Watch MSU basketball G Jase Richardson talk strong start, preview Oakland

Watch Michigan State guard Jase Richardson preview the Spartans’ upcoming matchup against Oakland

Michigan State basketball is off to one of its best and most promising starts to the season in the last few years.

Michigan State is 8-2 on the young season, and more notably off to a 2-0 start in conference play after a pair of blowout wins last week. The Spartans strong start was only furthered this past week when they jumped into the Associated Press (AP) Top 25 for the first time in over a calendar year.

The Spartans were off this week but return to action next week with a non-conference battle against in-state foe Oakland. This year’s annual matchup between the Spartans and Grizzlies will take place in Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Tuesday night.

Ahead of next week’s game with Oakland, Michigan State guard Jase Richardson met with the local media to preview the matchup. Check out what he had to say in the video below.

MSU G Jase Richardson set to return at Minnesota on Wednesday

Michigan State basketball is set to get back one of its top scorers for Wednesday’s Big Ten opener against Minnesota

Michigan State basketball is set to get back one of its top scorers for Wednesday’s Big Ten opener against Minnesota.

Spartans freshman guard Jase Richardson is “good to go” for Wednesday’s road game against Minnesota. Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press reported the notable injury news on Monday evening.

Richardson sat out the final game of the Maui Invitational due to concussion protocol. Michigan State was able to win that game against North Carolina despite Richardson being out.

Through seven games this year, Richardson is averaging 10.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2 assists per game. He ranks third on the Spartans in scoring.

Tipoff from Minnesota is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

Tom Izzo provides injury update on Jase Richardson

It sounds like Michigan State guard Jase Richardson will be ready to go in the Spartans’ next game

It appears Michigan State basketball will have star freshman Jase Richardson in the lineup when they next take the court.

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo met with the media on Thursday and stated that Richardson was limited in practice but is expected to be ready to play when the Spartans play Colorado on Monday in the Maui Invitational. Richardson left Tuesday night’s win over Samford late in the game with an ankle injury.

Richardson is averaging 8.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game so far this season in a reserve role. He is a former four-star prospect and has been a pleasant surprise in how much of an impact he’s already having for Michigan State.

The Spartans will play three games in three days next week as part of the Maui Invitational. Michigan State opens up the tournament in a game against Colorado on Monday at 5 p.m. ET.

Michigan State basketball opened up the regular season with a convincing victory over Monmouth on Monday.

The Spartans led the entire way in route to the 81-57 victory over the Hawks. Monmouth cut the Spartans’ lead to six points early into the second half, but from that point Michigan State built a lead that was comfortable until the final whistle.

Michigan State was led in scoring by guard Jaden Akins, who had a career-high tying 23 points night. Freshman Jase Richardson also reached double-digits with 10 points in his first career game as a Spartan.
