Michigan State basketball will enter the 2023-24 season with much higher expectations than this past year.

The Spartans are returning nearly everyone from a team that reached the Sweet 16 this past year and will be welcoming in a top three recruiting class as well. So that means it’s officially hype season for Michigan State basketball.

A big reason for all of the hype is the many media outlets that have released way-too-early preseason rankings for the 2023-24 season. The first game won’t tip off for another seven months, but let’s have some fun and see where the Spartans land in each of these super early rankings for next year:

Michigan State basketball is a fringe top five team entering next year in the eyes of college basketball analyst Andy Katz.

Katz — who works for the Big Ten Network and NCAA.com — released his initial “Power 36” rankings for the 2023-24 season, and he has Michigan State near the top. The Spartans come in at No. 6 on Katz’s rankings.

Michigan State was the highest-ranked team from the Big Ten at No. 6. Other teams from the conference that were listed are Purdue at No. 8, Ohio State at No. 17, Maryland at No. 23 and Northwestern at No. 28.

Gary Parrish of CBS isn’t as high on the Spartans compared to others in his field of work.

Michigan State has been a common top 10 team in the way-too-early rankings released for the 2023-24 season this week. However, Parrish doesn’t have them that high. He has the Spartans just outside the top 10 at No. 11.

Of the Big Ten, Parrish has the Spartans as his second-highest team behind only Purdue at No. 2. No other Big Ten teams were in his rankings.

Michigan State basketball will be battling it out for the Big Ten title next year, according to Seth Davis of The Athletic.

Davis has released his way-too-early rankings for the 2023-24 season and he’s high on the Spartans’ chances of winning the Big Ten next year. Davis has Michigan State at No. 6 in his rankings, which is only behind Purdue at No. 2 in the Big Ten.

Michigan State basketball is considered the favorite to win the Big Ten next year, according to Jeff Borzello of ESPN

Michigan State basketball is considered the favorite to win the Big Ten next year, according to Jeff Borzello of ESPN.

Borzello is one of many college basketball media professionals to recently release a way-too-eary rankings for the 2023-24 season and he like many others is very high on Michigan State. Borzello has the Spartans inside his top 10 at No. 6.

The only other Big Ten team to be listed in Borzello’s rankings was Purdue at No. 15.

Michigan State basketball will enter next season as one of the top 15 teams in the country, according to 247Sports.

It’s way-too-early rankings season in college basketball; numerous outlets are starting to release their listings of teams for the 2023-24 season. As expected, Michigan State is one of the teams that cracked 247Sports’ list published by Kevin Flaherty.

Michigan State comes in at No. 12 in 247Sports’ rankings. It is the second-highest Big Ten team behind only Purdue (No. 6). No other Big Ten teams made his top 25 rankings.

Mike DeCourcy of Sporting News has Michigan State basketball listed near the top of his way-too-early rankings for the 2022-23 season.

DeCourcy released his way-too-early rankings on Monday, which have Michigan State coming in at No. 15. The Spartans are the second-highest ranked Big Ten team behind only Michigan — who is ranked at No. 4.

Other Big Ten teams in DeCourcy’s rankings include Illinois (No. 16), Purdue (No. 21) and Ohio State (No. 23).
