Is the NBA’s 2025 Most Improved Player Award (MIP) on the table for the French forward?

San Antonio Spurs second-year star forward Victor Wembanyama wasted no time at all racking up accolades on arriving in the NBA. Going from a gangly rookie struggling with NBA-level defense to a legitimate Defensive Player of the Year candidate in just one season, we have learned he is no joke.

An All-Defensive First Team member and the league’s 2024 Rookie of the Year by a landslide (and the first-ever combination of such awards won in a first season), all we can do now is guess what else he is capable of. Is the NBA’s 2025 Most Improved Player Award (MIP) on the table for the French forward as well?

The host of the “Locked On Spurs” podcast, Jeff Garcia, recently took some time on his show to sit down with Jack Thompson, formerly with San Antonio Sports Star, to talk it over.

Jaylen Brown finishes sixth in Most Improved Player voting

Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown finished sixth in Most Improved Player voting for the 2020-21 season.

Despite a disappointing end to his season due to injury, Jaylen Brown showed great improvement and leaps this season, which didn’t go unnoticed across the league.

Jaylen Brown finished sixth in the 2020-21 Kia NBA Most Improved Player Award voting, in which New York Knicks All-Star Julius Randle won the award, receiving 98 of 100 first-place votes.

Brown received one second-place vote and seven third-place votes from sportswriters and broadcasters across the league.

In 58 games this season, Brown averaged 24.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.6 blocks, all career-highs but rebounds. Brown also shot career-high’s across the board, shooting 48.4% from the field, 39.7% from three, and 76.4 from the free throw line.

Brown earned his first All-Star appearance this season while also scoring a career-high 42 points on December 30 against the Memphis Grizzlies before matching that total a month later against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The All-Star was lost for the season after a torn ligament in his left wrist forced season-ending surgery.
