LeBron James is currently unavailable in MultiVersus

Bugs Bunny can’t suplex King James for the time being.

It’s easy to forget that LeBron James is (hilariously) a playable character in MultiVersus, though he’s temporarily disabled as of Monday.

“Note to our MVPs: We will be disabling LeBron momentarily due to a critical bug,” Player First Games said on Twitter. “He’ll be reenabled shortly upon fix.”

As for what the bug in question might be — apparently, Lebron’s dunk ability, which removes the basketball from his hands, wasn’t doing so (thanks, VG247). Meaning King James could smack opponents around the map with no drawbacks. It’s an unfair advantage, so taking him out (for now) is the right call.

Typically, when characters are taken off the roster, fans are pretty upset. Just look at Overwatch 2‘s current Mei situation. MultiVersus fans are taking it in stride, though. Check out the reactions below.

Imagine explaining this situation to someone ten years ago. Truly, this is an all-time great out-of-context moment and will remain so until LeBron is back in the game.

The problems with LeBron arose following update 1.05 for MultiVersus. This patch brought heavily-requested additions like arcade mode, silly queue, and even Black Adam. Post-launch support for this one has been strong and will likely continue with how popular MultiVersus is these days.

Black Adam makes a thunderous Multiversus debut in new trailer

Following the cinematic success of Black Adam, the mighty hero is stepping into the Multiversus arena.

After plenty of teasing, Black Adam is finally available in MultiVersus  — and he’s looking pretty powerful in the new gameplay trailer.

On Monday, Warner Bros. Games made Black Adam playable in MultiVersus as part of update 1.05. While most people are probably more familiar with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s silver-screen spin on the character, MultiVersus digs into Black Adam’s comic book roots. He’s a bit more of a bad guy here, more or less.

Check out the MultiVersus‘ Black Adam gameplay trailer for yourself below. It’s a good watch for anyone aching to see the much-anticipated brawl with Superman.

Poor Gizmo. What did that little furball ever do to deserve such a thrashing? It’s brutal.

Loads more came in this patch, including arcade mode, a silly queue, and more — check out our full breakdown for in-depth details. It’s probably one of the most extensive updates MultiVersus has had thus far.

MultiVersus came out back in August and quickly became a massive hit, adding other iconic characters like Morty Smith, Rick Sanchez, and Stripe from Gremlins. This free-to-play brawler has a lot to it, so it’s worth looking at our beginner tips and character tier list before jumping in.

MultiVersus has been going strong since its official launch in July and updates are coming in thick and fast, with this one bringing us a brand-new character. While the addition of Black Adam may be the main headline, there’s a bunch of other exciting stuff in this update too such as new maps, new cosmetics, and the beginnings of a traditional arcade mode.

If you’re new to the game, then make sure you check out our beginner’s guide and our character tier list to get a leg-up at the start.

Warner Bros. announces MultiVersus Halloween event and new skins

The MultiVersus Halloween event includes multiple exclusive skins, and Stripe from Gremlins joins the fighting game as well

Warner Bros. announced the 2022 MultiVersus Halloween event, which starts on Oct. 13, 2022, and runs through Nov. 8, 2022, and features limited-time currency players can spend on exclusive new skins. Stripe, a new assassin-class character from the classic movie Gremlins, also joins the fray, wielding claws, chainsaws, and dynamite to strike fear into his opponents.

As an assassin character, you can expect Stripe to hit hard, but not be able to take much damage in return, after  Warner Bros. applied a class-wide nerf in the big Aug. 2022 patch to keep assassins from having an unfair advantage.

During the MultiVersus Halloween event, players will earn Candy Corn just for completing matches, which they can then spend in the in-game shop for event-exclusive rewards. The highlights from this limited-time selection include Calico Cake (Jake the Dog character variant), a Mummy costume for Reindog, and a Jack-o’-Lantern sticker emote.

The other skins up for grabs are:

  • Black Lantern Superman character variant
  • Black Lantern Wonder Woman character variant
  • Frankenstein Iron Giant character variant
  • Vampire Tom and Jerry character variant
  • Witch Velma character variant
  • Count Scooby ringout
  • Twick or Tweet ringout
  • Boo! profile icon (purchase with Gold)
  • Diana Undead Wonder Woman profile icon (purchase with Gold)
  • The Darkness Grows Superman profile icon (purchase with Gold)
  • A Very Normal Pumpkin Patch banner
  • Full Moon Surprise banner
  • Ghoulish Delights banner
  • It Might Be Haunted banner

Morty Smith lays the smack down in this MultiVersus trailer

One half of Rick and Morty invades MultiVersus, proving that the platform fighter has a pretty strange roster.

