LeBron James NBA 2K ratings through the years

One of the most exciting parts of buying NBA 2K annually is seeing the player ratings and how they’ve changed from seasons prior, particularly for one’s favorite players.

One player who has always ranked highly in the game is, of course, LeBron James, who was rated 78 as a rookie by NBA 2K, 88 as a sophomore and then never fell back below 94.

NBA 2K25 has the GOAT candidate rated as a 95, which could prove low depending on how James performs this season.

Below, check out LeBron James’ NBA 2K ratings through the years.

Today, we have decided to take a look at the players with the best average ratings in NBA 2K history throughout their various times featured in the game. It shouldn’t come as a surprise who finishes first on this list, as LeBron James has been one of the best players in the world for the past 20 years.

However, after James, things do get interesting. We’ll give you a hint: Another Los Angeles Lakers legend finishes second on the list.

Oh, and for those curious, Michael Jordan was only featured in NBA 2K during his time with the Washington Wizards, but he still managed to be a Top 10 player.

Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and Giannis Antetokounmpo are tied for the best rating in NBA 2K25

The ‘NBA 2K25’ video game comes out on September 6.

NBA 2K has released some ratings for the top players in the video game and the three best players are hardly a surprise.

Denver’s Nikola Jokic, Dallas’ Luka Doncic, and Milwaukee’s Giannis Giannis Antetokounmpo are tied for the top honor in the game. All three players will begin the year with a 97 rating, though they may begin to separate themselves from the pack as the game updates during the season.

Next up are Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Joel Embiid, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Jayson Tatum, Kevin Durant, and Anthony Davis.

Former Duke basketball star Dereck Lively II breaks into NBA 2K Top 100 after rookie year

After his rookie season included a trip to the NBA Finals, former Duke basketball star Dereck Lively II made the top 100 players in NBA 2K25.

NBA 2K began slowly releasing its top 100 players in the upcoming edition of the popular video game, NBA 2K25, on Monday.

While top Duke names like [autotag]Jayson Tatum[/autotag] and [autotag]Zion Williamson[/autotag] need to wait to find out where they fit in the NBA hierarchy, one former Blue Devil got some great news in the first round of the release.

Dereck Lively II, the center who just finished his rookie season with the Dallas Mavericks, came in as the 98th-best player in the game with an 81 overall rating.

Lively went to the NBA Finals in his debut season, putting up four double-doubles over the course of Dallas’s playoff run. He earned national praise for his performance in the second round, getting a shoutout from the dictionary as the Mavericks unseated the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder.

The seven-footer averaged 8.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game as a rookie, making the starting lineup 42 times in the regular season.

RJ Barrett, another former Blue Devil who just reached the Olympic quarterfinals with the Canadian national team, also earned an 81 overall rating, finishing 86th on the ranking.

NBA 2K25 ranks Rockets guards Jalen Green, Fred VanVleet in top 60 players

Rockets guards Jalen Green and Fred VanVleet checked in at No. 56 and No. 57, respectively, on NBA 2K25’s top players ranking.

To help promote the September 6 release of the annual NBA 2K video game (this year, known as NBA 2K25), developers are gradually releasing overall ratings for players around the league.

For example, we recently learned that Houston Rockets guard Reed Sheppard has a 73 overall rating — third-best among rookies. To determine each player’s value, various basketball skills are rated on a scale from 1 to 100, and the average helps form an overall rating.

On Tuesday, NBA 2K leaders released overall ratings for players ranked from 51 to 100 in the league. Rockets guards Jalen Green and Fred VanVleet were ranked at No. 56 and No. 57, respectively, with an overall rating of 84. Interestingly enough, they were just in front of former Houston superstar James Harden, who checks in at No. 58 as he enters his second season with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Rockets center Alperen Sengun isn’t on the 51-to-100 list, so presumably he will be included among NBA 2K25’s top 50 players entering the 2024-25 season. The full 51-to-100 list is available here.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are in NBA2K25 and WNBA fans had mixed reactions about the face scans

This is a major improvement for WNBA video game fans.

If you enjoy playing sports video games, you’ll probably want to get your hands on NBA 2K25 once it comes out later this season on September 6.

Although the WNBA season just had its All-Star Game and will soon return to action after a break for the Olympics, basketball fans have not yet had the chance to play as anyone from this exciting rookie class.

That means that those enjoying NBA 2K24 are still playing as the Indiana Fever without Caitlin Clark or the Chicago Sky without Angel Reese. But fortunately, that won’t last much longer as folks will soon get the opportunity to give the game a spin with their favorite first-year pros.

Here is your first look at Indiana’s Clark in the popular video game:

They definitely did a good job capturing certain elements of Clark, especially considering it seems she didn’t use a face scan.

Meanwhile, this is your first look at Chicago’s Reese:

Not bad!

In fact, this is perhaps even better than Clark’s likeness.

Jayson Tatum has been named as the NBA 2K25 cover athlete.

Jayson Tatum is the NBA 2K25 cover athlete. The Boston Celtics superstar is joined by A’ja Wilson, who will also be a cover athlete for the upcoming installment of the popular 2K series. Tatum’s addition comes hot on the heels of his first NBA championship. He is currently away with Team USA, preparing for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he could win his second Olympic Gold Medal.

In recent years, Tatum has become one of the most popular players in the NBA. He is one of the future faces of the company and the best player on the most historical team.

NBA 2K has achieved a remarkable 25-year run, captivating basketball enthusiasts and video game fans worldwide. Over the years, many great players have been featured in the main covers and alternate editions of this iconic game. Among the elite few who have made frequent appearances: Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kevin Durant.

Check out the ranking below:

Jayson Tatum and A’ja Wilson (and Vince Carter!) revealed as NBA 2K25 cover athletes

The Vince Carter cover is amazing.

It’ll be tough for any sports video game to generate excitement right now with the highly anticipated release of College Football 25 coming this month, but NBA 2K is going to try.

The popular basketball franchise revealed the cover athletes for its upcoming NBA 2K25 game, and they include a couple of champions in Jayson Tatum and A’ja Wilson, and Mr. Half Man, Half Amazing himself, Vince Carter.

Tatum is on the cover of the standard edition of NBA 2K25, while two-time MVP Wilson is on the WNBA edition cover. The two are featured side-by-side on the All-Star edition.

The legend Carter is on the Hall of Fame edition cover in a picture from his early days with the Toronto Raptors when he won the 2000 dunk contest, and it’s beautiful.

I feel confident saying that Carter cover is already one of the best 2K covers ever. It could also be a potential tease to something related to the dunk contest, which would be awesome.

Every NBA 2K cover star since 1999

Let’s have a look at every NBA 2K cover athlete from the past two decades.

The NBA 2K series has been around for over two decades. Yes, the basketball sim is old enough to order a drink in every state. They grow up so fast.

We thought it best to look back on every cover athlete that there’s ever been — and there’s probably more than you think. In the early days, Allen Iverson single-handedly carried the series, but before long, loads of icons graced NBA 2K‘s cover. Some of them have done so multiple times, even. Particularly a fellow that made 23 such a famous number.

Interestingly enough, several entries feature numerous athletes. NBA 2K16, for example, has seven different cover stars — some of which only came out in specific regions. Like, Canada had a custom edition of NBA 2K18! Wild stuff.

Alright, enough chit-chat. Let’s get into it.
