Tom Izzo, Tre Holloman and Xavier Booker spoke to the media after a thrilling OT win over North Carolina

Michigan State basketball closed out their trip to Maui with a third place game victory over No. 12 North Carolina, defeating the Tar Heels in a 94-91 overtime thriller.

After the game Tom Izzo took the media stand with two of his players, Tre Holloman and Xavier Booker, both of whom had their best games of the 2024-25 campaign. Holloman finished with a career high 19 points, meanwhile Booker had 12 points and 7 rebounds while playing the final ten minutes of the game for MSU.

Michigan State closed out their trip to the Maui Invitational with a 2-1 record after defeating North Carolina in an overtime thriller in the third place game, 94-91. Tom Izzo showed why he is a hall of fame coach on Wednesday night, pushing the right buttons while making the right decisions throughout the whole game.

After the win, a massive one for building the 2024-25 season into a successful campaign, Tom Izzo spoke to Andy Katz about the game, and what he saw from his perspective.

Tre Holloman spoke to Andy Katz after his career high performance against UNC

Michigan State closed out their trip to the Maui Invitational with a 2-1 record after defeating North Carolina in an overtime thriller in the third place game, 94-91.

The Spartans were able to win, in large part, due to the play of their co-captain and junior guard Tre Holloman, who finished with a career high 19-points in the contest.

Holloman was the stable and steady force for the Spartans in the absence of Jase Richardson.

The Spartans picked up a huge win, that will go a long way come March, and Holloman talked about it with Andy Katz after the game.

Michigan State basketball closed the Maui Invitational in style. The Spartans closed out the third place game with a 94-91 overtime victory over the No. 12 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels.

The win did not come easy, with the Spartans squandering a late three possession lead, but the team persevered and ultimately got the huge early season victory.

An outstanding performance from the team top to bottom, the Spartans had six players finish with more than a dozen points on their way to victory.

Michigan State basketball saw their season come to an end on Saturday evening, dropping a Round of 32 NCAA Tournament game to North Carolina, 85-69.

MSU’s season comes to an end at the hands of No. 1 seeded North Carolina

That is a wrap on the 2023-24 season as the Spartans have dropped a Round of 32 NCAA Tournament game against North Carolina, 85-69.

The Spartans opened the game hot, and looked like they were a team that was ready to take down a 1-seed, going up by as many as 12 in the first half. It all came to screeching halt as the first half closed.

North Carolina went on a 26-5 run to end the first half to turn a 26-14 lead into a 40-31 halftime deficit.

The Spartans recovered early in the second half, cutting the deficit to 2, at 48-46, but again was met by another UNC run, putting the final daggers into the MSU season.

Tyson Walker finished the game with 24 points, while Malik Hall added 17 points and 9 rebounds and Jaden Akins had 11 points. A.J. Hoggard finished with 3 points on 1-of-10 shooting.
