Check out some of the best photos from the Spartans’ blowout loss vs. Indiana on Saturday

Michigan State football looked poised for a major upset in the first quarter, but things went south from the second quarter forward.

Indiana scored 47 consecutive points to beat Michigan State, 47-10, on Saturday.

Michigan State jumped out to a quick start and built a 10-0 advantage in the first quarter. However, Indiana dominated in the second quarter with three touchdown drives to carry a 21-10 lead into halftime.

Things didn’t get any better for the Spartans in the second half, with Indiana scoring the next 26 points to top the Spartans in convincing fashion. To make matters worse, Michigan State also lost starting quarterback Aidan Chiles to an injury in the third quarter.

With the loss, Michigan State drops to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in Big Ten play.

MSU Football gets blown out by Indiana on Saturday

A promising start for the Spartans was squashed by the undefeated Hoosiers from the second quarter forward

Michigan State’s fast start sizzled away in a blowout loss against Indiana on Saturday afternoon from Spartan Stadium.

Michigan State dominated the first quarter to build a double-digit lead, but Indiana took control from the second quarter on, scoring 47 consecutive points to earn the 47-10 win.

Even more concerning for the Spartans was starting quarterback Aidan Chiles leaving the game in the third quarter with an injury. He went straight to the locker room following the injury and eventually returned to the sideline, but never came back into the game. At the time of this post, the severity or nature of his injury is unclear.

Michigan State got off to a great start, jumping out to an early 10-0 lead after their first two drives. The Spartans’ touchdown came on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Aidan Chiles to Nick Marsh.

However, things went downhill from there with Indiana dominating the second quarter. The Hoosiers scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to carry a 21-10 lead into the break.

Indiana would pour it on in the second half, scoring another 26 points to run away with the game.

Michigan State never was able to get the ground game going, finishing the game with -24 rushing yards in the loss. Michigan State also had a pair of costly first-half turnovers that helped fuel the beginning of the huge Indiana run.

With the loss, Michigan State drops to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in Big Ten play. The Spartans have dropped two straight games, with Saturday’s loss against the Hoosiers being the worst of the year for Michigan State.

Michigan State football will be off next week on a bye and return to action in on November 16 at Illinois. The kickoff time for that game will be announced in the coming days.

Michigan State vs. Indiana predictions, picks, odds

Michigan State 31, Indiana 27: No team has held Indiana under 31 points this year, but I think that streak comes to an end this week thanks to a few key defensive stops from the Spartans. Combine that by another consistent performance from Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles, and I think the Spartans pull the upset.

247Sports provides update on IU starting QB Kurtis Rourke ahead of MSU game

The Spartans will be getting the best from Indiana this week

The Spartans will be getting the best from Indiana this week.

Indiana starting quarterback Kurtis Rourke continues to be on pace to play this week at Michigan State, according to Brandon Marcello of 247Sports. Marcello reported that as of Wednesday night, Rourke “is on track to start Saturday at Michigan State.”

Earlier this week, Pete Thamel of ESPN reported a similar status on Rourke and it sounds like that hasn’t changed throughout the first few days of practice this week.

In seven games this year, Rourke has thrown for nearly 2,000 yards and 15 touchdowns compared to three interceptions. He transferred to Indiana from Ohio this past offseason and is a huge reason the Hoosiers are 8-0.

Kickoff between the Spartans and Hoosiers is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will be available to watch via Peacock streaming.
