One of the game’s newest additions is a tribute to a Baltimore superfan.

The Baltimore Ravens posted photos to their social media accounts of the end zones at M&T Bank Stadium as shown in the game. The end zone that spelled out “BALTIMORE” had “M” and “O” in gold while the rest of the letters were white, paying tribute to Mo Gaba.

The Ravens have painted the letters “M” and “O” in their end zone during the 2020 and 2021 season to pay tribute to the superfan. Gaba, 14, passed away in 2020 after a long battle with cancer. He was known for his infectious laugh and positive attitude, becoming a staple in the Baltimore sports community. He was beloved by many, and left a shining legacy behind.

Mo Gaba made a profound impact on the lives of Ravens and Orioles fans everywhere. Now, as his story has grown and his legacy has been shared, the rest of the country has fallen in love with him as well.

A collaboration between Ravens Productions and NFL Network titled “The Gift of Gaba” has been nominated for a national Sports Emmy Award in the outstanding long feature category. The 14-minute story on how Gaba touched the hearts of so many in the Baltimore area highlights how much of a joy the 14-year old was to talk to and be around, and the never ending positivity that he shared with the world. On a conference call with reporters in 2020, head coach John Harbaugh recalled fond memories of his time with the super-fan, as well as the lessons that he was taught by what Gaba went through.

“Man, I was on cloud nine just soaring in a conversation with this 14-year-old, young guy.”

“To recognize what he dealt with every day, with the challenges that he had with his health, and to see that his spirit soared while his health failed him — that was a lesson for me. To me, it was a gift.”

Gaba passed away on July 28th, 2020 after his fourth bout with cancer. His joy, positivity, and smile will live on forever, and will certainly never be forgotten. His legacy has a place not only in Baltimore, but around the world.

The legacy of Mo Gaba, the Baltimore Ravens superfan who died earlier this year after battling cancer throughout his life, will be remembered near the team’s stadium.

On Wednesday, a three-block stretch near M&T Bank Stadium was dedicated to the memory of Gaba, who died in July at the age of 14.

Gaba became the first person to announce an NFL draft pick in Braille in 2019 when he revealed the Ravens’ fifth-round selection of offensive lineman Ben Powers. Everywhere Gaba went, he made friends with his infections laugh and upbeat personality, displaying tremendous courage in his fight against cancer.

Before this year’s season-opener against the Cleveland Browns, the Ravens honored Gaba with a “Mo’s Rows” section at the stadium featuring cardboard cutouts of Gaba. His mother, Sonsy, helped paint “BaltimMOre” in one of the end zones, with “MO” in capital letters.

The Baltimore Orioles delivered big time Tuesday. They put superfan Mo Gaba into the team’s Hall of Fame.

Gaba, 14, has been blind since he was 9 months old because of the first of several bouts with cancer.

Trey Mancini, who was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in March, was among the attendees at Gaba’s graduation from Lindale Middle School in June. He credits an All-Star break spent with Gaba for helping him shake a first-half slump in 2018, propelling him into a 2019 season that earned him Most Valuable Oriole honors. Gaba surprised Mancini by attending the award ceremony.

 

Gaba is beloved by all in Baltimore, especially the sports teams he follows with a passion unlike many others.
