Recapping NFL Honors as Browns go 4-for-4 on the night

In case you missed out on the NFL Honors, Myles Garrett, Kevin Stefanski, and the Browns cleaned up nicely.

The Cleveland Browns, highlighted by Myles Garrett and Kevin Stefanski, swept up all of the NFL Honors.

What a night it was for the Browns and their fans as their magical season saw injury after injury decimate their roster. Despite every ounce of adversity faced, the Browns finished the season with 11 wins, clinching a playoff berth for the first time since 2020.

While the season did not end as they had hoped that it would, the Browns’ year did not go unnoticed around the league by players, coaches, and AP voters. The results of those AP votes were revealed on Thursday night, and it could not have gone any better for those watching from Northeast Ohio.

They entered the evening with four players and coaches up for awards and left with all four of those personnel taking home hardware. Here is a recap of the NFL Honors festivities in Las Vegas on Thursday night.

Steelers fans burst into tears after Browns DE Myles Garrett beats out T.J. Watt for DPOY

Myles Garrett beat out T.J. Watt for Defensive Player of the Year, and Steelers fans took the opportunity to whine about it.

The Cleveland Browns saw many of their personnel take home awards at the NFL Honors, including defensive end Myles Garrett who won NFL Defensive Player of the Year. And those who root for the Pittsburgh Steelers made sure everyone heard them cry that T.J. Watt did not win the award.

Apparently, those who follow the Steelers think voters should look at box scores instead of the actual film when casting their votes for who should win the award. Watt had more sacks than Garrett, but Garrett was quite evidently a more prevalent player that opposing teams had to identify, double-team, triple-team, and make a point of emphasis on Sundays.

Even Watt himself took to social media to take a victim mentality after receiving the news that he would not win the award over Garrett.

Here are the best, most cringe-worthy reactions from Steelers fans after their beloved Watt finished runner-up to Garrett for NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Aggies alumnus and Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett wins NFL Defensive Player of the Year

The first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft has fulfilled his destiny by winning his first NFL Defensive Player of the Year award this week.

The first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft has fulfilled his destiny by winning the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award this week.

Texas A&M alumnus and Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett received the accolade for the first time on Wednesday night at the NFL Honors ceremony.

“Howdy!

“First of all, I wanna say all glory to the most high. Without Him, I would not be here in front of y’all today, thank you,” Garrett said. “I want to thank my lovely parents who are in attendance today. Without y’all love, support and being perfect examples for me, this wouldn’t be possible. I want to thank my brother, my sister, who have also been great examples for me.

“I want to thank the Browns organization for y’all believing in me. Jimmy and Dee Haslam, Andrew Barry, Kevin Stefanski, (and Jim) Schwartz, we had a helluva brotherhood that helped support me and get me here as well.

“I have a great team that has been around me for the last two years to help support me in my wellness. Shay, Coral, Nicole, my high school coach who I was able to bring here to be in attendance, coach Gonzo, thank you, it’s been a blessing.

“To the city of Cleveland, this one is for you! We’re going to bring something bigger home next time. Let’s go!”

Garrett was 1-of-4 NFL award winners from the Cleveland organization along with head coach Kevin Stefanski (Coach of the Year), defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz (Assistant Coach of the Year) and quarterback Joe Flacco (Comeback Player of the Year).

Browns fans rejoice on as Myles Garrett wins NFL Defensive Player of the Year

What a year for the Browns star pass rusher

Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett was absolutely dominant this year and it paid off with his first Defensive Player of the Year award. He was the best player on one of the league’s best defenses and found a way to impact every game in ways that didn’t always show up in the stat sheet.

When you look at the Indianapolis Colts game where he forced two fumbles, one of which was recovered for a touchdown, and blocked a field goal you see how dominant he was. The attention that Garrett garnered from opposing offenses helped his teammates make massive impacts as well with favorable matchups hoping to neutralize Garrett.

Browns fans have been defending their superstar all season saying that he was the most deserving player for the award. Here is a look at how fans reacted to another award going to a member of the Cleveland Browns winning a season award.

Myles Garrett of Browns named AP Defensive Player of the Year

The Browns’ Myles Garrett gains his first AP Defensive Player of the Year

The AP Defensive Player of the Year Award was given to Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night in Las Vegas.

Garrett had 14 sacks in leading a dominant Browns defense. On his career. he now has 88.5 sacks.

He was an AP first-team player and made the Pro Bowl.

Garrett also forced four fumbles and had 30 quarterback hits.

Micah Parsons defends Myles Garrett winning AP Defensive Player of the Year

Micah Parsons wasn’t unhappy about Myles Garrett winning NFL Defensive Player of the Year… but Parsons may have undersold himself in the process.

