Does Alex Caruso making All-Defense Second Team change anything for the Chicago Bulls?

What might this mean for the future of the Bulls?

Adding just a little bit more of a silver lining to the Chicago Bulls lost season, we have learned the veteran Bulls guard Alex Caruso has been honored by being voted onto the NBA’s 2024 All-Defensive Second Team.

Caruso shares that honor with Boston Celtics’ Jrue Holiday and Derrick White, the Orlando Magic’s Jalen Suggs, and Minnesota Timberwolves’ Jaden McDaniels. Caruso did not make the cut for the First Team made up of Minnesota’s Rudy Gobert, San Antonio the Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama, the Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo, the Los Angeles Lakers’ Anthony Davis, and the New Orleans Pelicans’ Herb Jones.

What might this mean for the future of the Bulls given the limited time left on his contract?

The folks behind the “Bulls Central” YouTube channel took a deep dive into what this accolade might mean for Chicago on a recent episode of their show. Take a look at the clip embedded above.

Bulls guard Alex Caruso makes All-Defensive Second Team

Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team.

For the second year in a row, the Chicago Bulls have a player on an All-Defensive Team, and for the second year in a row, that player is Alex Caruso. The All-Defensive teams were announced on Tuesday, and Caruso was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team.

Alongside Caruso on the Second Team are Boston Celtics guards Jrue Holiday and Derrick White, Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs, and Minnesota Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels. Meanwhile, the First Team is comprised of Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert, San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama, Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo, Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis, and New Orleans Pelicans forward Herb Jones.

Caruso has one year left on his current contract, meaning the Bulls will have to work with him on a new deal or risk losing him in the 2025 offseason.

He has been a crucial part of the Bulls’ success but also a common name thrown around in trade rumors over the past two seasons.

Lu Dort received a 1st Team vote but did not make All-NBA Defensive Team

The NBA announced All-NBA Defensive teams. OKC Thunder wing Lu Dort received votes but did not make the team.

Oklahoma City Thunder wing Lu Dort did not make an All-NBA Defensive Team, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t get any recognition.

The second-year player received one First Team and 15 Second Team votes. The NBA announced the teams on Monday.

Dort received the third-most votes among players who were not selected for a team. Phoenix Suns wing Mikal Bridges had four First Team and 31 Second Team votes, while Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart finished with one vote for First Team and 20 for Second.

Despite the Thunder’s poor record, Dort showed his acumen on the defensive end of the court. He defended the opponent’s best player most night with little regard to position and saw his fouls tick down from his rookie year. He appeared in 52 of 72 games this season.

Bridges, the best defender on the Suns, played all 72 games. Smart appeared in 48 for the Celtics.

The most controversial selection was Philadelphia 76ers guard Matisse Thybulle, who only averaged 20 minutes per game. He was an absolute wrecking ball to offensive schemes, though, and with 1.6 steals and 1.1 blocks per game even with that relatively small minute count, the stats back up the eye test.

All-Defensive First Team

  • Guard: Ben Simmons, Philadelphia 76ers
  • Guard: Jrue Holiday, Milwaukee Bucks
  • Forward: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks
  • Forward: Draymond Green, Golden State Warriors
  • Center: Rudy Gobert, Utah Jazz

All-Defensive Second Team

  • Guard: Matisse Thybulle, Philadelphia 76ers
  • Guard: Jimmy Butler, Miami Heat
  • Forward: Kawhi Leonard, Los Angeles Clippers
  • Forward: Bam Adebayo, Miami Heat
  • Center: Joel Embiid, Philadelphia 76ers

Former Michigan State Spartan Draymond Green has been named to the 2020-21 NBA All-Defensive Team.

Green is joined by Rudy Gobert, Ben Simmons, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jrue Holiday on the NBA All-Defensive first team, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.

This is the sixth time in Green’s career that he was named to the NBA All-Defensive team, with this being the fourth time he was a first-teamer.
