Michigan State football is officially back.

The Spartans opened up fall camp on Tuesday, and of course, there is going to be a ton of excitement from the fanbase. Especially when it comes to new incoming transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles.

A number of media members were in attendance for the opening practice and some were able to capture video of Chiles throwing the ball during some drills. In the videos, you can already see the arm strength and zip Chiles puts on the ball when it’s released from his hand.

New Spartans starting quarterback Aidan Chiles is considered one of the best in the Big Ten.

College Football Report put out a rankings list of the top Big Ten quarterbacks entering next season, and Chiles was in the upper third of the league. Chiles came in at No. 6 on the list — which is notable since only Miller Moss of USC was the only first-time starter ahead of him on this list.

Chiles transferred to Michigan State from Oregon State to follow new head coach Jonathan Smith. Chiles played in nine games last year as a true freshman, throwing for 309 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 79 yards and three touchdowns.

At the top of the list was Dillon Gabriel of Oregon, followed by Will Howard of Ohio State and Drew Allar of Penn State. Check out the complete rankings from College Football Report below:

Chiles — who was ranked as the No. 2 transfer quarterback by 247Sports this year — is reportedly the clear-cut frontrunner to win the starting role this year. New head coach Jonathan Smith met with the media on Monday, and said it would be an “upset” if Chiles wasn’t starting for the Spartans this fall.

Chiles comes to Michigan State with Smith from Oregon State. Chiles is a former four-star and top 100 prospect and played one season for Smith’s Beavers before following him to Michigan State this offseason.

Michigan State will be welcoming in one of the top transfer quarterbacks this season, according to 247Sports.

New Spartans quarterback Aidan Chiles is ranked as the No. 2 transfer quarterback in the 2024 cycle, according to 247Sports. He is only ranked behind Julian Sayin who transferred from Alabama to Ohio State after Nick Sabin retired.

Chiles comes to Michigan State after one season at Oregon State, following new Spartans head coach Jonathan Smith. Chiles appeared in nine games as a true freshman at Oregon State — throwing for more than 300 yards and four touchdowns, and running for nearly 100 yards and three touchdowns.

The Spartans picked up a massive quarterback transfer from the portal on Thursday when former Oregon State Beaver Aidan Chiles committed to Michigan State. Chiles will be following his former head coach at Oregon State — Jonathan Smith — to East Lansing, Mich.

Chiles is a former four-star, top-100 recruit in the 2023 class and was impressive in his small sample-size appearances this past year as a true freshman. He was considered the top quarterback prospect in the transfer portal by 247Sports this year.
