MSU basketball remains safely in ESPN’s updated NCAA Tournament projection

MSU remains in a good spot to reach the NCAA Tournament once again this season

Michigan State remains in a good spot to reach the NCAA Tournament once again this season.

The Spartans suffered a disappointing loss to Iowa earlier this week, but that defeat didn’t result in Michigan State dropping in ESPN’s updated batch of “Bracketology.” Joe Lunardi of ESPN still has Michigan State as a No. 7 seed in his updated bracket projection that was released on Friday.

Michigan State is one of only six teams from the Big Ten in Lunardi’s projected field of 68.

Michigan State remains safely in the field of 68 in the eyes of ESPN’s Joe Lunardi — but they did slip a seed line in his latest bracket projection.

Lunardi has slid the Spartans down to a No. 9 seed in his most recent NCAA Tournament bracket projection released on Tuesday. The Spartans would face No. 8 seed Virginia if the committee followed Lunardi’s bracket projection.

Michigan State is one of only six teams from the Big Ten. No other teams from the league appear to be in the bubble picture at this time either.

MSU basketball moves up in latest update of ESPN bracketology

The Spartans have moved up in ESPN’s latest batch of bracketology that was released on Friday

The Spartans have moved up in ESPN’s latest bracketology released on Friday.

Michigan State picked up a less-than-impressive victory over Minnesota on Thursday night to improve to 11-7 overall and 3-4 in Big Ten play this year. While the win wasn’t anything special, it did helped boost the Spartans from a No. 9 seed to a No. 8 seed in Joe Lunardi’s updated NCAA Tournament bracket projection.

In Lunardi’s most recent update, the Spartans face a No. 9 seed in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Should they win that figurative matchup, the Spartans would most likely play No. 1 seed Kansas in the second round.

Six Big Ten teams were listed in Lunardi’s updated bracket projection. Check out the complete bracket by clicking on the tweet below:

ESPN Bracketology: MSU basketball listed as final team in field

If the season ended today, Michigan State basketball would be in the NCAA Tournament by the skin of their teeth

If the season ended today, Michigan State basketball would be in the NCAA Tournament by the skin of their teeth, according to Joe Lunardi of ESPN.

In one week’s time, Michigan State basketball has played its way back into the NCAA Tournament field in the eye of Lunardi. Last week, Michigan State wasn’t even in the mix for his updated bracketology but on Tuesday, Michigan State is the final team in his field.

The Spartans have picked up a pair of dominant wins in the past few days, including a blowout of previously undefeated Baylor. That win plus Monday’s victory over Oakland has pushed the Spartans back into the field of 68.

MSU basketball listed in ‘Last Four In’ of updated ESPN Bracketology

Michigan State basketball has gone from a projected No. 1 seed to a bubble squad in a month

Michigan State basketball has gone from a projected No. 1 seed to a bubble squad in a month.

The first month of the Michigan State basketball season has not gone as planned with the Spartans struggling thus far. The Spartans are 4-4 overall and have lost all four of their matchups against ranked foes — including a double-digit home loss to Wisconsin earlier this week.

The latest loss has plummeted the Spartans to one of the last four teams in the field of 68 in ESPN’s updated Bracketology. Michigan State opened the season as one of the projected No. 1 seeds.

Where Michigan State currently sits in ESPN’s updated batch of Bracketology shouldn’t come as any surprise, but does speak volumes about how bad things have gone so far. Hopefully, the Spartans can start to get things back on track on Sunday in a road game at Nebraska.
