Falcons LB Nate Landman to miss Wednesday’s practice, head coach Arthur Smith told reporters

The Atlanta Falcons will return to practice on Wednesday without linebacker Nate Landman, head coach Arthur Smith told reporters this afternoon. When asked about Landman’s status, Smith said it was “nothing significant,” per team reporter Terrin Waack.

Landman, a former undrafted free agent out of Colorado, has thrived since entering the starting lineup back in Week 4 for an injured Troy Andersen. Stay tuned for the team’s first Week 13 injury report this afternoon for an official update.

Here’s a look at the 20 highest-graded Falcons players at the bye week, according to Pro Football Focus‘ overall season grades.

#Falcons Top 25 PFF Grades: LB Nate Landman leads Atlanta in Week 3 loss to Lions

The Atlanta Falcons have stayed relatively healthy this season, but the team may have lost starting linebacker Troy Andersen for the year after he suffered a shoulder injury in Week 3.

Luckily for the Falcons, backup linebacker Nate Landman is well-equipped to step in if necessary. During Sunday’s 20-6 loss to the Lions, Landman earned the team’s highest Pro Football Focus grade.

Check out the Falcons’ top 25 PFF grades from Week 3 below.

Falcons sign 19 players to reserve/future contracts

The #Falcons signed 19 players, including LB Nate Landman and G Justin Shaffer, to reserve/future contracts

Just a few hours after defensive coordinator Dean Pees announced his retirement, the Falcons signed 18 players to reserve/future contracts. Linebacker Nate Landman and guard Justin Shaffer were among those initially signed.

The team added guard Kyle Hinton on Wednesday, bringing the total to 19 reserve/future contracts. Check out all 19 below.

Falcons sign LB Nate Landman to practice squad

The #Falcons have brought Nate Landman back to Atlanta, signing the linebacker to their practice squad on Tuesday

There was a bit of a domino effect created once the Atlanta Falcons made the decision to bench quarterback Marcus Mariota for rookie Desmond Ridder.

As head coach Arthur Smith explained on Monday, Mariota is opting to have a chronic knee issue looked at and will likely be placed on the injured reserve list. Without a backup quarterback, the Falcons signed Logan Woodside off of the Titans’ practice squad over the weekend.

However, Atlanta was forced to waive linebacker Nate Landman in order to free up a roster spot for Woodside. Landman, an undrafted free agent out of Colorado who made the roster out of training camp, cleared waivers and has since signed with the Falcons’ practice squad.

The team also released Parker Ferguson to make room for Landman, and waived running back Damien Williams on Tuesday.

Nate Landman records first career NFL tackle

Nate Landman got on the stat sheet Sunday in the Falcons’ win

Out of all of the former Colorado Buffaloes to play in the NFL, Laviska Shenault Jr. made the most noise on Sunday with a long touchdown for the Carolina Panthers.

However, one other notable story is Nate Landman. The Buffs linebacker went undrafted but earned a deal with the Atlanta Falcons. Landman was so impressive in camp that he wound up earning a spot on the 53-man roster.

On Sunday, as the Falcons faced the Seattle Seahawks, Landman saw his name end up in the box score with his first career regular season tackle.

The Falcons won, 27-23, and Landman was officially credited with an assist.

After a terrific offseason, it was expected that Landman would be able to compete for playing time, especially on a young team such as the Falcons, and he has done just that through the first three weeks of the season.

This was also the Falcons’ first victory of the year, so this was a fun day for Landman overall. As the season progresses, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get even more playing time with the Falcons still tweaking their roster.

Nate Landman makes Falcons’ 53-man roster

Nate Landman made the Falcons’ 53-man roster

Some great news came out of Atlanta on Tuesday with former CU Buff Nate Landman making the Atlanta Falcons’ 53-man roster to begin his rookie season in the NFL.

Landman is now one of 10 Falcons linebackers set to be in Atlanta for their season opener against the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 11. The Falcons’ defense also features another former Buff, CB Isaiah Oliver, who played with Landman in Boulder in 2017.

During the preseason, Landman played in all three games and totaled at least four tackles in each contest. His best performance came in the Falcons’ preseason finale against the Jaguars. “The Hammer” recorded three solo tackles, a sack and an interception, likely solidifying his spot on the 53-man.

Nate Landman working to earn spot on Falcons roster

Nate Landman is looking to earn a spot on the Falcons roster

The Colorado Buffaloes added a few more alums to the NFL ranks this spring. Carson Wells signed with the Cincinnati Bengals and Nate Landman signed a deal with the Atlanta Falcons after both players went undrafted in the 2022 NFL draft.

Landman has been making a ton of noise in Falcons training camp, and Buffs fans aren’t surprised one bit after he put together an impressive career in Boulder.

As the NFL season approaches and rosters start to get trimmed down, all eyes are on Landman. Will he make the roster or not?

It looks like he’s battling it out for Atlanta’s final spot in the linebacker’s room.

Landman brings a ton of talent and college experience, and the Falcons’ young roster could allow him to breakout during his rookie season.

If Landman can make the roster, he should have a clear path to consistent playing time. The Falcons aren’t expected to win very many games this season, so perhaps the coaching staff takes a deep look at some of the rookies to see what the future holds for these players.

The Falcons play the Detroit Lions in a preseason game on Friday and we’ll be monitoring the usage of Landman.

Nate Landman headed to Atlanta Falcons on free agent deal

Nate Landman is an Atlanta Falcon!

For Colorado football’s slew of NFL hopefuls, this weekend’s draft came and went without any Buff being called in Las Vegas. It was the first draft since 2016 in fact that no Buff went. However, not long after the final pick of round seven was announced on Saturday, CU linebacker Nate Landman was able to sign a free-agent deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

Landman is tied for fifth in Colorado history with 409 career tackles over 47 career games from 2017-21. While a mid-season injury put somewhat of a damper on his fifth and final season with the Buffs, he ended his college career as a two-time Butkus Award semifinalist.

The Falcons finished last season 7-10 with a defense that allowed 131.9 yards per game — sixth-most in the NFL. So, if Landman can stay healthy, he could be a big piece in revamping Atlanta’s defense.

Landman will also get an opportunity to reunite with former CU defensive back Isaiah Oliver, who recently resigned with the Falcons. The duo overlapped for one season in Boulder back in 2017.
