Nationals at Braves: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Patrick Corbin vs. RHP Josh Tomlin

Corbin enters with a 2-3 record, 3.79 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and .314 OBP across 40 1/3 innings in his seven starts while serving up six home runs.

  • Corbin has faced divisional foes in each of his past three outings, going 0-2 with a 3.63 ERA. He has yet to face the Braves this season.
  • Corbin allowed just two earned runs, five hits and three walks in five innings in a loss at the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday. He received zero runs of support, and the Nats have backed him with a total of just seven runs in his past four outings.

Tomlin has posted a 1-2 record, 4.37 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in three starts and eight relief appearances this season while striking out 24 batters over his 22 2/3 innings.

  • Tomlin moved into the rotation on Aug. 18 in Washington, allowing two earned runs, six hits and a walk in a no-decision.

Prediction

Braves 6, Nationals 4

Moneyline (ML)

The BRAVES (-129) turned to Tomlin out of desperation for one of their rotation spots and he has done well. He won’t eat a ton of innings, as he is still getting stretched out, but he has a high strikeout rate and is pitching much better than Corbin overall.

A winning $10 bet on Atlanta returns a profit of $7.75 if they’re victorious.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The BRAVES (-1.5, +150) are worth a look at this price level. In each of Atlanta’s past five wins, it has won by at least three runs, and has won seven of its past nine by at least two runs.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 9.5 (-110) is the lean here, ever so slightly. We have seen an average of 10.3 runs per game in the first three games in this series, and the Over is 5-0-2 in Atlanta’s past seven, while going 5-2-1 in Washington’s previous eight.

Washington Nationals at Boston Red Sox odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Washington Nationals at Boston Red Sox with MLB betting picks, tips and bets.

The Washington Nationals (12-17) and Boston Red Sox (10-22) tangle Saturday in Fenway Park at 7:30 p.m. ET. We analyze the Nationals-Red Sox MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Nationals at Red Sox: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Anibal Sanchez vs. RHP Chris Mazza

Sanchez has posted a 1-3 record, 6.48 ERA and 1.72 WHIP with 19 strikeouts across 25 innings over five starts.

  • Sanchez has made two appearances against AL East foes, going 0-2 with a 8.02 ERA and four home runs allowed in 10 1/3 innings over two starts.
  • Sanchez was sharp last time out, however, recording his first quality start of the season Aug. 23 vs. the Miami Marlins. He allowed just one earned run, five hits and no walks across seven innings for his first win.

Mazza has 0-1 with a 6.35 ERA and 2.12 WHIP in 5 2/3 innings in one start and one relief appearance.

  • This will be just the second start of Mazza’s MLB career, and the 12th appearance overall in two seasons with the New York Mets and Red Sox.
  • Boston’s pitching staff ranks dead-last in the majors with a 6.18 ERA and 1.62 WHIP.

Prediction

Nationals 9, Red Sox 6

Moneyline (ML)

The NATIONALS (-112) haven’t exactly lit the world afire in defense of their world title, but a key to why they were able to go on a championship run in 2019 was winning on the road. They’re still 16-5 in the previous 21 games away from home dating back to last postseason. They’re 5-1 in the past eight games away from Washington against a left-handed starter.

An $11.20 winning bet on the Nationals (-112) returns a profit of $10.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The NATIONALS (-1.5, +125) should be able to keep the offensive train rolling against the untested Mazza and the league’s worst pitching staff. A double-digit run total isn’t out of the question.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 11 (-110) is the way to be. Washington has hit the Over in seven straight against left-handed starting pitchers, and five in a row as a favorite. The Over is also 5-1-1 in Boston’s past seven at Fenway.

Washington Nationals at Atlanta Braves odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Washington Nationals at Atlanta Braves sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Washington Nationals (9-12) and host Atlanta Braves (14-11) wrap up their three-game series Wednesday at Truist Park with a 7:10 p.m. ET first pitch (on ESPN). We analyze the Nationals-Braves MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Nationals at Braves: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Erick Fedde vs. RHP Kyle Wright

Fedde has managed a 1-1 record with a 2.55 ERA and 1.53 WHIP across 17 2/3 innings over two starts and three relief appearances so far this season.

