Report: MSU-Minnesota unlikely to be rescheduled due to Rutgers not adjusting schedule

It appears Rutgers will stand in the way of Michigan State rescheduling their previously postponed matchup with Minnesota

Rutgers will not adjust its schedule, meaning it’s unlikely Michigan State will be able to make up its postponed game with Minnesota.

Last week’s matchup between Michigan State and Minnesota was postponed after the shooting on the Michigan State campus. There was hope the game could be rescheduled for next week if Rutgers was willing to move its matchup with Minnesota from Thursday to Tuesday. However, reports indicate it will not do so.

Here’s what Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press heard on the reasoning for why Rutgers wouldn’t adjust its schedule:

So what does this mean for Michigan State? Honestly, not rescheduling the game might have no impact to the Spartans. A win over Minnesota will not do much for its NCAA Tournament resume, and if the Spartans win out they should still earn the double-bye in the Big Ten Tournament. So, it really doesn’t have much of an impact other than fans losing an opportunity to watch Michigan State on the court.

No official word has been made from the Big Ten or Michigan State so there’s still a chance we’ll see this matchup between the Spartans and Golden Gophers played. But for now, it sounds very unlikely.

Tom Izzo provides update on possible rescheduling of postponed MSU-Minnesota game

Tom Izzo details the latest he’s heard on the potential of MSU rescheduling their postponed game with Minnesota

Nothing is certain at this point, but there is a potential path for Michigan State to reschedule its postponed game with Minnesota.

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo met with the media on Monday, and provided an update. The Golden Gophers were originally scheduled to come to the Breslin Center last Wednesday, but the game was postponed in the wake of last Monday’s on-campus shooting.

According to Matt Charboneau of The Detroit News, Izzo said there is still no clarity on rescheduling, but the best-case scenario he’s heard is that game could be made up next Thursday (March 2). In order for this to occur, however, Minnesota would have move its scheduled game with Rutgers to Tuesday of that week.

Below is further context on the potential rescheduling of this matchup from Charboneau and Graham Couch of the Lansing State Journal:
