Monster Hunter Wilds roars onto the scene in 2025

Monster Hunter World 2 is real, except it’s called Monster Hunter Wilds, and it’s looking brilliant – despite not launching until 2025

Monster Hunter World 2 is real, except it’s called Monster Hunter Wilds, and it’s looking brilliant. Capcom debuted Monster Hunter Wild at The Game Awards 2023 and announced that their new monster game is planned for launch in 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Capcom’s world premiere trailer didn’t show us much about what to expect, but there were a handful of exciting details. For one thing, the world looks more lived in, with herds of monsters roaming around, doing their own thing. The Wirebug is gone, but in its place, you get a Chocobo-looking monster that lets you race across the plains and fly through the air.

Monster Hunter Wilds is Capcom’s first foray back into open-world games after taking a more restrained approach in Monster Hunter Rise for the Switch. It comes after several years of critical and commercial hits, including Monster Hunter Rise, Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4 remake, and most recently, Street Fighter 6. Monster Hunter and Resident Evil in particular helped Capcom achieve record-breaking revenue earlier in 2023.

2024 might be the year of Dragon’s Dogma 2, but Capcom promised more Monster Hunter Wilds info in summer 2024.

Monster Hunter and Resident Evil 4 gave Capcom record-breaking sales

Capcom reported a strong year of sales, led by Monster Hunter and Resident Evil 4, even though the horror game only had one week of sales

Capcom reported a record-breaking year of sales, led by Monster Hunter Rise and Resident Evil 4 remake (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz). The publisher reported net sales equal to approximately $940, which is a 14 percent increase from the previous year, and even recorded sizeable increases in sales of older games.

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak led the charge with 5.45 million copies sold, helped no doubt by the RPG expansion’s release on several platforms following a period of Switch and PC exclusivity. The base Monster Hunter Rise, which originally released in 2021, sold an additional 3.7 million copies.

Resident Evil 4 remake sold 3.75 million copies, which is particularly impressive considering the horror game launched in the last week of Capcom’s fiscal year. Considering how it shattered Steam concurrent player records and sales for the series, though, perhaps such strong sales aren’t too surprising.

Six games reached or surpassed the million-selling mark, and Resident Evil 2 remake and Resident Evil 3 remake even saw increases in their sales. In total, Capcom said it sold 41.7 million games in its last fiscal year.

The publisher expects fewer unit sales in the current fiscal year, but an increase in dollar sales boosted in part by forecasted growth in its mobile content. Meanwhile, Capcom is gearing up for Street Fighter 6, which launches on June 2, 2023, for current-gen platforms and PC.

Monster Hunter Rise is coming to PS5 and Game Pass in 2023

Monster Hunter Rise is finally launching on PS5 and Xbox, nearly two years after Capcom’s RPG landed on Switch

Monster Hunter Rise is finally Wirebug-swinging its way to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, including Game Pass for console and PC, on Jan. 23, 2023, nearly two years after Capcom released the RPG on Nintendo Switch. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can also play Rise anywhere via cloud gaming.

This marks the first time a Monster Hunter game will be available across all current platforms, including PC via Steam.

Rise will launch with all content up to Version 10, which includes several monsters that were unavailable when the game first released and the proper ending for single-player mode. Sunbreak, Rise’s first major, paid expansion, will be available on PlayStation and Xbox platforms at a later date, sometime in spring 2023.

On Xbox Series X and PS5, you can choose between 4K visuals and up to 60fps or drop the resolution down to 1080p and push the frame rate up to 120fps. The PS5 version also includes support for the DualSense’s adaptive triggers, though whether this is for all weapons or just a few is slightly unclear. Capcom’s rundown only mentioned feedback for Sword and Shield users and Gun-related weapons.

Bear in mind that if you’re playing on PS5 and want to take part in multiplayer, you’ll need a PS Plus subscription of some kind.

The next free Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak update is out now

The latest Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak update brings with it three new Elder Dragons, Anomaly Investigations, and more

The new Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak update, Title Update 3, is live now on Nintendo Switch and PC, bringing with it a range of new items and monsters, and letting you take NPC companions on every Master Rank quest at last. Headlining the new monsters is the Risen Elder Dragon known as Chaotic Gore Magala, a variant of Monster Hunter 4’s flagship monster with a very nasty temper indeed.

Chaotic Gore Magala are those stuck between their standard form and Shagaru Magala form, which means they can use attacks unique to both species. Risen Teostra and Risen Kushala Daora join this fiend, both with new attacks they resort to when in an angered state. You need to reach Master Rank 120 to fight Kushala Deora and MR 140 to face off against Teostra.

If these or any Master Rank quests are giving you trouble, you don’t have to worry about matching with another player to get started.

You can now invite your NPC Follower companions along with you for nearly every Master Rank quest, including the new Anomaly Quests. Just make sure to spend time with your Followers and complete their quests to help bring out their full potential.

Title Update 3’s new A7 Anomaly Quests pit you against Magnamalo, Bazelgeuse, and Espinas for a chance to acquire sturdy materials used to craft weapons and armor at the highest level. Speaking of level, the new update raises the max item level to 200.

Capcom still has more planned for the hit RPG in the coming months. A fourth Title Update is planned for winter 2023, and Title Update 5 will release in spring 2023. If that seems like too long to wait, check out the upcoming Wild Hearts from Koei Tecmo for a different spin on the monster-hunting genre.

Monster Hunter Rise: All new monsters in Sunbreak

Every new monster added to Monster Hunter Rise in the Sunbreak DLC expansion.

If you’re a dedicated hunter, then you will already be fully aware of how long it will take you to extract everything you want from Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. There are two new maps with new Sub-Camps, hidden armor sets attached to items like the Large Armored Bream, so many weapons, and, of course, a lot of monsters to fight against.

The monsters are the main draw of any Monster Hunter game, and Sunbreak has added brand new monsters, in addition to complete remixes of monsters you’re already familiar with. The Bishaten? How about a mean orange version. Almudron? He could use some lava. You get the picture. Many of these monsters even earn new moves in addition to the fancy elemental powers and effects.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak has shipped more than 2 million units

The expansion proves that Capcom’s biggest series shows no signs of slowing down.

It wasn’t all that long ago that Monster Hunter may as well have been a niche series outside of Japan. However, the sales numbers for Capcom’s seminal action RPG prove it’s a global hit.

On Tuesday, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak has shipped 2 million units worldwide between the Nintendo Switch and PC versions. Apparently, the recent demo helped tremendously.

“Capcom released a demo version prior to launch, garnering praise and attention for the title, which resulted in shipments of over 2 million units globally,” Capcom said in a press release. “The company will continue to leverage its digital strategy going forward, aiming to maximize unit sales with ongoing promotions, including the continued release of free additional content and pricing strategies.”

The same release notes that Monster Hunter Rise has sold more than 10 million units, meaning approximately 20 percent of players bought Sunbreak. Those figures are doubly impressive when you factor in that the game surpassed 9.2 million units sold last month. Incredibly Monster Hunter: World, which came out in January 2018, is Capcom’s most popular title ever, with 21 million units shipped. It turns out people indeed love hunting those monstrous beasts.

Many consider Monster Hunter Rise as the best entry in the series. It can be daunting, though, which is why GLHF has several guides, including farming techniques, equipping switch skills, and how to simply start Sunbreak.
