That’s interesting: NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the New Orleans Saints are signing Malcolm Perry to their practice squad, which was confirmed by the Times-Picayune | Advocate’s Amie Just. Perry starred as a quarterback for the United States Naval Academy while also seeing time in the slot as a receiver, so he offers a versatile skills set despite some athletic limitations (having timed the 40-yard dash in just 4.63 seconds while weighing in at 5-foot-9 and 186 pounds, with middling scores in other testing drills).

Initially drafted in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL draft by the Miami Dolphins, Perry appeared in nine games and caught 9 of 13 targets for 92 receiving yards, catching a touchdown pass and converting 4 first downs. He also saw limited work as a returner on punts and kickoffs. The Dolphins released him during final roster cuts this summer and the New England Patriots acted quickly to claim him. But a foot injury in practice sidelined him on the injured reserve list until the Patriots released him on Nov. 17.

Now he’s joining the Saints practice squad with an opportunity to be signed to the active roster. They’ve got Deonte Harris, Tre’Quan Smith, Marquez Callaway, Kenny Stills, Lil’Jordan Humphrey, and an injured Ty Montgomery on the 53-man roster with Easop Winston Jr. and rookie draft pick Kawaan Baker also on the practice squad, but it’s possible someone may be released to make room for Perry. Veteran backup Kevin White was also let go last week.

Navy – Notre Dame football game to be played at M&T Bank Stadium in 2022

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Navy Midshipman will match up to play football on November 12, 2022 at M&T Bank Stadium

M&T Bank Stadium has been a premiere venue ever since it was opened in 1998. Football games, concerts, and other events have been the primary use of the site, and the location provides a great experience.

It was announced that the football programs of the Naval Academy and the University of Notre Dame will be matching up at M&T Bank Stadium on November 12th, 2022. The Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk said in a news release that M&T Bank Stadium is one of the “finest facilities in all of sports”.

“Every time we come to Baltimore the Navy football family has an extraordinary experience in one of the finest facilities in all of sports.”

Gladchuk also went into detail on the growing relationship between the Baltimore Ravens and the Naval Academy.

“Our dealings with the Ravens have grown over the years to the point of a much appreciated and constructive professional relationship.  The Baltimore Ravens are a great organization that do everything in a first-class manner and our coaches, players, alumni, and fans know it. We are very much looking forward to our trip to Baltimore in 2022.”

Ravens president Dick Cass said that it’s “special” to have Navy return to M&T Bank Stadium.

“It’s special for the Ravens and Baltimore to have Navy returning to M&T Bank Stadium for a game. Having Navy play here creates a special event that the whole area embraces. Because of the historical prominence and popularity of Navy and Notre Dame, this game will also produce regional and national attention, including visitors from around the country. This long-term rivalry is filled with memorable players, coaches, games and plays, and there will be more in 2022 when they meet in Baltimore. We’re very excited to host this event.”

The 2022 bout between Navy and Notre Dame will mark the first matchup between the two hosted by M&T Bank Stadium since 2008. In that game, Notre Dame came out on top in a 27-21 thriller. This will be the 23rd time that the Irish and the Midshipmen will meet in Baltimore to play football.

Ravens QB Lamar Jackson congratulates Naval Academy graduates in video

With the coronavirus pandemic still keeping public gatherings from taking place, Naval Academy graduates got some love from Lamar Jackson

It’s that time of the year for many as graduations are underway. The Naval Academy is just one of the groups in the Class of 2020 to wrap up this phase of their lives and Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was there to thank and congratulate them. In video at least.

With the coronavirus pandemic still limiting public interactions, graduations are far from standard. To help ease the difficulty of working so hard and not quite getting the graduation some may have wanted, Jackson recorded a video.

Jackson was far from the only high-profile sports personality to offer his thoughts and congratulations. Las Vegas coach Jon Gruden and New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick recorded videos, as did players like Houston Texans defender J.J. Watt and Olympic gymnast Simone Biles.

Navy football team flies on Patriots’ plane to Liberty Bowl

The Naval Academy made quite the ride to the LIberty Bowl … on the New England Patriots’ team charter.

The New England Patriots showed a lot of spirit and good will. And no one will complain about this act. The company that runs the plane for the AFC East champs worked out an arrangement allowing allowed the Navy football team to arrive in Memphis for its Liberty Bowl game in style.

Check this ride out:

Scott Strasemeier, the Navy’s senior associate athletic director, thanked Patriots owner Robert Kraft for letting the team use the jet for the bowl game, which will be played Dec. 31 against Kansas State.

“The NAAA and the New England Patriots have a longstanding relationship, which certainly did not hurt our ability to work out an agreement with the Patriots,” Strasemeier said in a statement. “We are extremely grateful for the support and the cooperation we received from Mr. Kraft and his staff.”

The Naval Academy wanted to make sure everyone knew it contracted for the charter: Strasemeier told The Hill that the plane was contracted by Team 125, which operates it for the NFL team.

Notre Dame Almanac: Charlie Weis’s Dumbest Decision

That loss to Navy was laughable and anyone with any sense saw how over-matched Notre Dame had become, not in terms of talent, but in terms of employing a know-it-all coach who actually didn’t know a sneeze from a wet fart.

With it being Navy week I started to try and think of the most-memorable moments in the rivalry to me.  For a series that has been played seemingly forever, I have very few actual lasting memories of it.  With that said, a few did come to mind from games I remember watching.

2002 – A week after getting upset against Boston College, the Irish trailed 23-15 entering the fourth quarter before Carlyle Holiday threw two late touchdown passes, the final being the go-ahead score to Omar Jenkins to avoid a disasterous loss to a 1-7 Navy team.

2012 – Ten years later the Irish kicked off their season in Ireland, dismantling Navy 50-10.  Stephon Tuitt’s fumble return for a touchdown helped blow things wide open on an afternoon that belonged to the Irish, even abroad in Dublin.

And the single worst in-game-decision Charlie Weis made at Notre Dame, which is saying something…
