The Spartans let a 16-point second half lead slip away but were able to hold one for a big-time victory over Villanova, 73-71, on Friday night. The Wildcats had a chance to win the game in the final seconds but their buzzer-beater fell short to clinch the Michigan State win.

Michigan State basketball will host Villanova as part of the Gavitt Games in a non-conference matchup on Friday, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The Spartans enter this Big Ten-Big East battle looking to build off Tuesday night’s thrilling double-overtime win over Kentucky. Michigan State used late rallies in both regulation and the first overtime before taking control in the second overtime for the victory.

Michigan State is 2-1 on the season with the win over Kentucky. Villanova is also 2-1 on the year but hasn’t looked particularly as impressive as the Spartans.

It’s official — Michigan State will play Villanova as part of the 2022 Gavitt Games.

The Spartans officially announced they’ll host the Wildcats on Nov. 18 in this year’s edition of the Gavitt Games — which pits the Big Ten against the Big East. College basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported this big-time matchup earlier in the week but now it is official.

Michigan State is 1-3 all-time against Villanova, and this will be the first matchup between the Spartans and Wildcats in 20 years.

REPORT: Michigan State basketball to host Villanova in 2022 Gavitt Games

Add another big-time matchup to the Spartans’ 2022 basketball schedule

It appears Michigan State will be adding another big-time opponent to their 2022-23 basketball schedule.

The Spartans will reportedly host Villanova as part of the 2022 Gavitt Games. College basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported the news on Monday evening.

The date and time of the game have yet to be announced or reported. Generally, the Gavitt Games matchups are held in either November or December so it would be anticipated that this will be another early-season test for the Spartans.

Michigan State has only played Villanova four times in program history. This will be the first matchup between the Spartans and Wildcats in 20 years.

This will be yet another tough matchup for the Spartans on their 2022-23 schedule. The official schedule has yet to be released but based on reports and previously announced games Michigan State is set to play Gonzaga, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Villanova and three games in the PK85 event this year. That is an extremely tough slate but should at least be fun for fans and tell us a lot about this team early in the season.
