Michigan State basketball opened its trip to Spain with a thrilling victory over the Madrid All-Stars on Thursday

Michigan State basketball opened its trip to Spain with a thrilling victory over the Madrid All-Stars.

The Spartans led most of the game but needed strong play from point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. in the final minutes to hold off a comeback attempt by the Madrid All-Stars. The final score was 94-87.

Michigan State led most of the first half, thanks to strong play from Xavier Booker. He hit several 3-point shots to lead the Spartans offensively in the opening frame, helping Michigan State hold a 49-40 advantage at the break.

The Madrid All-Stars responded in the third quarter, outscoring the Spartans by double-digits in the frame to take a 69-67 lead into the final quarter.

Michigan State didn’t let the Madrid All-Stars lead last for long in the fourth quarter. The Spartans quickly regained the lead and held on late for the victory.

Michigan State will play two more exhibition games in Spain over the next week. Next up is a matchup in Valencia on Sunday.