Any time there are awards, there are people who will be Loud Mad about the winners of those awards. And on Thursday, when some of the Associated Press NFL awards came out in advance of the NFL Honors show, that certainly happened.

One instance happened when Cleveland Browns edge-rusher Myles Garrett took home the AP Defensive Player of the Year award, which had one fan comparing stats between Garrett, Pittsburgh Steelers edge-rusher T.J. Watt, and Dallas Cowboys edge-rusher Micah Parsons. This individual had a real problem with the Garrett selection… but Garrett himself didn’t take issue at all.

Here’s what’s interesting, though — per Pro Football Focus’ advanced metrics, Garrett was double-teamed on 90 of his pass-rush snaps, and he totaled four sacks and 15 total pressures when he was doubled.

Parsons, on the other hand, faced double-teams on 117 of his pass-rushing snaps, and he compiled three sacks and 27 total pressures when he was doubled.

So, it was quite generous of Parsons to stand up for Garrett (spoiler: I’m an AP voter, and I voted for Parsons), and as far as making an impact with double-teams, Parsons was still The Man in 2023.

Even presented with the numbers, Parsons was firm in his opinion, which you certainly have to respect.

Browns DE Myles Garrett beats out T.J. Watt for NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award

Garrett takes home the hardware!

After a full season of debate, Cleveland Browns defensive end and five-time Pro Bowler Myles Garrett has been named NFL Defensive Player of the Year of T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Despite only racking up one sack down the stretch of the season, Garrett led the NFL in pressures and pass rush win rate, and was PFF’s highest-graded pass rusher all while seeing the most double teams in the NFL. NFL voters care about more than just the box score and see when a player impacts the game, which Garrett did prevalently for the Browns despite the lack of sacks.

Garrett finished the season with 14 sacks, a pass rush win rate of 27.4 percent, and 89 total pressures on over 100 fewer pass rush snaps than the likes of Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders and Aidan Hutchinson of the Detroit Lions.

This is the first NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award for the five-time Pro Bowler, and hopefully not the last as the Browns look to continue their dominance on the defensive side of the ball for the foreseeable future.

T.J. Watt seems to hint that Browns DE Myles Garrett has won NFL Defensive Player of the Year

It appears that Watt already knows the outcome.

The NFL Honors are just getting underway, but it appears the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award could have already been linked. Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is the betting favorite, and T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers is already lamenting on social media.

Garrett finished with 14 sacks on the season but led the NFL in pressures down the stretch despite finishing with just one sack over the back half of the season. He also led the NFL in pass rush win rate, was PFF’s highest-graded pass rusher, and was double-teamed more than any other pass rusher in the NFL.

This would be what we hope is the first of many dominating honors for Garrett. Even Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys, another finalist for the award, agrees with what seems to be the decision made by voters.

If this is the case, then Garrett wins a well-deserved honor after making his fifth Pro Bowl as the best player on the best defense in the NFL.

Did Steelers LB T.J. Watt leak he isn’t winning DPOY?

Did T.J. Watt tip the pick for DPOY?

The NFL Honors haven’t quite started yet but it seems the winners and losers already know their fate. At least this is what it sounds like from the Tweet Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt sent out indicating he is not winning Defensive Player of the Year.

Watt has been named Defensive Player of the Year multiple times this offseason by a variety of agencies but this is the one that really matters to the players. It’s been a two-man race between Watt and Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett and if this post is any indication, the NFL is going to give Garrett his first honor rather than give Watt his second.

Watt led the league with 19 sacks in 2023. This is the third time in his career he’s done it and is the only player in NFL history to accomplish such a feat.

LOOK: Browns players soaking in the rays at the Pro Bowl

Here are the best shots from the Pro Bowl, where five Browns players represented the city of Cleveland.

Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward, David Njoku, Wyatt Teller, and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah represented the Cleveland Browns at the Pro Bowl this weekend.

While the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs prepare for the Super Bowl, 30 other teams sent representatives to the Pro Bowl, capping off stellar seasons for those players. The Browns sent five this year, with wide receiver Amari Cooper and offensive guard Joel Bitonio opting to decline the event to recover from a season of injuries.

This was, however, the first Pro Bowl for Njoku, who is not as accustomed to the event as the five-timer Garrett.

One day, it would be nice to see the Browns have nobody represented at the Pro Bowl because they are preparing for the Super Bowl. For now, however, we get to celebrate players having a great time at the Pro Bowl that they earned after a hard-fought season.

Take a look at all of the shots of these Browns players enjoying their time at the Pro Bowl.
