Huskers alum shining at Shrine Bowl practices

Nash Hutmacher is turning heads.

Former Nebraska defensive lineman Nash Hutmacher is performing at a high level in Shrine Bowl practices. NFL analyst Tony Pauline called him out for his stellar play on Saturday.

This is no surprise to Nebraska fans, as Hutmacher has a strong 2024 season overall. He had 24 combined tackles and two sacks on the season. Overall, he had a very successful Nebraska career, as he played in 49 games. He recorded 79 combined tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks on the season.

Hutmacher formed a dynamic duo with fellow defensive lineman Ty Robinson. They were able to hold down the defensive line together and were a significant part of the unit’s success.

Now, it appears he is turning heads on a national level. The Shrine Bowl will be a tremendous chance to boost his stock. We have seen this happen before with Huskers players, with Trey Palmer being a prime example. A continued strong week could do him wonders.

Four Huskers receive East-West Shrine Bowl invites

Four Nebraska football players were selected to the East-West Shrine Bowl.

Four members of the Nebraska football program were invited to the East-West Shrine Bowl on Wednesday evening.

Defensive linemen Ty Robinson and Nash Hutmacher as well as wide receiver Isaiah Neyor, and defensive back Tommi Hill were invited to the game.

Robinson and Hutmacher have been key pieces for the defensive line this year. Robinson has recorded 23 tackles and five sacks on the season. Hutmacher has been able to produce as well. He has tallied 18 tackles and two sacks on the year.

Hill has emerged as a key piece of the secondary despite battling plantar fasciitis throughout the entire year. He has 19 tackles on the year and recorded a pick-six against the Colorado Buffaloes back in September.

Neyor has proven to be a veteran playmaker in a young Huskers offense. The Texas Longhorns transfer has 25 catches for 48 yards and five touchdowns. He is coming off a stellar game against the UCLA Bruins that saw him record four catches for 89 yards and a touchdown.

The Huskers have undoubtedly had strong play from seniors this year. Their legacy could continue to grow this season alone, especially if the Huskers make the elusive bowl game.

The Nebraska wrestling team competed in a three-team meet on Saturday afternoon, hosting Wyoming and Northern Iowa. The Huskers swept the triangular, crushing the Cowboys 44-3 and sneaking away from the Wildcats 18-17.

The triangular also acted as the Nebraska wrestling debut for defensive lineman Nash Hutmacher. The Blackshirt returned to the mat for the first time since 2020. Hutmacher joined Nebraska wrestling after spending three seasons playing football.
