This is why it’s hard to bet on Chris Stapleton’s Super Bowl national anthem performance

Wanted: Any evidence of Chris Stapleton previously signing the anthem

Two of the most popular novelty prop bets during the Super Bowl each year are settled before the game even kicks off: the coin flip and the over/under on the national anthem.

Do these have anything to do with the actual game? Rarely!

But they sure are fun to bet on and get a quick result to start off Super Bowl Sunday. Except betting on the national anthem has become a bit more difficult this February thanks to this year’s performer.

Fresh of his appearance at The Grammy’s, Chris Stapleton has the honor of singing the The Star-Spangled Banner with the over/under set at 125 seconds. The problem is that there’s no footage anywhere online of Stapleton singing the anthem before. Which isn’t to say he’s never done it. Just that no one seems able to find any video proving as much.

Fortunately, there is some recent history and past trends worth looking into before placing your bets, as Bleacher Report dug into.

That may or may not make betting on the anthem any easier, but it’s good context to have before placing your wagers. Or maybe it’s a sign to skip betting on them anthem this year altogether.

Either way, it’ll be exciting to see this one play out.