  • Fedde is coming off his most impressive outing of the season, working 5 1/3 scoreless innings of relief with two hits and three walks allowed in a win at the Baltimore Orioles Friday.
  • Fedde threw 39 of his 69 pitches for strikes with a wild pitch and 13 first-pitch strikes to the 21 batters he faced last time out.

Also see: BaseballHQ Fantasy Baseball

Wright is 0-3 with a 7.20 ERA, 2.20 WHIP and 12 strikeouts across 15 innings over four starts.

  • Wright has struggled mightily this season, allowing 17 hits while also issuing 16 walks in his 15 innings. The good news is that he has allowed just two homers in his four outings.
  • On a positive note, Wright allowed five hits with four walks in 3 1/3 scoreless innings in his only appearance at home this season against the New York Mets back on Aug. 2.

Prediction

Nationals 9, Braves 6

Moneyline (ML)

The NATIONALS (+120) are again underdogs – they won as +110 dogs Tuesday. Wright has been abysmal for the Braves (-134), so you cannot back the home side here. Roll with the defending champs yet again.

A winning $10 bet on Washington returns a profit of $12, while the Braves fetch a profit of $7.46 on a $10 wager if they’re victorious.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The NATIONALS (+1.5, -167) are a little expensive, but taking them on the run line with a little extra insurance isn’t a bad play. Fedde has been a little inconsistent, although nowhere near as shaky as his counterpart Wright.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 10 (-110) has cashed seven in a row for the Nationals, including 5-0 in the past five as an underdog and 4-0 in the previous four against NL East foes. The Over is also 5-1-1 in the past seven for the Braves vs. RHP, while going 5-2 in the past seven inside the division.

Washington Nationals at Atlanta Braves odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s Washington Nationals at Atlanta Braves sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Washington Nationals (8-11) visit the Atlanta Braves (13-10) for a three-game set at Truist Park, starting Monday at 7:10 p.m. ET. We analyze the Nationals-Braves MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Sunday: Both clubs won to take two of three in their respective weekend series. The Nationals won at the Baltimore Orioles 6-5, while the Braves blanked the Miami Marlins 4-0.

Nationals at Braves: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Anibal Sanchez vs. RHP Touki Toussaint

Sanchez this season: 0-3, 9.69 ERA (14 ER, 13 IP) in 3 starts

  • Last start: Loss, 2 2/3 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 2 K at New York Mets Wednesday – Nats lost 11-6
  • 2019 vs. Braves: 3-0, 3.41 ERA (11 ER, 29 IP) in 5 starts
  • Career vs. Braves: 8-11, 4.64 ERA (67 ER, 130 IP) in 23 starts

Toussaint this season: 0-1, 7.27 ERA (14 ER, 17 1/3 IP) in 4 games (3 starts)

  • Last start: Loss, 5 ER, 4 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 3 K at New York Yankees Tuesday – Braves lost 9-6

Prediction

Braves 5, Nationals 3

Moneyline (ML)

The Nationals (+140) would be the play if any of their other SPs were taking the mound, but with Sanchez and his 9.69 ERA and 2.15 WHIP on the hill, they cannot be trusted. I’m putting my money on the BRAVES (-154), making this my STRONGEST PLAY, as the two NL East rivals meet for the first time in 2020.

New to sports betting? Every $1.54 bet on the Braves ML profits $1 if they win. A $1 winning bet on the Nationals profits $1.40.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS. Both clubs are flat-out awful against the run line. Atlanta (-1, -115) is 1-6 vs. the RL in its last seven games and 3-9 in its last 12. Washington (+1, -106) is also 1-6 vs. the RL in its last seven and an even worse 2-10 in its last 12. No thanks!

Over/Under (O/U)

I’d lean to the Over 10 (-110) if Acuna and Albies were in the Atlanta lineup, but they’re both on the 10-day injured list. As for Washington, opponents scored 11 runs in each of Sanchez’s last two starts.

Back to the Braves: Their last five wins – and seven of their last eight – haven’t seen more than 8 total runs scored (by both teams). Just too many contradicting trends, making this a PASS.