After loads of pre-release hype, Morty Smith is finally available in MultiVersus. Proving once and for all that no dimension is safe from pickle jokes.

On Monday, Player First Games released an all-new trailer showcasing Morty’s move set in MultiVersus. Unlike many other characters on the roster, this cheeky grandson takes elements from the Bruiser class — yet is “closer to a mage,” according to game director Tony Huynh. Naturally, the infamous Plumbus device is part of Morty’s toolkit for ranged battles.

Check out the MultiVersus Morty debut trailer for yourself below. Still quite surreal to see Batman get kicked-off screen by one half of Rick and Morty.

Speaking of Rick, he’ll be playable in MultiVersus eventually too. There’s no exact date for Rick’s release, but it’ll be sometime in Season 1. Same goes for the likes of Black Adam and Stripe from Gremlins. Truly, nothing outside of Fortnite or Smash Bros. Ultimate has a multiverse this ridiculous.

MultiVersus has been quite a success story thus far. The platform fighter already attracted 20 million players in under a month. It probably helps that MultiVersus is free-to-play on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Easy access helps build a following fast, it seems.

MultiVersus surpasses 20 million players in less than a month

The free-to-play platform fighter from Warner Bros. is exceeding all expectations.

There was always potential in MultiVersus. After all, any game that lets Batman wrestle Shaggy from Scooby Doo will automatically draw attention. However, the free-to-play platform fighter is quickly exceeding all expectations.

On Wednesday, Warner Bros. made the announcement that MultiVersus has passed more than 20 million players worldwide across all platforms. The open beta period only began on July 26, 2022, meaning MultiVersus achieved this in under a month. Perhaps more impressive, the game doubled its previous record in only two weeks. Hear that? Everyone that was laughing about Arya Stark hip-tossing the cast of Adventure Time is currently chowing down on some crow.

[mm-video type=video id=01g9j20pmjxp3ekqpdhf playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01g9j20pmjxp3ekqpdhf/01g9j20pmjxp3ekqpdhf-cb710f6754f7a2b2f3f0b3da449f2dc1.jpg]

The content rollout for MultiVersus has been relatively solid thus far. Season 1 introduces us to Morty, who joins the roster on Aug. 23, 2022. Not to mention Black Adam and Stripe from Gremlins are dropping soon too. Rick Sanchez is coming soon as well! Isn’t the character lineup in this fun? Rumored additions like Johnny Bravo and Ted Lasso prove that the development team is having fun.

Remember, MultiVersus is free on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC with cross-progression and cross-play to boot. So the barrier of entry is quite low.

MultiVersus Patch 1.01 buffs every Assassin

The new patch also brings nerfs to Iron Giant and Velma.

The developers of MultiVersus will bring the next playable character for the platform brawler, Morty, into the game with an update on Aug. 23, 2022. Patch 1.01 also includes a number of balance adjustments to make the battles more fun and fair for everybody.

MultiVersus Patch 1.01: Buff for Assassins

The Assassin class should be fast and deadly but withstand little damage – this is practically an omnipresent design principle in video games. In MultiVersus, the developers have therefore given the characters of this category a passive attribute that increases damage taken by 14%. The update reduces this penalty to just 5% for all Assassins.

[mm-video type=video id=01g9j20pmjxp3ekqpdhf playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01g9j20pmjxp3ekqpdhf/01g9j20pmjxp3ekqpdhf-cb710f6754f7a2b2f3f0b3da449f2dc1.jpg]

The developers say that they are currently considering removing this passive completely. They view this as the first step in that direction, with the change acting as a test. “We don’t want to create an assassin-dominated meta,” they comment on the update.

Arya Stark, Finn the Human, and Harley Quinn will be the characters benefiting from this change.

MultiVersus Patch 1.01: Nerfs for Iron Giant and Velma

Iron Giant, who was still considered too ponderous at the beginning of the beta of MultiVersus, is currently a real terror. The developers, therefore, want to slow the robot rampage down a bit and have weakened some of Iron Giant’s attacks, giving them longer cooldowns, lowering their damage, or shrinking their range. Only the cannonball attack has become stronger: If you hit an enemy with it, it can be canceled, allowing you more control.

