shooting.

Lakers at Hawks picks and predictions

Prediction

Hawks 83, Lakers 76

Moneyline

PASS.

The Lakers to pull off the upset is the only playable side on the moneyline, but that doesn’t make much sense given it has lost both its summer league performances by double figures.

The Hawks (-162) have lost both as well but have looked more competitive and should be able to win and cover here. Avoid their moneyline play, though, as it is too expensive to take here.

Against the spread

BET HAWKS -3 (-114).

The Hawks have competed well throughout the summer league and lost to the Spurs by 3 despite their No. 1 overall pick shooting horribly from the field. San Antonio is undefeated in the summer league, while the Lakers are coming off a 14-point loss to the 1-1 Celtics.

Los Angeles hasn’t put it all together and doesn’t have an efficient, go-to scoring option. None of its 5 starters shot over 43% from the field in its loss to Boston. Considering how both teams have played so far in Vegas, take HAWKS -3 (-108).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

BET UNDER 172.5 (-110).

Considering the Lakers’ inefficiency, there isn’t much reason to think they’ll top 80 points here, having scored or gone south of that figure in both games prior. The Hawks have scored 88 and 76, as well, so they haven’t been lighting up the scoreboard either.

Atlanta shot just 34.7% from the field and 24.4% from deep in its last battle against San Antonio. Neither team has shown a strong offensive propensity. Take UNDER 172.5 (-110).

Summer League: San Antonio Spurs vs. Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s San Antonio Spurs vs. Atlanta Hawks odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The San Antonio Spurs and Atlanta Hawks meet Sunday in the 2024 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Tip-off from Thomas & Mack Center is set for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN2/ESPN+). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Spurs vs. Hawks odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Spurs selected G Stephon Castle, who should be active Sunday, at No. 4 in the 2024 NBA Draft and G Rob Dillingham at No. 8, immediately sending him to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Castle dropped 22 points on 8-of-21 shooting in their 83-77 win over the Portland Trail Blazers Saturday. San Antonio was 1-2 in its 3 California Classic games earlier in the month, having lost 97-65 to the Charlotte Hornets and 85-59 to the Sacramento Kings 1 before picking up an 89-67 win over Team China.

The Hawks opened their summer league play with a 94-88 loss to the Washington Wizards Friday in a battle that featured the top 2 picks in the draft. Atlanta drafted F Zaccharie Risacher with the No. 1 overall pick. He ended his summer league debut with 18 points and 3 triples. The Hawks only have 1 player with multiple years in the NBA, F Dylan Windler. Atlanta didn’t play in either the Salt Lake City Summer League or California Classic.

  • Over/Under (O/U): 170.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Spurs at Hawks picks and predictions

Prediction

Hawks 89, Spurs 83

Moneyline

PASS.

In all 5 games these teams have combined to play in summer league, the closing spread has been higher than 3 points. Take the Spurs on the moneyline or the Hawks on the spread, although the latter is suggested here.

Against the spread

BET HAWKS -3 (-108).

The Hawks jumped out to a 9-point lead after the 1st quarter Friday, but struggled shooting, going 11-of-39 from deep and just 21-of-35 from the free-throw line. Those should both see improvements Sunday, especially the latter.

Atlanta will have a major size advantage, which should bode well for it on the glass. Given San Antonio snatched 15 offensive boards against Portland, having Risacher in the middle will help. Atlanta started 5 forwards against Washington as well.

San Antonio struggled immensely in the California Classic and will be on the 2nd night of a back-to-back. Considering the size and rest advantage, take HAWKS -3 (-108).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

BET OVER 170.5 (-110).

Both teams like to run, and they’re going to be shooting a bunch of 3s Sunday. The Hawks and Spurs both tossed up 39 triples in their 1st summer league appearance. The Spurs connected on 12, while the Hawks hit 11.

As the players get more comfortable, especially since this is the 1st NBA action for most, they should start to improve from deep. The Hawks scored 23 or more points in 3 of 4 quarters, while the Spurs scored 22 or more in 3 of 4. The consistency should be there in the offensive sets and roster depth.

Take OVER 170.5 (-110).

Summer League: San Antonio Spurs vs. Portland Trail Blazers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s San Antonio Spurs vs. Portland Trail Blazers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The San Antonio Spurs and Portland Trail Blazers meet Saturday in the 2024 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Tip-off from Thomas & Mack Center is set for 9 p.m. ET (ESPN2/ESPN+). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Spurs vs. Trail Blazers odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Spurs entered the 2024 NBA Draft with the No. 4 and No. 8 overall picks. They selected G Stephon Castle, who should be active Saturday, at No. 4 and G Rob Dillingham at No. 8, immediately trading him to the Minnesota Timberwolves. San Antonio was one of just a handful of teams in the California Classic. It left with a 1-2 record, having lost 97-65 to the Charlotte Hornets and 85-59 to the Sacramento Kings 1 before picking up an 89-67 win over Team China.

