Overview

Mitchell Tinsley wasn’t a highly confident player in high school. However, he brings plenty of experience from his success at Western Kentucky.

Tinsley spent two years at Western Kentucky, where he finished fifth in the nation in 2021 with 1,402 receiving yards. That’s not all. Tinsley also finished fifth and receiving touchdowns with 14.

Penn State will have some big shoes to fill with the departure of Jahan Dotson to the draft. However, Parker Washington could be in for an impressive year. With Tinsley playing alongside him, the Nittany Lions for a productive season next year in the passing game.

Tinsley was proven to be a reliable and productive receiver at Western Kentucky. He is a major addition to Penn State and puts himself in a nice position to boost his draft stock

Penn State is in good hands with Washington and Tinsley taking over. James Franklin and the rest of this coaching staff have kept themselves busy so far this offseason. Tinsley is a big addition to Penn State and will have an immediate impact on their offense.

Penn State head coach James Franklin got a nice little present under the Christmas tree this holiday season courtesy of the transfer portal. On the night before Christmas, Western Kentucky wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley announced his commitment to Penn State with a message posted to his Instagram account.

Tinsley was the second-leading receiver in Conference USA during the 2021 season with 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns. Only his teammate, Jerreth Sterns, had better numbers in receiving yards and touchdowns as the Hilltoppers had a dynamic passing game. Tinsley averaged 100.1 receiving yards per game through 14 games in the 2021 season, including the Conference USA championship game and Boca Raton Bowl.

Tinsley had 173 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the Conference USA Championship Game against UTSA, and 103 yards and two touchdowns against Appalachian State in the bowl game. Earlier in the 2021 season, Tinsley had seven catches for 127 yards against Michigan State.

Tinsley should be able to step right into a key role in the Penn State offense in 2022. With the expected departure of Jahan Dotson to the NFL, Penn State will be able to slide Tinsley right into a passing game that returns Sean Clifford at quarterback and will include Parker Washington as a go-to receiver option. Tinsley should be a key component to the offensive plans for coordinator Mike Yurcich.

These four transferring players could interest the Gators

Billy Napier and his staff are poised to strike in the transfer portal.

Thanks to the NCAA’s decision to lift the waiting period once imposed on transferring players, the transfer portal has blossomed as one of the most important tools in college football team building. It is an avenue that, while derided by some of the old heads of the sport, is quickly becoming vital to almost any program that wants to remain competitive.

The Gators’ coaching change has understandably resulted in considerable roster attrition as players have turned to the portal to find a new team now that the scheme and situation they were recruited into no longer exists. Most notable among those outgoing players are edge defender Khris Bogle, quarterback Emory Jones, wide receiver Jacob Copeland, and linebacker Mohamoud Diabate.

Two can play that game, though. Coach Billy Napier and his staff are poised to strike in the transfer portal, not only because their arrival and successes infuse new life into the program, but also because the draft and outgoing players will leave the team starved for experienced starters. In light of those facts, here are some players who may interest the Gators in the early transfer portal action.