Velma is also penalized: her Education buff now reduces cooldowns by 50% instead of 75% over eight seconds.

Finn has received a buff on two attacks in addition to the reduced damage penalty for Assassins – compensating for previous debuffs to his backpack. The developer has also announced future buffs for Garnet and Taz in the full patch notes, which can be found here on the official site.

Black Adam and Stripe from Gremlins are seemingly heading to MultiVersus

The roster for MultiVersus keeps growing, with a superhero and gangly monster up next.

In only a few short weeks, MultiVersus became a break-out hit partially because the roster is full of playable characters that wouldn’t typically be in fighting games. It seems that a couple more weirdos are joining the fray soon too.

Over the weekend, numerous people have been spotting an Xbox dashboard ad revealing that Black Adam and Stripe from Gremlins are coming to MultiVersus. Everyone knew that there would be more DC superheroes thrown into the mix, but ugly little monsters from 1980s creature features? Nobody saw that coming.

It’s worth mentioning that Black Adam doesn’t appear to be based on the upcoming Dwayne Johnson film but rather a comic iteration of the character. Stripe looks exactly like the 1984 movie iteration, though. Check out the screencaps below to see both.

Neither of these characters has been announced for MultiVersus, nor were they on prior upcoming release lists. While developer Player First Games and publisher Warner Bros. haven’t made an announcement on social media, the official word should drop fairly soon. There wouldn’t be advertisements if it were some sort of hoax! Plus, I sincerely doubt any Photoshop wizards would dream up adding Stripe, of all things.

After some delay hubbub, Season 1 of MultiVersus got an official release date of Aug. 15, 2022. Morty is coming later this month as well.

MultiVersus Season 1 and Morty release date confirmed

It wasn’t a big delay after all.

It turns out MultiVersus Season 1’s delay won’t be that bad after all: The game’s developers have announced the new start date and Morty now has a release date too.

The success of MultiVersus’ open beta, which drew millions of players, has boosted interest in the free-to-play fighting game even further. The news that Season 1 and the official launch of the game would be delayed came as a nasty surprise to fans. But the developers from Player First Games have now dispelled any worries about possible problems: MultiVersus Season 1 is officially coming on Aug. 15, 2022, according to the game’s official Twitter account.

Since the delay turned out to be rather short, there don’t seem to be any major problems behind the scenes.

Morty release date in MultiVersus

At the same time, the developers have announced the release date for Morty. The cartoon character will appear in the game on Aug. 23, 2022. During the game’s first season, he will be joined by his on-screen counterpart, Rick, who is also coming as a playable character.

The first season of the platform brawler will bring a fresh Battle Pass to level up, and those who redeem the promo code for EVO 2022 will finally receive their promised rewards.

The developers pointed out that new content and game modes will come to MultiVersus drop by drop over the course of the season, and not in a single wave. More details and release dates for upcoming content will be announced later. Not ready to dive into Season 1 yet? MultiVersus passes the 10 million players milestone

It seems Batman fighting Shaggy and Arya Stark is a winning formula.

Practically nobody saw MultiVersus coming. Sure, there was always potential in the idea of Harley Quinn grappling with Bugs Bunny, but I dare you to find somebody that was certain it would be a smash-hit even before release.

According to Tracker.gg, a tool that accumulates statistical data on video games, MultiVersus allegedly has over 10 million registered accounts across all platforms (Thanks, PC Gamer). That staggering number comes only three weeks after the game began its open beta period and will undoubtedly shoot up once the final release is out. Most people in the fighting game community would have laughed at anyone floating numbers like this pre-release, it’s wild.

It’s hard to say when the 1.0 version of MultiVersus will release. Last week, Warner Bros. delayed Season 1, with no hints of when it’ll actually drop. The same goes for the arrival of Morty, who will be the 18th playable character. Director Tony Huynh recently made some passing comments about that situation.

[mm-video type=video id=01g9j20pmjxp3ekqpdhf playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01g9j20pmjxp3ekqpdhf/01g9j20pmjxp3ekqpdhf-cb710f6754f7a2b2f3f0b3da449f2dc1.jpg]

“Finished another tuning pass on Morty,” Huynh said on Twitter. “He has some really cool setups. Can’t wait to see what players do with his kit.”

Thus far, MultiVersus has a reasonably eclectic roster. That’s putting it lightly too. Again, you can literally pit Lebron James against Velma from Scooby Doo in this game. So its success is well earned.
