The Warriors will reportedly play the Lakers on NBA opening night and NBA fans are completely devastated

Not the Lakers. Not again.

Here we go again, y’all. The Lakers are reportedly back on national television. Again. This time to start the NBA season.

You’d think that maybe the NBA would’ve learned from plastering the Lakers on national television every other night last season. Fans complained all year long. But nope. We’re back at it again. Even after they completely missed the playoffs.

It’s been this way for years, obviously. But there are more than enough good basketball teams to go around. You’d think the NBA might choose one of them to headline the league’s opening night.

Instead, we’re getting Lakers vs. Warriors for the 2nd year in a row, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Sigh. I guess you can understand this decision. LeBron James vs. Steph Curry is always going to be the biggest draw in the league while those two are playing. But, man. After such a disappointing year last year, it’d just be great to put eyes on other teams.

Maybe the NBA knows something we don’t? Maybe the Kyrie Irving trade is happening? Or maybe they just expect the Lakers to be better? Who knows?

But man. Grizzlies vs. Warriors was right there. Or maybe even the Mavericks. Or, you know, just another team that at least made the playoffs last year?

Nope. Lakers. Again. Sigh. Fans weren’t here for this.

Another change to the league’s regular-season calendar — the in-season tournament — is expected to be the subject of further discussion at Tuesday’s meeting, sources said. Commissioner Adam Silver and the league has been discussing the in-season tournament and its impact on the schedule and revenues on a continuing basis with the Players Association. Both the play-in and in-season tournaments need to be collectively bargained with the union.

Talks have centered on an in-season tournament that would begin with pool play as part of the regular-season schedule prior to teams with the best records advancing to an eight-team, single-elimination tournament expected to culminate before Christmas, sources told ESPN. One proposal would also shorten the regular season from 82 to 78 games, sources said.