The Trail Blazers did not compete in the California Classic or the Salt Lake City Summer League, so this will be their 1st action. The Trail Blazers dealt with a plethora of injuries last season and ended with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. They took UConn C Donovan Clingan, who was among the most dominant big men in college hoops. G Kennedy Chandler is another name to keep an eye on for Portland.

Spurs at Trail Blazers odds

Provided by FanDuel Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 2:13 a.m. ET.

  • Moneyline (ML): Spurs +122 (bet $100 to win $122) | Trail Blazers -150 (bet $150 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Spurs +2.5 (-110) | Trail Blazers -2.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 167.5 (O: -115 | U: -111)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Spurs at Trail Blazers picks and predictions

Prediction

Trail Blazers 85, Spurs 77

Moneyline

PASS.

The moneyline isn’t necessarily bad value, but the better and more playable odds here are on the spread. Look there for the best option in this battle.

Against the spread

BET TRAIL BLAZERS -2.5 (-110).

The Trail Blazers should get easier buckets with Clingan, the 7-foot-2 center, in the paint. On top of that, the Spurs, who have 3 games under their belt, lost by 32 and 26 to the 2 other NBA teams they took on. Simply put, the Spurs don’t have a ton of playmakers on the roster having shot under 30% from the field in both games against NBA teams in the California Classic.

Given Portland is bringing 5 players that are 6-foot-8 or taller, it should get more put-back opportunities and have a solid advantage defensively as well. San Antonio doesn’t have a player over 6-foot-9, making a serious disadvantage for anyone guarding Clingan.

Given those challenges for the Spurs, take TRAIL BLAZERS -2.5 (-110).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

BET UNDER 167.5 (-111).

The Spurs issues, despite not having Castle, were too much to overlook. Offensively, they scored just 65 and 59 in those 2 games in the California Classic. They would’ve gone more than 10 points under this total in all 3 games, even in their win over Team China.

For Portland, it will be its 1st time taking the court together, and that usually doesn’t produce overly efficient offense. It only has 1 player with more than 1 year of experience in the NBA, as well, so it’s a relatively youthful roster.

With that in mind, expect offensive shortcomings, and back UNDER 167.5 (-111).

Summer League: Houston Rockets vs. Los Angeles Lakers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Houston Rockets vs. Los Angeles Lakers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Houston Rockets battle the Los Angeles Lakers Friday to help commence the 2024 NBA Las Vegas Summer League. Tip from Thomas & Mack Center is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Rockets vs. Lakers odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Lakers summer league play is going to be watched closer with 1st-round pick F Dalton Knecht and 2nd-round pick G Bronny James Jr. on the roster. The Lakers already played some games with this roster, losing all 3 games in the California Classic and losing 2 of the 3 by double figures. Los Angeles best performance was in its last game, losing to the Miami heat 80-76. Knecht led the team with 20 points in that game.

The Rockets struggled last season and earned a high draft pick as well, taking Kentucky standout G Reed Sheppard with the 3rd-overall pick. Sheppard is the main player to keep an eye on and was the 1st collegiate player taken in the draft, but F Cam Whitmore, G Trevor Keels and G AJ Griffin will certainly also leave their impact.

Rockets at Lakers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rockets 86, Lakers 82

Moneyline

PASS.

The Rockets have the more talented roster and should come out on top. At -280, there’s no value in backing the favorite, and the Lakers (+220) struggled in the California Classic, making them unlikely to pull off an upset.

Against the spread

BET LAKERS +6.5 (-110).

Having played together goes a long way in these events, and the Rockets haven’t spent as much time together as the Lakers, who already have 3 games under their belt and started to really put it together against the Heat. Lakers’ 6-foot-10 F Colin Castleton has improved and hit double figures last game as well.

The Rockets have Sheppard, but his main use in college was his efficiency, not necessarily his shot creation. While that will help at the NBA level when others can find him open, he may struggle to create and dominate at this level.

Given the Lakers continuity with having already played, expect them to keep this one close and back LAKERS +6.5 (-110).

Over/Under

BET UNDER 181.5 (-110).

This is the summer league. It isn’t the NBA, and players are going to be more defensive minded. Most of these players are fighting for a spot on an NBA roster, and defense matters. The Lakers scored sub-80 in 2 of their 3 games in California.

Their defense also played better as they started to gain experience, holding the Heat to 80. The Rockets have playmakers, but in their 1st game together, the offensive sets may not be efficient. With that in mind, take UNDER 181.5 (-110).
